I am never disappointed when looking for a specific hard to find item. Where do I begin with the Vitamin Shoppe right off Kam Hwy in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center. I've grown up here on island and have always seen this place going to pearl kai. I've always been active and motivated in the gym from a very young age but only within the last 5 years been more serious. Of course like most. You head to GNC with no knowledge and relatively no research done and the sales people take you on a trek in what seems to be their approach in sales. And being in sales myself - sell responsibly. Not just to make your numbers. Not to mention customer service is normally subpar for me. Now onto the nitty gritty - I first walked into this location with the pure intent of purchasing Alpha Brain by Onnit Labs as they are the only other retailer on island aside from Whole Foods and at not a bad price either. Beats driving to town from Central Oahu any day. I walked in one morning as soon as they opened and was quickly greeted by Paul. I asked where they kept the alpha brain stock and he quickly dropped what he was doing and showed me where it was located near the register. Rung me up and I was on my way. Quick and easy and to the point. Over the course of the next few months (between bad experiences at GNC I might add) I would always find myself there checking to see what they had. I noticed I only purchased when Paul worked. Maybe it was the previous interaction. Maybe not. But it seemed he knew I was trying to go down a more natural way of growth rather than synthetic. From brain function to increasing muscle repair/growth. From BCAAs to preworkout. Every single time. He nailed it. The BCAA I purchased from him. The best. He not only notes the benefits of the products but also is able to relate it to you and how it should benefit you. I came in yesterday to swap out a supplement and glad I came to this location instead of Kapolei's. Paul, who I think is the manager, spent a great deal of time helping me choose a supplement that was tailored to my special needs/training regime. He also has a comprehensive understanding of adrenals/adaptogens and hormones and the effects of some supplements on said glands. Not many of the supplement store workers know these things...so I love to put them to the test as I am always studying the field of functional medicine/holistic healthcare. Anyways, I normally use Magnum Opus intra workout and nothing else but I wanted to venture out a little and try something with a little more ompf to it. I ended up with a very nice BCAA/Preworkout supplement that did not make me jitter, and I was still able to get to bed at night after a late night gym session. I am giving it a try for a little while but still on the edge because most BCAA supplements use hair and bird feathers as fillers; thus, why I use Magnum products. Okay so if you read my other reviews of me hiking and shit, I complain a lot and basically I have the worst combination of a person who is trying to lose weight: I LOVE FOOD + I HATE EXERCISE = WORST COMBO EVER Anyway, I tried SPARQ training for the first time in the beginning of the week and pretty much died DEAD. Already coming in, I was greeted by manager Pablo and right there I told him, "I DON'T NORMALLY WORK OUT BUT I WANT TO SINCE ALL I'M GETTING FAT SO I WENT SPARQ TRAINING AND MY MUSCLES HURT REAL BAD. NEED WHEY PROTEIN BUT I REALLY DON'T WANT TO BECOME MUSCLE MANIA." Well it kind of went like that. He was very, very knowledgable, about all his products, which was awesome. There were a lot of terms I didn't understand that made him seem like he was speaking a different language but he would see the confused look on my face and would interpret for me (YES!). I ended up getting BodyTech's Primal Pro, which by recommendation, was a well-rounded product and instead of becoming Hulk, I would be able to keep my girlish figure. I also told him I wanted to drop weight because being a Yelp Elite is tough (HOW ELSE DO WE DO REVIEWS? WE NEED TO EAT) so he recommended OxyElite Pro and he told me about his personal experience with it, which made me feel a little more comfortable because I was scared shitless from the look of the bottle. I got it on sale and my whey protein was $20. A lot more reasonable than if I were to buy these products at GNC. I got home and realized I had forgotten the directions that Pablo told me to take these products. Because these products don't seem to be the trial-and-error type, I decided to call the store and ask. I told Andy that I was a n00b at this and I needed help figuring out where I would start with taking these products because I wanted to do it right. She was very helpful and she broke down the directions for me and even recommended me what I should do from her own personal experience from the product. To me supplement stores have always been a not so great way to blow money for mediocre results. Honestly, I still think it's a way to blow money. However, if you are going to blow the money, might as well get the best experience you can doing it. Here the employees will make sure you blow the least money you have to in order to achieve your goal. I can't endorse GNC because I have seen them steer me wrong so many times in the pursuit of the highest commission. Eventually frustration sinks in and you never return. So, granted I don't go all out on this stuff. If I need a few things, however, the manager at this vitamin shoppe is honest and will guide you from start to finish on what you need to achieve your goals. I love that he'll say "yeahh you can get that, but you don't need it" How many times can you say you heard that at GNC? you'll only need one hand if that. The parking spots in the front are perfect since they are 30 minute stalls. Sometimes on the weekend it gets crowded, but be patient and parking will come. read more

Signing up for their free membership provides you with notices on sales on products and after accumulating a number of points you receive rewards. Service is excellent there because they are highly knowledgeable on all products sold in the store. This place is awesome. In world where all of my friends go to GNC I end up going to the vitamin shop. The parking is ample and the location is convenient. I really don't have to go here alot because the stuff I buy here lasts me a long time. Looking at the outside of this store you wouldn't think this place is big. But it's actually a pretty good size. The Vitamin Shoppe offers everything from vitamins to work out supplements. What I think makes this place better than GNC is the prices. At GNC the glutamine I bought would have been 30 dollars. At the Vitamin Shoppe it was ten. What I really liked was that the employees took time out of my day to find out was supplemental needs I had and then they hooked me up. My mom told me to go here one day to get some supplements and vitamins and stuff. I usually drink Emergen C a lot and was surprised how much more of a bargain it is here than any other store! The deals and prices are are very good for a place which carries supplements, vitamins, and other stuff. The staff and customer service is top notch. When I shopped here the first time I signed up for one of their membership stuffs and I guess it's worth it because of all of the notice deals and stuff. It's conveniently located in the Pearl Kai shopping center. Sometimes parking might be limited especially in the day and early noon time due to other patrons of the shopping area. However, I enjoyed browsing through the store and was amazed at how big the store was and how friendly the staff was. When I went inside I started looking around to see what they carried. I was very impressed with the selection of vitamins that they had. I've been to other vitamin stores but none of them compare to the vitamin shoppe. They carry many different brands in the store, therefore you can pick the brand that you like the best. They have a rewards card system that based on the points you accumulate in the year they send you a certain amount back to use in store. (11/11/2012) Found almost everything I was looking for. Trying some new things - one of which is...xylitol. It's supposedly the best sweetner on the block - less carbs and calories than sugar and good for your teeth. I paid the big bucks for THE ULTIMATE LIFE brand which is made from 100% birch and not corn (which I read was "cheap" xylitol?). I don't know. I'm going to use it in my DIY toothpaste, tea and other foods. We'll see. I usually find something on the discount table among all the discounted bottles of supplements, but not today. All-in-all, I like the vitamin shoppe. Wish they had more raw, natural items. The few shelves they do have stock some good stuff though, so I'm good (for now). read more
