This is my first yelp review and it's only because this place is absolutely terrible. My table had to flag down three different servers for them to tell us they were all too busy to take our orders. I have visited this bar a few times in the past couple of years, and the experience is always just ok---until this visit. I went out for a couple with a gf and used my credit card to open a tab. BIG MISTAKE! They have a new policy they run your card when you first give it to them for $20 to make sure the card is good, and then they run for your total at the end when you close your tab. I had no clue about this policy until I called to talk to the manager the next day when I noticed two charges and it just so happened my friends total was $20 and she paid in cash. They proceeded to tell me this is something they have to do to avoid open checks at the end of the night and the bar maids having to pay for open tabs. I waited unill Tues. and yes indeed the $20 did drop off of my account, only for it to be on hold again today Wed. for $20---so once again I have to call to find out why this is happening again, and I haven't been back since Friday. BUYER BEWARE---I will NEVER use a credit card here. OH YEAH! FEMALES beware the barmaids on the deck make sure to go for the guys to serve them and look past us. I was on the deck with my friend for about 15 mins. before we finally got the attention of a barmaid--a couple sat at the same picnic table as us and a barmaid came to them twice without saying a word to us......SAD but true--and not the first time I have expereienced this here. read more

Ok, but not great. We came here after taking a pontoon cruise around the lakes. We must have picked just the right time because we were warned by others that the service here is terribly slow. That was not the case for us, but we were here about 5pm. There was a band setting up their equipment, but they didn't play while we were there so I can't attest to the loudness this time, but we have sat at the place across the channel and the music was overpowering from even that distance. There is plenty of seating inside and out, but choose carefully to avoid the sun if you choose one of the decks outside. There are 3 levels of deck and we were on the lowest level in the sun. Most tables have an umbrella so we had to move around to get in the shade of the umbrella. Inside is dark and over air-conditioned. The food was good -- typical bar food quality -- with lots of selections. We started with a beer and a mixed drink and the drink was pretty weak. We had a burger and a wrap and both were large servings. We also ordered sides of coleslaw and bean salad and each came in a tiny plastic cup. The slaw was good but the beans salad was just kidney beans and celery in a creamy ranch dill dressing. My wrap came with a chipotle sauce which I asked to be exchanged for mayo. I asked twice after it was brought for the mayo and never got it. Also the avocado was hard and crunchy. Surely the person cutting into that avocado could tell it was not ripe. It wasn't a horrible experience, but we probably won't come here again. read more

Since Danos burnt down this has been our latest hangout. Beer is priced alright, no $7 yeunglings like some places. Lots of space inside and out. Great views. Friendly staff. Weekday nights be prepared to chill with the older crowd and weekends the 21 year Olds. read more

Can't beat the view from the doc, service was a little on the slow side the food was ok typical bar food.

This is a really nice restaurant!! We sat by the lake and it was really nice. I got the chicken club sandwich and it was delicious!! Under new management and it's not a good thing. Great service because it is the same wonderful bartenders who treat you like family. Tip them well. Beyond the serving staff the employees have no idea what working on the portage lakes is like. They are in for a rude awakening when the regulars do not return for the Winter season because of how they were treated during the summer. You work on the lake and at a bar, realize that. read more

Fantastic during the summer time as they have a HUGE patio overlooking the Portage Lakes. The Upper Deck may be the dirtiest bar on the lakes, but they have relatively cheap drinks, so it makes for a good ole' drunken redneck time yelling at the patrons over at Dietz's. read more

Portage lakes is one of the best hidden gems in Ohio and the upper deck is a fantastic spot to hang out for all ages.

I cannot go on Friday nights. It is just a really weird crowd. The layout is terrible. You can barely get around without spilling your drink and that's not even because there's that many people. The only reason you would want to come here is if you're underage. read more

When I first walked in, I was skeptical, but once I found a place to sit the wait staff was most gracious and attentive to my every need. I ordered a Decker burger that, in every meaning of the word, was delectable. This place is awesome and friendly at the same time. What fun! We spent the day renting a pontoon to fish and swim Portage Lakes, and decided to stop here for lunch. We sat on the deck overlooking the lake, and our girls were thrilled with their first "bar" experience. It's a neat little place, and the food was quite good. Our waitress was very good, also. Loved it! Was here for a softball tournament and went back 3 times. The prices are great and the view is relaxing. Loved the bar on the lower deck. We had the steak dinner special for about $11 and enjoyed it. We tried the wings, as well as some other appetizers, and liked them all. Very satisfied. :-) read more

The food is over priced and the service was horrible. Our entres took a half an hour and we ordered a salad and a grilled chicken wrap. The people around us acknowledged this fact because they ordered after us received their food long before we did. That's not what got me. What made it horrible is that both managers on call proceeded to insult my intelligence. Lisa and Marissa both told me that 30 minutes is standard. They told me maybe I wasn't from around here and tried to compare themselves to fort Lauderdale (that was Lisa). Not only that but she asked me what I did for a living.... WTF does that have to do with anything. Just the most insulting defensive and offensive line of questioning I could ever imagine. Lisa almost walked away from my table while I was talking and I was very calm and collective so there was absolutely no reason for that. I thought Marissa had bad customer service but Lisa took it to a new level. Insulting and offensive to fort Lauderdale. I really have to wonder if it was something about me personally. When you repeatedly assume I'm not a local and then have the nerve to ask my occupation i can't help but think it was my skin colour. I never play that card ever but i can't understand and nothing else makes sense. Those managers need training and possibly fired. When is this ever acceptable for a managers. read more

Menu on yelp says breakfast Saturday and Sunday 8-12. I am here Saturday at 10:30a and they say they don't have breakfast.

