I am definitely here to review & praise the "Gun Safety & Familiarization" Class offered @ Wild West Traders. FYI - I have limited feedback to provide about the actual store/range. I did hear mixed opinions from folks that frequent this store for ammo and range time so... I think that there were just as many positive as there were negative comments floating around about the store/range itself. SO, ABOUT THE CLASS: If you are a female (Like me) and you want to beef up your knowledge-base of personal defense and learn about gun safety - THIS IS THE BEST CLASS you can take to get your feet wet. HANDS DOWN. I'll tell ya - the accolades are directed towards the instructor, Gunny Herren 100%. Never have 4hrs of class time been so much fun! Gunny's energy & dedication makes me love the 2nd Amendment (and I'm a Chick)! My boyfriend bought me the "Gun Safety & Familiarization" class as a stocking stuffer for Christmas and OMG - This class was awesome. Gunny is very clear and concise about the material covered and he asks you several times throughout the class time portion - if you understand or have any questions about the material covered. I won't give away anything about this class because it's totally worth it to take it and hear it straight from the best qualified and most personable guy, Gunny Herren. Once we made it from the classroom to the range - It was my 1st time holding a gun - let alone shooting one! I wasn't nervous and Gunny didn't rush anyone. He gave personal attention to everyone in this class and it was a packed class - I assure you. When I finally got up to "pop" my firearm cherry - it was a piece of cake and it was SO EXHILARATING!! Gunny was as happy as I was when I fired off my 1st shots. I tell you - under other instruction from anyone else and I may not have dug it as much. But holy cow - just as Gunny said, "This sure beats bowling ANY DAY!" Ladies - this guy can teach you EVERYTHING about personal safety. If he's teaching a Tactical/Defense class, I'm definitely signing up! Thanks again Wild West Traders - Your class was memorable and I'm now shopping for my 1st handgun. Ok let start off saying this low review is due to me having a transfer purchase and yes my background was completed and I'm still within my 30 days before needing another one. There you go. So I called the store because I had ups send me notifications of my delivery and just checking and the young man was rude by saying I'm not sure have you received a calll I replied no but my package was just delivered his response well we will call you not sure how long this will take. Not taking this for an excuse. So I called back and spoke with someone else and the gentleman explained the process and that's when I informed him I be taken the steps needed background, completed transfer papers before I left the store and made my online purchase. I'm not being confrontational however I'm just someone who follows up and will not be bullied. He told me I'll check and see if they can pull your form and speed the process. Well how long is the process, I'm not going to wait until after my 30 days and have to do another background check. No sir I will show up call every single day until this is done people are so unprofessional rude disrespectful this is my money not yours and you are not going to sell my gun and think I'm going to forget no I'm going to remind you every single day. I found out about this place just cruising down Austel Road. I was a bit disenchanted with a competing range nearby and decided to give these guys a try. Immediately when you go in these guys are real friendly and they will answer any question or make suggestions on any firearm you want. I've also met some really cool guys there, and different folks who let me try out their guns. The place to me just has more of a club feel. These guys realize this is a hobby and make it fun and give you some good suggestions on other firearms you like. One of the guys who works there let me try a few rounds through a pistol I had been looking at with no charge. I told him I didn't have any ammo and he just handed me a handful of rounds and let me go. Go check these guys out and see for yourself. read more

