I'd only ever heard whispers of this place. Didn't even know where it was. Driving through a sleepy neighborhood and boom there it was. It reminds me of one of these places you find while you are on vacation. We had lunch this Friday out back overlooking the water. The view is fantastic. It wasn't really that busy as it had just opened. Our server was friendly and quick. The burgers and fries were good, I wouldn't say excellent, whatever is right below that. If you've never been, check it out. I'll eat here again and explore the menu more deeply. read more

Used to have really good vegetarian options, won't do their garlic grilled cheese again, replaced their black bean burger with a synthetic beef one. I guess this year our group is going elsewhere. read more

A very comfortable lakeside neighborhood bar with good burgers, salads and appetizers as well as an array of other sandwiches. A good selection of draft beer as well as many bottled imports and crafts. We always make this a stop in the boat, and it is the least expensive of any of the Lakes bars. Great staff that takes the time to get to know you. Love it here! read more

View was great!! So two of the five stars were given because the view was perfect. That was all that was perfect. Took about twenty minutes for a waitress to come over. The waitress suggested the mushroom Swiss burger which two people at our table ordered. Was mostly bun and canned mushrooms...would not order again. The dano punch was tasty. Sorry I don't have much good to say!! read more

Went with a group from church on Sunday at noon. Service was slow to start. Then got better when early rush started to clear. One of our group never got their lunch. Whaaa? Food was ok. Not great. Many at our table didn't have much good to say about food. Atmosphere is great. Drinks and apps were good. Not sure we'll be back until some 5-star reviews. read more

Great, and I mean great employees. Dano himself regularly greets customers and checks on their satisfaction. Lakeside is accurate as it is nestled on the Portage Lakes waterfront. Good drink selection, and great daily specials. The burgers are great, but the buns fall apart as soon as you pick them up. Warm weather is all about the patio and picnic tables. They do have an interior bar as well and they have flat screens everywhere. They also boast the best boat docks of all of the restaurants on PLX. Dano is the most involved owner I've ever encountered. The parking lot is cramped and situated on narrow or one way streets. Can be difficult to navigate on crowded days or after dark. When you get there, park with the intention to get out easily. You'll see what I mean when you get there. Definitely a great place on a nice day or to watch a game. read more

Great spot on the lake to stop for food and drink. Beautiful view of Turkeyfoot Lake. Staff is curtious, they even have staff to help you park your boat and food is good. I have had several menu items and have never been disappointed. As long as your expectations aren't too high. I will never come to the lake without stopping at Dano's at some point. read more

after seeing all the great reviews we decided to go to Dano's. first the good parts. The patio was awesome overlooking the lake. service was friendly and prompt. We did not order any drinks so no comment on them. The french fries were very good. But, The sandwiches were terrible. I had a $11 spicy burger that the hamburger was dry and gray colored. there was no indication that it was grilled or fried? When I picked up the burger the bun crumbled and broke apart. very unappetizing. My wife had the Dano's deli combo. It was about 6 very thin pieces of lunch meat with some cheese on a hamburger bun for $12. The bun was crumbly as well. Our expectations were high for Dano's but they did not deliver. I did ask for a manager but was told that Dan was not available. This a great venue to have a cold drink and sit by the lake but I would never order food. Very disappointed. read more

Great place on the water. We were a party of 4 came in at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. It's a seat yourself type and there was quite a bit of people but a lot of room for seating. Our waitress came right over and gave us recommendations for drinks and food. The specialty cocktails were very good! We all ordered a different type of sandwich. Chicken salad, tuna salad, pulled pork and chicken philly. The food came out pretty fast and the sandwiches were good size helpings. We got a couple sides of coleslaw that were served in sauce cups not big enough for a side. The French fries the sandwiches are served with are great! The place was clean and very friendly staff. Wonderful service and such a nice atmosphere for dining on the lake. Didn't have to wait for anything - had drinks within seconds of sitting down and everything else followed. Typical pub grub kind of food, but everything was delicious. I can't wait to go back. Dano does such a good job with his staff - so impressed! read more

Great drink selection, both best and liquor, something sure to suit anyone. Great food menu also sure to be something on there even for the pickiest eater. I got the fish sandwich with fries and it was incredible. Delicious fish cooked perfectly and fries nice and crispy. Definitely a stop I make every time I'm out on the lake. read more

Dano's has been a favorite on the lake for a very long time- Kudos for Dano with his "cheers" personality- "where everybody knows your name; always happy to see you! The menu offers good choices with prices as well. There is plenty of room outside to enjoy the lake and music when available, The interior has been nicely remodeled for those who prefer inside and for imclement weather! read more

We visited today with our three boys. The live music was fantastic! Service was great. Someone on staff - maybe the owner?.. gave our boys popsicles. It was the sweetest. Our boys loved catching fish in front of the restaurant while my husband and I took in the awesome atmosphere. We will be back! read more

Nice atmosphere for a lake bar. Chicken philly and burgers are good. Philly cheesteak is more of a roast beef sandwitch. Cheap Buns on 3 of our 4 sandwiches fell apart the last two times I was there. Has potential but kitchen needs some work. Plastic utensils and cups. read more

Started in 1991 and was at the same location until 2015 when a fire destroyed the building. Opened up at a new place on the lake in 2018 serving our well known burgers.

Dano has been in the bar business for 30 years. He is well know in the lakes for running a top notch pub. He is the unofficial mayor of Portage Lakes due to his giving back to the community.

We sat down at a booth and realized was a small table sign with a QR code for the food and drink menu. Below the codes is a small line of text that explains to go to the Cult Kitchen window for food and go to the bar for drinks. This isn't necessarily a bad setup, just had to adjust our mindset as it's more casual and in line with a food truck experience. ...like going up to the window more ketchup (it's in little lidded containers) for all those fries ...and cleaning up after yourself, as there is no one busing tables. Again, the food was very good but the overall experience was just lacking. It seems like it could be something really special if the hospitality and service was there!

Place has about 10 (?) tables/booths and then folks sitting around the bar at the brewery side. I imagine on a popular day of the week (we went mid week before the dinner time rush) it could get crowded and loud. Feel of the place is grunge/biker though clean and well kept and without feeling 'theme restaurant'. I would say it has its only unique personality. Had we been more prepared from the restaurant's website for what the place was we might have more enjoyed things. It's just feels more 'out drinking and getting the nibbles' than a destination meal.
