Pleasantly surprised by the espresso coffee. Today's bean was Colombian Ethiopian blend. Notes of chocolate and hints of blueberry. Had a long lack and they tailed it to my strength level.

Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Haven has a great nautical vibe and an open air shop that's casual, comfortable, and maybe surprisingly would be a great place to get some work done. The service is top notch, and my coffee and sandwich came out quickly. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $6.00 AUD for a pressed ham and cheese croissant sandwich is an absolute steal, and $4.00 AUD for Haven's flagship Milk Coffee was equally cheap. Great value. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Everything here at Haven was good. The Milk Coffee didn't particularly stand out to be honest given it was pitched as a flagship menu item, bu the pressed croissant sandwich was something I hadn't had before and was great as far as breakfast sandwiches go. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? Absolutely. Star.

My golly, the stracciatella, chilli & hazelnut toast is to die for!!! You can add more to it such as heirloom cherry tomatoes, avocados, greens; garlic roasted field mushrooms, pork sausage, eggs or smoked ocean trout. I opted for scrambled eggs and it was a breakfast for champions NGL. Soooo good! Paired with the orange blossom matcha milk, I'm in heaven! I'm not really a citrusy kinda girl but that combo was divine. I needed more caffeine though for my long day ahead so I got a large mocha-- just the buzz I needed. The vibe is very aesthetic, industrial chic with high ceilings. Love the tables as well as the pitchers that look like Aesop bottles haha. I was really torn between the shokupan yuzu French toast and stracciatella, chilli and hazelnut toast but I'm glad I went with savory. Absolutely what I needed for today's adventures. Service was amazing. I was seated immediately but I came 15 mins after they opened so that's probably why. I'm so happy I added PCP to my Sydney itinerary.

I did just find it by wandering around the streets, and I did end up getting a pot of tea that I was really wanting to grab, but it wasn't really one of the best that I have had. Who needs old school hip hop or indie tunes drowning out your conversations when you have a soundtrack like that. My salmon roll was so much more than I expected - perfectly cooked salmon fillet, fork tender but with enough structure to hold its own in a squid in roll with papaya slaw and chilli jam. Perfectly balanced and gloriously messy. The accompanying chips were perhaps a bit over-salted but the unctuous, almost El Jannah level garlicky aioli kept me coming back for more. My colleagues declared the deconstructed pork belly Bahn Mi their new favourite dish in all of Sydney, no small feat given we work in the heart of Surry Hills. It's a sight for the eyes/Instagram feed, all crusty baguette and cucumber rose and thick juicy pork belly fingers and tiny jars and quenelles of this and that on a wooden board. And the taste, they tell me, is just uhhhhnnnff! All this Vietnamese cafe magic is housed in a shoebox of a shop and served by sweet and efficient staff. There really isn't that much space, just a few tables inside and a tiny courtyard out and vertical garden back. Let's hope SMH or Time Out don't pick up on this place any time soon, I want it allll for myself.

From darling harbor where I was staying it's a short walk. The red velvet pancakes are unique, delicious and worth the trip on their own. Both my wife and my daughter had that. My other family had the red velvet waffle, simple scrambled eggs and I had the crab Benedict. Everyone was happy with the food. On the way out I got a couple falafel balls, I wanted to try them. These guys are Egyptian and the falafel was full of flavor. I was curious, I'm a falafel lover and they are not all created equal. Great falafel here. Coffee and other drinks were all good. Can't wait to go back.

It's a quick hop on and off. The food was amazing! It was a quiet cafe. There was a lot of foot traffic of people stopping in and out to get coffee. They have such a beautiful array of dessert! Wish I photographed it but was too in the moment with my food! I ordered a red velvet latte and a big English breakfast and my partner ordered the red velvet pancakes! We got our orders and man, my eyes were hungrier than I actually was. Everything was awesome! Didn't finish everything of course but I tried to. We then came a separate occasion after to get their cronuts! Oreo creme and I believe the Nutella cronut! It was yummy! And when we came back to the cafe, they put in a fridge so they could display their sandwiches! They looked super yummy. There were choices to eat inside or outside but it was too cold for our liking so we did inside seating.

BANANA SPLIT WAFFLE It was okay almost served to the same standard as Max Brenner but the waffle itself had a nicer flavour. The ice-cream had the texture of soft serve ice-cream - not that indulgent as you could imagine. The worst part was the lack of chocolate: less than half-way through the plate after scraping every drop of melted chocolate, I was like a druggie looking for my next hit. Quite disappointing as the melted chocolate is what made it good. Luckily ordered the Iced chocolate drink resupply my choc-levels to an acceptable state. ICED CHOCOLATE Drink was pretty good! had lots of chocolate flakes in it. Conclusion I do not understand why chocolate is not the star of the dish as this is a supposed to be a chocolate mecca and to be honest without the chocolate, it is a below average dish at $18.50. Maybe the plate is too small for two waffles reducing the area of melted chocolate. Service is quick and efficient though. If only Max Brenner had their kind of service... Max Brown?? @thesydneynoob

I was pretty impressed with the 16 different flavors of cronuts/cruffins they bake each day. However after trying 4 different flavors (Red Velvet, Boston cream, Orange spice & custard and Chocolate Lavender) I wasn't impressed anymore. Mr. Holmes and Dominique Ansel preserves the meaning of quality over quantity. This is not reflected at Brewtown Newtown. Nearly all their pastries lacked a heavy dose of cream. The cronuts did not even have real layers of croissant in between. The cruffins weren't flaky enough. Sure it was covered in sugar but it was missing that sweet spot (literally). The taste wasn't quite there yet. I also got to try something I've never seen before and to be honest I'm a bit embarassed I ate something so sinfully disgusting. The Elvis burger. I have no idea why it's called that and I don't think this is in anyway a rock star burger. It's basically a burger with plain cronuts as the buns. The moment I took a bite I could feel the heart attack I'm getting when I turn 85. I tasted every drop of oil that was soaked the cronuts and the beef patty from the fryer. Elvis Burger, you won the award for the most disgusting thing I ate in 2015. Do I regret it? A little. Was it good? Kinda. Would I do it again? Probably not, I clogged enough arteries already. P.S. They also have a ridiculously long wait for brunch, I ended up getting take away. This place is kind of overhyped, given it's predictable location (the hipster neighborhood of Sydney.)