Recently had a private lesson with Kendall. Worth every penny! Not only was he knowledgeable, he was personable and took time to answer questions and explain fully every topic we covered. Will definitely be back. Planning on going to the range to get comfortable with my gun and then take another class or private lesson. After taking this lesson, this was the most comfortable I have felt handling my gun. I believe I could defend myself now, should the need arrive. Gunny is an excellent gun safety instructor. He provided one on one assistance and was very patient. Kept the class instruction interesting and was able to answer every question. It was my 21-year old daughter's first class and shooting a hand gun and he was great with her and gave her a lot of positive feedback for the good shooter she turned out to be. I recently relocated to GA from CT. My eldest daughter encouraged me to take a gun safety class and buy a gun for personal protection. Never in my life would I have considered it BUT....the case of the home invasion in Cheshire, CT. had been lingering in my mind for some time. I took the first step and signed up at Wild West Traders after reading positive reviews. Come the day of the class, I was scared. Gunny, our instructor is top of the line. Ex-marine, Quantico trained, great sense of humor and more; he made everyone feel comfortable. He went over the basics of gun operation and safety. GA laws, FBI statistics, and most importantly...if someone is breaking into your home they are coming in with a plan, so be prepared and HAVE a plan. The class went by so quickly, I was suprised when it came time to pick out our rental and begin our target practice. Lo and behold I'm hooked...what a blast (no pun intended). The sales staff was great at allowing me to try other guns before I made my purchase, and with Gunnys advice I bought a Smith & Wesson .38 special. Excellent experience!! I took the gun safety class 4 hours long. I thought I would get bored and want to leave early but the instructor Guy Pappalardo was funny, knowledgable, friendly and a joy to learn from! ( with a contagious laugh) lol hahah. He did a great job making valuable points and I felt the time just flew! He has a lot of experience with fire arms and it shows! The only suggestion I have is that they organize the classroom; give it some type of makeover it was a little messy. However, this didn't take away from the experience! I visited several stores before purchasing a handgun from Wild West Traders. Their staff members were kind and very helpful. This was my first firearm purchase so it was important for me to feel like I could ask as many questions as I needed to feel comfortable. They never made me feel rushed. I purchased a new Beretta 9mm and their price was $30-$40 cheaper than a nearby competitor. I went back to the range the next day and had a good experience. I plan to bring my wife with me on Wednesdays because they currently offer free range time to ladies on Wednesdays with purchase of a box of ammo---great deal. I'm a relatively new gun owner, but not a complete stranger to shooting or ranges. Wild West is the best range around. Lots of lanes, pretty good lighting and ventilation. The staff is always super nice and helpful. They were out of .380 ammo which was a bummer. But other than that I've never had anything but positive things to say. My first gun purchase was made here and so far of my two visits I have bought a firearm from them. I am a newbie to owning, so it was nice that the first person (Roman) to approach me and guide me didn't judge me differently. Prices marked fair though a bit on the high end but I'm willing to support this local gun store at their asking price. Staffs are friendly and knowledgable. Particularly Roman. Great guy and very patient. Did not force or push me towards any specific firearm. They express their honest opinion and ultimately let you decide. Ammo is pricey. My mother and I had the pleasure of taking a Gun Safety and Familiarization class and it was fantastic. We both went in feeling nervous about handling a gun (especially big guns) However, after spending 4 hrs with Gunny all our fears went away. The class which could have seemed long and boring was but the least. Gunny's witty sense of humor and in depth knowledge made the class go by like a breeze. We both left with a full understanding of where we can and cannot carry our firearm and which states acknowledge our permit to carry. We also learned the difference between a revolver and an automatic and the difference in recoil vs bullet and gun size (one of the times size matters). In our class we also received one on one time with Gunny as he helped us with the pieces to a gun, gun handling and our hand grip. Learning our eye dominance we spent about 45 mins to an hour on the lanes learning to quick fire and rapid fire. If you haven't had an opportunity to take a gun safety class this is a MUST. Money and time well spent. We are now members and will be attending weekly. We absolutely enjoy this place and know you will too. read more

I just took the Gun Safety & Familiarization class here and I walked away feeling much more confident about purchasing and owning a firearm. The instructor Gunny was very knowledgeable about the laws, handling, and techniques and made it easy for beginners to understand. He was also very entertaining which made the 4 hour class much less of a drag. The 3 hours of class and 1 hour on the range was a sufficient combo. Looking forward to going back for the Defensive Pistol course. By the way, I drove all the way from Downtown Atlanta to Marietta for this and it was totally worth it so I will be back. read more

Nice range and shop but the only reason I'm giving it a low score is two years ago I refused the purchase of a gun based solely on my nationality. Other then that one incident I have still given them my business because I prefer to support my local shops but have never tried purchasing a firearm here since and have gone to one across town. read more

I took a gun safety class with Gunny yesterday. It was five hours long and went by so fast I could not believe it. Everyone in the gun store is friendly and knowledgable. The shooting ranges are clean and well maintained. As far as instruction goes, Gunny was the best! He was in the Marines for 30 years and did a great job teaching myself and the other women I the class not only about gun safety, but general protection as well. We used the range for an hour and although I don't have an addictive personality, this is something I know I will love more and more! read more

I was looking for a good place for my wife to learn to shoot. The prices here are great and the lanes do the trick. Gunny was an outstanding instructor and took time with my wife as she took her first shots. I like the way he worked with us and taught us good techniques rights out of the gate. I did my homework and visited their website before visiting this range. For a $10 all day range pass, I wasn't expecting much. I'm happy to report that my expectations were greatly exceeded. This is a nice range with a very friendly staff. They really made me feel welcome. Also, the website doesn't reflect their current policy for 12 ga. Frangibles are no longer required and you may shoot 00 buck or slugs. They also had reasonable ammo pricing. Good job fellas! read more

This is the place I purchased my first firearm from. The staff is very friendly and helped me out a lot in finding a great firearm for a first time user. They also have a great selection ranging from pistols to rifles to even tasers and batons. The only negative I found about the place was that some of the firing lanes seemed like they needed a bit off attention repair wise and their ammo seems to be a little over priced compared to their competitors. Overall Wild West is a great gun store and I will continue to do all my gun purchases there. read more

Went in today to see .22 target pistols. Watched a guy with just what I am looking for blow the bullseyes out of several targets on their range. The rest went like this..."I'm interested in seeing a setup like that man is shooting." "We have a bunch" "Can I see a few?" "If you don't know what your looking for maybe you should look online." "If you don't want to show me any .22's that's ok, I'm out of here." I've NEVER been treated with such a condescending attitude EVER. My wife couldn't believe it either. I doubt she sells many weapons. Maybe it just wasn't her day but I won't be back. I did report the experience to a supervisor via phone shortly after. read more

