UPS Stores are franchised and independently owned. The nasty man who works here is either the franchise owner or an employee; he does not answer to UPS. Since he is still working here, it is likely that he is his own boss (makes sense). The Staples store on Rte. 9 in Hadley does UPS shipping. You can either take your ready-to-ship items there, or staff can assist you with purchasing packing materials and preparing the package to ship via UPS. They are very friendly and accommodating there. They also take Amazon returns, as does Whole Foods in Hadley. read more

I've just read a bunch of reviews of this store and everyone has the same gripes about the rude guy who works there. And they always get the same boiler-plate response from UPS, apologizing for the negative experience and then vowing to "take steps to address the issue." Well, in at least a couple of years, no steps have been taken to address the issue as the same guy is still there and he is still as rude as ever. I went in today to get a quote on an item I wanted to ship. I hadn't been there in over a year and I was hoping someone else was going to wait on me. But no, same guy. He seemed angry and seemed to snarl at the young woman in front of me; she seemed taken aback and frightened. I was able to get my quotes from him, though with no eye contact and no smile, despite the eye contact and smiles I was giving him. He did give me a helpful tip before I left, though. One thing I've learned is that you have to pick your battles. If you know going in that you're not going to get the pleasant customer service you'd like, then you can steel yourself and simply get your work done without getting upset. Another thing I know is that you can't change people. The only way he may change is if he really wants to. And this is in addition to UPS "taking steps to address the issue"--which they obviously haven't. In fact, he probably doesn't even think of himself rude; it's just his nature. As long as he gets the job done and UPS considers him a dependable employee, he'll continue to wait on people. I come here because it's the closest to home. If you really need to feel welcome, then I'd recommend going to either Northampton or Greenfield. But if you go in knowing what to expect, it can be okay, though perhaps a bit withering. read more

It's almost comical, how reliably awful the guy is who runs this place. It's like if you took the Grinch, Ebeneezer Scrooge and all the jerks in every John Hughes movie, rolled them up, soaked them overnight in arsenic and bile, and smushed them together, that guy would be 1/3 as awful as the UPS guy. I think he got kicked out of Isis for being too cruel. He snarled at me for not having the shipping label lined up exactly right, I told him that my mother is in her mid-80s and has trouble with things like this. One time I was in there, and I got a younger guy, who seemed fine until Mr. Smiley wandered out, and the younger guy started being rude to me, like he was worried he wasn't being crappy enough to please his boss. I like others have found this store, more specifically the man behind the counter to be rude beyond words. I have visited this store for years and unfortunately nothing has changed. When I went in there today there were already 5 people waiting in front of me. This man took each item he received to the back room and did who knows what, leaving everyone waiting for him to come back to the counter. He did this with every single person in line , by the time I left there were 6 more people waiting. By far, the worst customer service that I encounter. It's too bad that sometimes there is not another choice, I have actually driven to Northampton on occasion to avoid this man. In response to the Amherst UPS Store's expression of regret that I had a negative experience at their establishment, and their request for more details about my visit, this is my reply: 1. My report could not be more detailed. If you are implying that you cannot glean from this very clear information how to improve your service, then I find your expression of concern disingenuous. 2. There are several years worth of reviews similar to mine, detailing the abuse customers have endured at the hands of this very not nice man. I think you're equipped with enough feedback to understand the problem. If one sincerely wants honest feedback on how to improve the quality of your customers' experience, I offer this: Treat people respectfully. Do not bully, intimidate, ridicule, embarrass, demean, discount, gaslight, dismiss, upset, belittle, rattle, or abuse them in any other manner. If one has a hardwired contempt for other people, and doesn't like working with the public, then one might consider another line of work. I'd recommend avoiding this place as much as possible. The angry guy that is always there wearing dirty light blue shirts that need washing needs to be avoided since he is so freaking rude. I brought back an amazon package and he was screaming at me this morning about it trying to make a scene in front of other customers. On top of that, while he was rude with me in front of 3 customers, bringing me to tears, The other male employee did not step in to help, just silently ignored The abuse... When ever I'm at the store there is always a line of people out the door. The wait is long but what postal service place isn't these days but when it is my turn for service, they are always kind and helping. When i don't know something all i do is ask and they explain it to me and give me suggestions so next time it would take less time to finish what i need to do. They pretty fast for what it seems like they are very under staffed and their services are great! I would recommend this place to go to if you need to get things shipped on time! read more

I drive 20 minutes to the UPS in Northampton instead of 5 minutes here in order to avoid this place. The bald man is one of the rudest people I have ever met. Last time I was here I had several amazon drop off returns (which I only did because to package it and do the label myself was going to cost $5 VS free to do the drop off). I explained this to him multiple times and apologized for the inconvenience. Instead he says "maybe if you didn't have so much shit it wouldn't take so long." I am happy I didn't read the review on here about him being rude to an elderly lady until right now, or I would have probably punched him in the face. read more

You know, I wanted to write a review about how awful the service was and how rude the associate working that day was, but it seems like everyone else has already done the same. I'm not from Hadley, I was just visiting a friend so this was my first time at this store. I had never mailed a package through the UPS Store before, so I politely asked the guy at the counter for help. He pointed in a corner for me to grab a box and pointed towards the wall for me to get a roll of tape that I had to pay for (not a big deal, I didn't mind paying) all while avoiding eye contact and rolling his eyes into the back of his head. His tone was incredibly rude and when i went back to the counter to get the label, he made me spell out every. single. letter. of. every. word. in. each. address. You think a guy would know how to spell "New York". I swear he even made me repeat myself simply to annoy me. Also have to mention that he wasn't even wearing a mask and there was no plastic protector between himself and other customers. Obviously I won't be going back because I live so far, but seriously thank god for that. I walk in to return my Comcast boxes. The new people there don't know how to accept returns. (Without a receipt you are still responsible for the boxes.) They say the guy who does that will be back in a hour maybe two. That means he's gone home for the day. I can smell bs a mile away. Far less than helpful. Went to ship several large boxes to Canada. Gave me the wrong forms - would have had me pay customs on all the items as if I were selling them, rather than shipping for my own personal use. When I suggested that these were likely not the right forms, they said they couldn't help me. Found the right forms on the UPS website, and they said they would not process them - that I would have to drive to the Springfield Customer Service Center. Instead I went to the UPS desk at Staples. They were familiar with the process and very helpful. Strange that the "UPS Store" knows less about, and far more significantly, less interested in knowing about their own shipping procedures than Staples is. read more

Like many others who have submitted reviews, I also have encountered the curt manner of the man who works here. Every single time. No doubt that people-skills is not his area of strength. But the packages get shipped reliably and on time. Since that's the primary reason I come here, not to have a pleasant social interaction, I'm giving my rating of "solid 3". If I needed some help with a difficult shipping issue, however, I would be hesitant to go to this location. I had the best experience with Bianca at the UPS store. I was flying in just as they were closing and she was so courteous and helpful. I knew she wanted to go home but she knew how important it was for me to complete my task. Bianca is the finest example of a person who loves her job and loves helping her clients!
