US Post Office - Gotta love my post office! 09/24/24

Yorkville, Upper East Side

United States Post Office is the tops in my opinion. This branch has always been convenient for me…read morewhen I'm in the neighborhood. It's on York just south of 79th Street. When the Charles Schulz Peanuts collection came out I went to every nearby post office trying to get the stamps. Naturally my local post offices didn't have them. My daughter surprised me and ordered them online as a gift for my birthday or some occasion! I find the employees here to be more cooperative over the years since the postal service made it easier to review your experience. Just use the QR Code on the receipt and answer a few questions! Five Stars easily.

This place is an absolute nightmare. I just moved nearby, and the attendant in the first (leftmost)…read morebooth is just plain angry, abusive, and aggressive. I sat waiting for a label to generate for about 20 minutes- she seriously just yelled at EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER coming through her line. Very argumentative, rude-- I cannot believe why she has not been fired. I have been here multiple times (unfortunately to her window), and would not return. I have been to the person on the other side (rightmost booth on long side), who is perfectly reasonable and none of the above. This aggressor sets the tone for the entire PO. After she rushed everyone through, yelling about it incessantly, she called her friend and talked about the cheesesteak she was about to eat for 10m. Also, I would like to note there is a difference between comprehensibly explaining something to someone, vs picking an argument and yelling at someone with negative assumptions. Another time it was almost (but NOT) closing time and right in front of me, another person locked the front door while I was inside the vestibule. I WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE. And even said this OUT LOUD! Seriously it makes no sense. It's as though they WANT to upset us for being customers who need postal service. It wasn't even closed yet, but afterwards she explained that she has to lock it, or people will keep entering. THAT IS WHAT OPEN HOURS ARE FOR.

If you have to go, avoid Saturdays, which again, I find myself breaking my rule as I stand on an epic line. In terms of services, this one is a small one so not a lot of supplies here. There is a self serve vending machine that sells stamps and accepts payments if you have a PO box. There are four manned windows behind plexiglass that move at a decent pace but the demand is high and they have to deal with customers that are often ill prepared when they get to the window. I applaud their patience. A sign at each window begs beloved customers to finish their calls before getting to the window. Obvious but unfortunately necessary. Again I applaud the attempt at trying to assist us in moving things along as fast as possible. This raised my rating from a 2 star to a 3 star. When I started this review, I had to hold the door open because the line was literally out the door. Time flies while you write reviews and I find myself now at the front of the line. In an effort to ensure I am not one of the annoying customers that hold everything up needlessly while still on the phone shuffling through pockets for ID at the last minute, I will heed their advice and sign off.

Most of the post office close around 5pm. I was here after snow storm day and 2 windows were opened :) it was a big line but I was only on line about 10min. Put music on then waited.... It was pretty quick :) so, do not frustrated from the line. (Many ppl wrote it "LONG LINE") I also recommend to do the self checking. They have ground floor and upstairs. I took one star of the escalator was off. I go here time to time and sometimes one side to the up is on. so, if you don't like to use the stairs, avoid here. Convenient location 909 3rd ave / E55st.

Some customers were unpleasant and I did see them get the energy they deserved to put it nicely. It has nice artwork and sculptures around the building and they really put up quite a bit of decorations for Breast Cancer awareness month which I haven't seen any other places do. What is off putting is the smell. It always smells of homeless or has some horrible odor emitting from the place especially at the entrance and the first floor. I would definitely think that if I could smell it and other customers smell it then the custodial staff would also be able to smell it as well.
