Was meeting a friend in Marlborough for lunch and she suggested Vin Bin. Didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. Cute cafe, deli, market and wine shop all in one. OMG. Marlborough has a place for hipsters. The wine and cheese selection makes me think of what I'm missing out on in Paris. They have tastings and samplings to remind you why you haven't bought Franzia since you were 18. The sandwiches and soups are delicious. My only complaint is that they're not "man-sized" as I always need something on the side for my $9 sandwich to feel full. Cafe: I go here quite often for lunch and the soups and sandwiches are artfully prepared with local and natural ingredients. Even the bread is from a nearby bakery and doesn't contain the myriad of chemicals usually found in comercial bread. The chef is friendly and is passionate about his poroduct. This is easily the best lunch in marlborough, and it's considerably cheaper than the other lunch places downtown. The only draw back is that the atmosphere can be a little cramped at times, and you're eating in a liquor store. Cheese: I've gotten cheese and pate here before, and the staff is super knowledgable and pasisonate. Their slection of eurpean cheeses and local cheeses cannot be beat in terms of quality. The big box stores may have the quantity, but the Vin Bin has true quality. Wine: This is one of the few liquor stores that truly embraces small batch beer and liquor fro the local area. That being said, the main event here is the wine. They have an entire section of French wine and it's attractively priced. This is one of the few sotres outside of Boston/Cambridge whenre you can find Beaujolais Cru (not the Beaujolais nouveau), Chateauneuf-du-pape, and Bordeaux. Vin Bin is a very good place to go if you are local and are looking for a good selection of Wine, Cheese, or Craft Brews. They have an excellent selection of French Reds, good connections to the surrounding Cheese Farms, and some beers that you can only get there or at larger stores. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Always ready to give their suggestion, I have yet to go wrong in pairing. They also sponsor some dinners in the area. Cheese selection is a good plus too. They can always point you to the best ones, and pair them well with meals and bottles. Two reasons for a 4 in stead of 5, the price point is 10-15% too high in comparison to surrounding options, and although their craft brew selections are good, there is not enough of them. Super friendly young man at counter, quite patient with everyone ordering & clearly loved the food - did a great job representing the sandwiches. FOOD: Most of us ordered sandwiches & panini. My $12 panini was a definite miss: Cheese was not melted fully, grilled chicken was a little dry, and the biggest disappointment was the ciabatta was not a good quality bread. Tasted like any packaged white fluff of a bread - not a crusty bread as I would have expected. Why? Vin Bin seemingly offers high quality ingredients - but the bread actually detracts from the whole experience. Out of a group of nine, none of us loved the food enough. I would say that this is the hidden jem of Marlborough. What is not to like about this? They have a killer wine, cheese, and craft beer selection, they also make some of the best sandwiches I have ever had at lunch time. Shopping for cheese here is great, the people behind the counter actually know the products, and can help you zero in on what you are looking for. I came to the soft opening of Vin Bin Southborough, in the home of the former beloved Panzano Market. Among the changes, a new open floor plan, expanded wines and brew but the same LOVABLE Panzano crew the BREAD and COOKIES, helmed by our favorite "Sandwich King" himself - Mike Lombardi. For dirt lovers, it has been no secret I had a fall out with papa Lombardi when I became a part time supplier... It was a very difficult experience to see the "ugly side" of business when you give the appearance of needing something instead of leaving behind your hard earned dead presidents. But living is forgiving, and I have always been proud of Chef Mike and the quality of his food and service. I don't like to penalize very hard working staff for the faux paz of management (we all have an off day and it was good material for a superb blog article!). This family has poured their soul into giving Vin Bin a great reputation, and now they are bringing it to Southborough - where I hope to continue to bump into some of my favorite Panzano crew. Of COURSE I will continue to trek into Wellesley and visit the Wasiks - a family as hardworking and true to themselves 24-7 regardless of where you sit on the totem pole! But supporting local is also important, and if papa L big kahuna is ok with wiping the slate he cracked in front of my husband and son - I'm all for new beginnings and a dose of Mike's sandwiches... Speaking of which... Its a cold meatless Monday, and the young devil took on a roasted wild mushroom, mozzarella, tomato and pesto caprese, that was luscious! OH MIKE HOW I HAVE MISSED THEE! This takes me back to my favorite haunts in both Frederick MD and Colorado Springs, CO. A wine focused store with great "indy" beers and of course fabulous cheese. I will admitt, I'm a bit fearful of the upcoming move (even if it is across the street) only because I've seen so many businesses fail when this happens. I am, however, excited about their upcoming additions of a micro-brew! My favorites: 1) smaller selection of lesser known brands makes finding a unique gem a great possiblity. 2) I really feel the wines and cheeses have been fully vetted and are not just "there" because of a promo or a push. 3) local ownership who actually care about the wine business and not just the "fad" of drinking wines. (I'll go to TJ for cooking wine ... the stuff here, I drink and serve). 4) the buck in the bucket beer. i'm not a beer drinker, but i'll grab 2-3 when friends who do drink it are coming over. 5) gluten free beer. yeah! I really have to stay away from the cheese or the mortgage payment MIGHT go out the window. Execptional staff, exceptional owners, helpful suggestions and a great addition to Marlborough. I've only been here once since they opened their new location, which I think was their first week open. The place was pretty empty, and more importantly, THEY WERE OUT OF GOAT GOUDA, but I've driven by every day since and it looks a lot more full. Everyone here is super helpful when you're trying to find a wine pairing. If I am buying bulk I tend to go somewhere else that offers better discounts with a case purchase, but this place is perfect if you're just picking up a bottle or 2. Highly recommend! read more

The cafe has a great selection of sandwiches. The Shoemaker is my personal favorite (chicken salad). I have a gluten allergy, which they can accommodate well. I have never had an adverse reaction to one of their sandwiches. For some reason, though, they never cut the GF sandwiches, which makes it hard to eat. I always forget to ask for a knife. The GF bread is tasty and often worth the hassle when it falls apart, but sometimes I just ask for no bread. read more
