This post office is terrible. Clerks are slow, rude, inefficient. I generally find just one clerk working, the others are meandering about, no matter how long the line gets. Just as bad with Amazon deliveries- they don't come and send "attempted delivery, unable to deliver" message to Amazon, meanwhile there is no delivery notice (since they never came) and I have to call USPS for redelivery through Amazon-generally spend about 20-25 minutes on phone. I wish they had better oversight and more importantly, change those employees with people who actually want to work. read more

Sent an international package for Christmas. After filling out all of the paperwork the clerk did not put the right address. 200 dollars to ship, 500 dollars worth of gifts and 2 months later our package is still missing. Never mind my family didn't receive Christmas gifts. Not too mention the staff is always in a terrible mood. This place can be hit or miss depending upon the day and time. Normally when I walk my dog here to drop off packages it is a very quick affair. However every so often it can drag on for 30 minutes plus. This is mainly due to the issue that only 1 post office official is running the 3 registers at the time. The staff is mainly older seasoned employees which means they know what they are doing. It also means that they are jaded and far more grumpy. The post office itself isn't very large and isn't easy to find as it is under a parking garage. They do provide P.O. Boxes and a large counter to handle people filling out paperwork. Overall it's not the best of environments,however, it is the only one we have on the island. Therefore it's even you go here or you are screwed. read more

Very rarely have the desire to boycott a business but I will do my utmost to avoid the US Postal Service and this particular location. Their professionalism and customer service have gone to the gutter. When I attempted to cash a money order they didn't have enough cash in the register and when I asked for feedback on where else I could go, their rudeness was unbelievable. I spent the whole day going from one post office to another and the customer service telephone number didn't allow me to get through to a live human. Methinks the USPS should stop selling money orders (which they charge a fee for) and perhaps generally go out of business. They are an inefficient and antiquated behemoth that should cease to exist. read more

Unfortunately I can't give zero stars. My packages never get delivered to my door, so I always have to go to this post office. Yesterday (March 4th) I got to the post office at 10:15am. Of course, the doors were locked and no one was there. A line started to form outside. One guy at the front of the line saw a woman peek out from a door inside the post office, then duck and hide when she realized she'd been noticed. WTF ARE YOU DOING BACK THERE?? While people are waiting in the snow. You have terrible hours to begin with, at least you could open on time. I had to leave, empty handed, about ten minutes later as I had to go to work. I'm not sure what time they ended up opening, I would assume around 10:45-11am. Ridiculous. I can't believe that's where my tax money is going. read more

My review is about one particular worker who is more or less a racist. What other reviewers said is mostly true but I'm generally okay with people work there - they don't smile or seem friendly and they seem can't care less. Line is long and slow. But mostly I just drop off boxes and pick up packages and everything seems fine. Except this white old man. Another reviewer complained about him so he has a history of being a racist and being rude. I told him I have a package with pre-paid label. I put the package on the counter. I repeated. Then he lowered his voice and mimicked "pre-paid label," then bursted into laughter. What is wrong with that guy? I didn't find it funny at all and just looked at him. He then stopped laughing, and I asked him, excuse me were you making fun of my pronunciation? He denied and told me to "get a sense of humor." Again, what is wrong with this guy? To that I replied, yeah I have a sense of humor but it's different from making fun of somebody. He just interrupted me and said no, no, no. When I was about to leave, he kept saying, "have a good weekend." Of course, in a PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE way. So, this white old dude, if you're reading this, please know, you are working on an island that has a racially and culturally diverse population. PLEASE RESPECT EVERYONE. IT IS NOT FUNNY TO MIMICK ANYONE. Thanks God you're not a stand-up comedian because you'll be a BAD one. And you'll probably get a punch in the face or shout outs if you tell your audience to "get a sense of humor" when they don't find you funny. Well, YOU ARE JUST NOT FUNNY. Terrible place and terrible workers, they had me waiting on line for over an hour with two infants only to tell me after that their camera for passport photos is broken! They saw me waiting the entire time on line and didn't have the decency to mention that to me or anyone else until my turn came up which was after waiting 1 hour after the appointment I had. They did it on purpose. The clerks that work here are disgusting and miserable people who hate their jobs and hate customers. Don't go here! Like other reviews, I would also give "0" star if these exists such an option. I usually don't bother to give negative reviews 'cos I don't want to spend the time. But this USPS is consistently bad for all 4 experiences I have in the past month. I just moved to end of September and my encounters are: 1) Waited to post a package and had to stand in line for 35 mins., while there were only 3 customers in front of me. I understand that there was only on clerk at the counter, but that is still unacceptable. 2) I was there to purchase 5 domestic stamps and the clerk (different one from encounter 1) had trouble counting 5 stamps! 3) I have a certified mail sent to me. According to tracking information, the mail arrived at the Post office on Oct. 26 at 1:30pm, got sorted on Oct. 27 at 8:50am and out for delivery at 9:00am. And there is no sign of the mail yet (nor any update in terms of tracking info.). What took so long for the carrier to deliver this mail which is only 1 mile away from the branch office and on an island of 14,000 residents? 4) I tried called the local branches direct dial number for more than 6 times during their business hours, and each call was hung up from the other end! read more