Food is above average, but not super. Will eat there if I'm in the area, but not worth a half hour drive.

This place is overrated. It's pricey which I wouldn't mind because the atmosphere is nice. It's located right on the water and overlooks the harbor. However, our food was average to below average. We ordered the blue chips for an appetizer. The chips are deep fried but cold. If the chip had been warm and fresh this might have been a good appetizer. We all ordered the special which was Fillet Medallions. They flavor was good but was served lukewarm. It had obviously been sitting for awhile. Our server Erin seemed confused at times. My daughter ordered a Moscow Mule Special. She was not given the complimentary cup. When we asked about it, Erin didn't know about the special. When pushed, she didn't ask my daughter about the extra upcharge. She just charged her credit card without my daughter's permission. There was no confirmation receipt and Erin got a bit snippy about the whole thing. This added a lot of stress to our meal that we feel was unnecessary. read more

My first impression of The Upper Deck was fairly good. I was pumped to be on the water--I'm a huge water bug. Walking into the door though, I didn't get the sense we were actually welcome. About 5 people turned to look at who walked in, staff included, but no one said a word to us. We didn't know if we should seat ourselves, or how to get to the patio..a little direction would have been nice..or just a friendly "hey ya'll, sit wherever you'd like", or something of the like. Our poor server seemed to be the only one working..she was literally running her butt off to tend the bar, and wait tables. The burger---so freking good! Good as in, hole in the wall, off the beaten path,good. I ate the whole double pattied thing! Would be a 5 star if not for the awkward start to our lunch. Great atmosphere. We've eaten here a few times and the food has always been mediocre. I ordered the special that day which was Crab Cake sandwich but before I ordered it it I asked the Bartender for her recommendation and if it was more breading than crab and she was emphatic that it was mostly crab so we ordered. It turned out to be mostly breading and had a horrible taste. I had it pushed to the side when she asked how everything was and then I let her know that it was not very good and mostly breading. She then sympathized and walked away. Lol. When then decided to go next door to eat and asked for the check she offered to discount the sandwich. They gave me half off. We also ordered the clam chowder and it was very watery but tasty. After 4 times eating there I would not recommend it as there are so many great restaurants but if you want a drink from with a cool view, this is your place. read more

I was there twice, overall the setting is good in the summer, and a ++ for the band that was playing ""BUCK NAKED BAND"" but I am going to tell you, that place needs some serious cleaning, as I was walking up stairs I couldn't beleive the trash under the steps, and surrounding area, this place is really filthy.they need to call in a serious cleaning crew for outside area. My favorite spot on to go to on The Portage Lakes. Great food, great staff, great drinks, at a good price.

Have been here several times. Great atmosphere, fun place to tie up your boat if you are out on the lake. However, every time we have been here the kitchen has been really slow. Yesterday, it took 60 minutes for us to receive an order of nachos. The servers looked overwhelmed and tried their best to keep up with customers. We overheard servers discussing who was serving which table. I had the impression the tables may not have been assigned. I would suggest assigning tables to help speed up the service and help out your staff. Food is typical bar food. Tastes great when you are out on the lake! read more

This was our second time visiting the upper deck. We went a couple months ago and had awful service and my credit card was charged for multiple peoples orders. The waitress was rude and just an overall bad experience. The owner wrote to me and offered me a 50$ gift card to make things right, which was great. We don't live in the area so we werent able to make it back until a couple days ago. As soon as we arrived we showed our waitress and the manager the email. They then allowed us to order our drinks, appetizer and dinner. At the end of our meal, the general manager marissa came over and told us she couldn't get ahold of the owner and that we would have to pay our bill. After being told we had a 50$ gift card waiting for us. My fiancé was super upset and told her how unfair that was and what ever happen to customer service. She then proceeds to grab our bill and throw it in our face. Yells at us to get out of the restaurant and never come back. The whole scenario was awful, unfair, rude, embarrassing and we will never go back. I have never been treated so poorly. read more

Unfortunately I had horrible customer service from bartender. Went to have lunch and it was kinda busy, no problem. But when my food came and there was a long hair inside my chicken wrap she grab it from me without a word, comes back 2 mins later and tells me that the owner Lisa said it was OK because the hair was on the plate not my food and hands it back to me. Unbelievable, what poor customer service!! It was in my food but the fact is she expected me to eat and pay for it. Never going back. I'll give my business to someone else. read more

i went in at 5 and it was dead. sat at a table and asked fir a bud light that was on special and was brought a bud light bottle when the special was draft. after she brought drinks i asked for a menu to order food. after waiting 15 minutes for a menu and still not brought one i left. the waitress was talking to people at the bar when there was someone else tending to it and a third full. will never go back. read more