I attended the Gun Safety and Familiarization class with Wes (the instructor) on August 20, 2017. I read the reviews prior to purchasing the Groupon, and I must admit that I was a bit apprehensive about associating myself with Wild West Traders due to all the negative comments. However, my experience was phenomenal. Wes was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the topic at hand, and very patient with everyone in the class. During the shooting portion of the class he made sure that we were comfortable with the weapons we selected. He answered all of our questions and was always ready and willing to assist. I would highly recommend taking this class with Wes. I felt comfortable and welcomed at WWT from the moment I entered their front doors to the moment that I left. The only negative thing that I can think of was, the shooting area was extremely hot, not enough ventilation. read more

I've been to Wild West a couple of times now to shoot my .45 ACP and recently took they're handgun safety course. The range has plenty of lanes and is well-lit. Everyone I've interacted with has been friendly and knowledgeable. Our instructor for the Handgun Safety Course was Gunny Herren (there are other instructors as well) and it was a blast. Gunny definitely knew his stuff and obviously enjoyed what he was doing. The class was 4 hours long including range time but Gunny's engaging style made it seem much shorter. Just a few basic tips from him and I saw a huge improvement in my marksmanship. I'm definitely looking forward to taking the Self-Defense course from him! read more

The store and staff at WWT are great! A solid inventory, can find some firearms you won't see everywhere, and their prices are good to competitive (it's rare that they list something more expensive than another local shop). Even ammo prices are very reasonable, though the one issue I've run into is their stock of plinking ammo is spotty, especially in 9mm. They will have some, but most likely not the brand/type you want. The staff are nice, knowledgeable, and can assist with just about any question you have. They also will rarely steer you wrong with advice. I haven't taken any of their classes, but I know someone who has and she said it was excellent. Why 3 stars? The range...not a fan. Brass everywhere, non-digital target retrieval system, ventilation wasn't all that great (powder clouds hang around for a second or two), the distances are not clearly marked (faded paint on the side walls only, marking what I assume were 9 foot increments, but could have been yards), and I didn't care for the booth design (can't see other shooters, not a ton of room for two, booth not well lit). But the worst offense? Last time I went, I didn't see an RSO at all for the 45 minutes I was there. Not sure if the RSO was just not there or in another room, but the fact that they aren't constantly patrolling (and maybe pushing some brass) does not scream safety to me (as on my last visit I was swept by another shooter's muzzle on my way out). Range price is very good ($10 all day...leave and bring back your receipt for more fun), but that's about it. read more

First time at Wild West Traders to take the firearms safety class to learn a little bit more about handguns. My experience had been one time at a range with a shotgun...and I was nervous for sure. We were there to learn 1. Firearm safety- how to handle them correctly. 2. Differences between semi automatic and revolvers, which included putting dummy bullets in and out, learning how to operate them. 3. How to shoot- how to hold the gun, position, aiming etc. 4. Range time to practice what we learned. Wes was our instructor, and I couldn't have asked for a more patient, knowledgable guy. He explained all the terms etc., but more importantly was all about showing us and letting us handle different handguns, putting bullets in, taking them out etc. and letting us get more comfortable handling them. I was never once made to feel stupid for not knowing something or not doing something right... Lots of laughs with the great group that was there that day. Had an hour + range time at the end. Gun rental was included with the class, you just had to buy ammo. I tried a variety of handguns, and Wes even brought in his own personal handguns for us to try to give us a variety of experiences which I thought was really great, not to mention generous. All in all, highly recommended, especially if you are contemplating buying your own handgun in the future. Thanks to Wes and Wild West Traders for a great experience! read more

Fantastic shopping experience, knowledgeable guys, good selection, competitive prices, superior customer service. Range was a little warm but I was grateful for the free passes they gave us after purchasing a conceal/carry weapon, a Springfield XD Mod 2 9mm. We went to Wild West after trying to buy a pistol at Great Outdoors (GO) down the street as they refused to sell us the pistol that was for sale in the case. I could not have been happier with our decision. Not only was the same pistol significantly less, but this small and well stocked store was not nearly as overwhelming as the giant retailer down the street. We were greeted promptly and my paperwork was completed quickly and efficiently. Also a plus, their Springfield rep was onsite, ready to outfit us with some cool swag and he even checked on us in the range in case we had any questions. I was so pleased with the whole experience I will send people their way and continue to be a regular customer. I live in the Woodstock/Kennesaw and I'll make the trip down to Austell any day for these guys. They're not pushy and have you best interest at heart. Visit them for yourself. You'll see. Wife and I took Gunny's four hour beginner training class this weekend. Great instructor, informative, fun, excellent class. Employees friendly and helpful. Was really pleased with the whole experience, from beginning to end. Got the one year family membership before we left. Cheaper than any other membership and range in the area, and includes children under 18. Not as large as the big stores, more personal and relaxed. read more
