I got a spray tan from Stephanie at Sunrise Glo Spray Tans (she has a space inside the Upper Hand Spa) and she did a beautiful job! I asked for a sunkissed look and she nailed it. I had the best salon experience of my life at the upper hand! First, I want to note that the ambiance of the salon is VERY therapeutic! So soothing and relaxing. I almost fell asleep during service! All of the staff there is very welcome and always have a smile! They took time to acknowledge me and engage. I am so impressed! I had a transforming pedicure with Katie. I went in with ugly toes and she fixed them right up! Just in time for my river vacation! It's been about a week and half and my feet are still very soft! She absolutely worked wonders, as years of being in the kitchen and in shoes caused damage to my toenails. I finally have toes I like to show off and I'm back to wearing sandals! This salon was very nice in appearance and employees, that was definitely it's strength. I came for a Pedicure and foot massage. The ambience was so nice and private, it was like a true spa experience. The employees that attended to me were also very nice and the massage was great. I couldn't give it 5 stars though because the main reason I came in was for the Pedicure and the actual Pedicure was kind of sloppy. You could see uneven applications and it chipped fairly easily over time, which I have not experienced very often with pedicures. As much as I enjoyed the ambiance I would not go back for a service like this. I think it may be better for massages but the nail salon part wasn't done very well in my opinion. read more

My first time here. This is an excellent spot to get a pedicure. Vennetta is an absolute gem! She is very knowledgeable about the feet. My callous was a nightmare when i walked in & Vennetta made my feet feel like a baby! I almost fell asleep like a baby too! I definitely enjoyed my first 2 waxing visits with Jessica. She explained everything very well, she was very nice and got me through both visits without pain. I had set up my appointments with her every 4 weeks. My 3rd appointment was coming up and I noticed it wasn't her name next to it. I called in, they said she wasn't available but spoke highly of the other girl. I agreed and came into my visit. It was not pleasant at all. She stayed in the room when I got undressed which was weird. She spoke maybe 2 words throughout the entire appointment. After my appointment, my hair grew back within 3 days, which that never happened before. I blew almost $70 for nothing. My next appointments, the names kept changing, I finally called again and said Jessica has limited availability or she left, they were not clear. I decided not to go back. read more

I hoped that this salon might be a hidden gem, but found it to be lacking the professional standards expected at any salon. My experience resulted in painful damage to my nails that will take months to grow out. I booked a bio-gel manicure and was surprised when the technician pulled out a drill tool used for traditional gels. I explained that it wasn't necessary, but she used it on my forefinger, promptly taking off the top of my natural nail and leaving a significant and painful divot in the center of it. I spent the remainder of the removal talking her through the soak-off steps - there was clearly no training on how to work with this popular and common type of gel, despite the salon presenting this as a service they offer. The technician was very apologetic and admitted she'd never worked with bio-gels before... she was also reading a document that explained the steps included in the general manicure process. Removal and repainting took two hours. Overall, I was surprised and disappointed that the salon management would have booked me for this service without having a trained technician, and that they don't appear to invest in training for their technicians, especially for services they claim to offer. I never leave reviews but felt compelled to warn others... I hope this business invests in training for their nail technicians in the future to prevent this entirely avoidable damage and discomfort for other clients. read more

Maria was my stylist and I had a great experience with her. She cut my hair and my son's hair on the same day and we were very satisfied. When she told me she had previously worked in an Aveda salon I was stoked because I know the level of education hairdressers receive there. I was also relieved because I knew I was in good hands. Maria looked at every single Pinterest picture I had on pixie cuts and asked several pointed and detailed questions on what I wanted. You know with hair how sometimes you don't know what you want? Well she figured that part out too. I've had pedicures with Lisa Sivak before and they have also been wonderful. When I was experiencing that dreadful moment when you know it's time to leave your old hairdresser for too many good reasons, I walked into UH and asked who would be willing to take me on. Lisa nodded her head to Maria, who was taking a purple haired beauty to platinum, and I knew she could handle me. Anyway, Maria is not only what I would call a methodical workhorse with a chill yourself out demeanor, she also was all about the business of making my hair the way I want it. Although I think it's important to vibe with your stylist and like their personality, I was actually relieved Maria is more of the quiet type who doesn't feel the need to fill space with chatter. I also really appreciated that her chair is tucked away in the corner, and there's a lot of privacy. To top it all off, the other stylists were kind and checked in with me and tried their best for me to relax, which isn't necessary, but sure made me feel as if I was an interesting newcomer and not an unknown outsider. As I was walking out the door, the stylist at the first chair said my cut was "magazine worthy", which of course made me beam ear to ear. If you are thinking of switching stylists or just can't make it to your old one, then this is the right place to go. Lisa can make the right match for you, so just give her a holler. Thanks for taking me in Upper Hand. It was nice to be treated so well, be listened to, have the service I need, and walk out with a bounce in my step.