This post office has improved lately. The workers are more willing to be personable and the lines do no seem as long as they used to be. It is very convenient to have a post office on Roosevelt Island. read more

How I wish I can rate NEGATIVE stars to this USPS branch as one star does OVERRATE this place. Rude, slow and unprofessional staffs are wasting your time no matter what you are planning to do. They can hold you for over half an hour for just shipping a package (besides the hours-long wait for being called), they will search for over an hour for your package pickup, even they do not know how to get extra insurance for your package. Do not waste your time here and call another courier for your mails and packages. read more

If I could, I will give 0 star, or negative for how the officeres in this office are trashing their customers. There are only two clerks working here. One white old guy, one black guy. The black guy is ok, while I have extremely bad experience with the white old guy. I went to the post office to send an international package, he didn't ask me what kind of shipping I need, but presumablly used first-class international mail while I need tracking and a two weeks dilievery time. He assured me the this will take A WEEK(is it too good to be true? priority mail takes 6-10 days, first-class international mail takes A WEEK?). AND when I ask to have tracking, he ASSURED me that this one has tracking. When I left the post office and after a week, I checked the status of the package online and was shocked to find out that there is NO tracking but a custom number!!!! there is no insurance nor anything!!! The package has not been processed nor depart the sorting facilitys!!! my heart broke!!! This white old guy mislead me and got me into this HUGE trouble and loss because first-class international mail to China is infamous for extremely long dielevery time for several month and a very high rate of lost packages!!! How can the USPS clerk cheated heir customer!!!??? Well, the worse things are coming: so I went to the post office and expressed my frustration when the black guy was there, he doesn't want to listen to me, and instead told me again what is WRONG from their USPS website that first class international mail takes 6-10 days, he rudely pushed me out of the line to serve the next customer. I said I need to speak to there supervisor, and it turned out that their supervisor, a black women is a real d-bag. She has no understanding of their business, or she was doing it on purpose: repeat what was wrong to be consistant with their unprefessional workers, when I ask her to show the origin of her word(lie!), she refused to have the conversation and asked the police!!! I filed complaint by calling 800-ask-usps and they immediately expressed their appology and confirmed that the clerk was misleading. This is not the end of the story, and the d-bags in this office will get their punishment for incompetance with their business, arrogant and shameless atitude in trashing their customers. read more

This post office deserves -0 Stars.. slow as watching paint dry. The mail clerks just don't care ..no matter how long the lines gets. No sense of urgency.. only 2 mail clerks work at a time (mind you the population of Roosevelt island is over 14,000.00). My wife and I came to get our infant son's passport done. I can only speak to our experience with the woman who helped us today - she was very friendly, informative, and polite. She even tried to make our son laugh by jingling her keys! We came as prepared as we could regarding forms and the process was pretty painless. The people before us weren't as prepared and they still received really good service as well. We chose this location thinking it would be less crowded, fortunately we were right. Do NOT use this place if you need to apply for a new passport because your current one is damaged (which requires a special process). Guy working there had absolutely no clue what he was doing. So, although I followed the directions on the US Dep't of State website and did everything correctly, my application is now incomplete and won't be accepted because this guy didn't know he had to sign one of the documents and charge me a processing fee. ZERO STARS! USPS should fire these people and even though one if them is knowledgeable she is so incredibly rude! Working for the post office is a sweet deal while it requires a low level of education. I have been to this post office at all times of the day and every time I get there, no matter at what hour, 2 out of 3 employees are on a break!! The lines becomes long and many send packages to China (this is a veeeery long process consisting of a lot of forms to be filled out, measuring the package, getting info about delivery times and being undecided about which option to chose) + pretending they don't know how to seal a box or envelope-and expect the clerk to actually do this for them- you can be stuck there for 45 minutes just to buy a money order or stamp. The one rude clerk favors some customers over others one example being when a family came in to apply for their passport and she allowed them to hold up the line-she allowed them to leave the paperwork on her counter and made everyone wait for these people to get money out of the ATM in order to pay for the passport fee. There is no ATM machine anywhere near the post office. I started buying labels on line now and drop them off without waiting on the line but the clerks fail to scan them! TOTAL DISASTER! read more

Postal clerks here are perpetuating the image of the inefficient civil service employees. I arrived at 10:40am to submit an application for a passport, but I was informed that they don't start taking passport applications until 11:00am. After they helped the other 2 customers waiting on the line, I again asked a different clerk if she could take my application, and again I was told not until 11:00am. So I waited from 10:45am until 11:00am to submit my application when only 1 other customer came in during that period of time. Three clerks sitting around doing nothing when they could have given me the courtesy to process my application before 11:00am. I can understand waiting until 11:00am if there were a lot of customers waiting to be helped with other postal services, but REALLY? They chose to ignore me for 15 minutes when only 1 other customer came in that period. Really BAD work attitude! read more
