Before arriving, I called to confirm their hours, and the person who answered--who I later found out was the owner. He was warm, welcoming, and very pleasant over the phone. That first impression carried over into my visit. When I arrived, I was greeted right away and given a personal walkthrough of the humidor. The owner went into detail about the humidor, which I truly appreciated. Being from the U.S., we technically can't have Cuban cigars, so it was a treat to see such a large, well-thought-out selection available here. Beyond the Cubans, the humidor was well-balanced with both legacy brands and boutique options. Pricing was fair, and the variety of sizes gave plenty of choice for every kind of smoker. Overall, I was impressed not only with the selection but with the customer service and genuine hospitality I experienced here. At first it was endearing and hopeful, but I think it's a rouse. These empty promises are made worse by the enforcement of a local policy that you must buy one of their cigars from the humidor to actually smoke there (at inflated prices plus 40% tax), or buy a private membership. The 2 local goons sitting there made it perfectly clear I wasn't welcome unless I complied. As a business traveler just looking for good company and to enjoy a cigar would find zero value in that proposition. It's not surprising Nick's is empty. I don't predict a bright future here. I'll take my business to other establishments nearby that get the bigger picture and understand how the attract and retain business.
