The hotel and restaurant recently opened under new management after years of being shuttered and has proven to be a wonderful addition to the town. The venue is beautifully restored and the owners have developed a menu to accommodate most tastes, including their own delicious grass fed beef. Prices are reasonable. They have a nice wine and beer list and several bars upstairs and down in a pub setting. Service is cheerful and attentive. Definitely worth a stop, whether you are a local or only traveling through the area. read more

This was our third visit to the Union and it just keeps getting better. Our server, Erica, was friendly, attentive and efficient. Our entrees we're delicious. The ravioli with short ribs and mushroom sauce was balanced and savory and the parmesan and garlic shrimp linguine with oven roasted tomatoes was flavorful without being heavy. We can't wait to go back for a meal on the deck and live music. The Union is a wonderful addition to Bedford county. read more

What an experience. The Union Hotel is nestled in the town of Everett which a neighboring town of Bedford, Pennsylvania. I was put up in this hotel for work due to a conference I was attending there. Anytime I stay somewhere I have to look at the Web site and it's actually a pretty interesting building. It has been totally restored (from when I don't know). The owners have ties to the marble and lime industries so the bathrooms are done quite nicely in marble. Overall before arriving I figured I'd be staying a quaint hotel and I was correct. When you check in everything pretty much is done on paper. One interesting fact about the hotel is there are only 10 rooms. You get an actual room key, not a key card. The front door of the hotel locks which you must use the room key to enter. It locks early so be prepared. There is a restaurant and bar in the first level and the rooms are on the next two. The rooms were nicely sized and the bathrooms were enormous. I will say it was pretty noisy at night. For only having ten rooms in it the only thing I could associate it with is ghosts. I figured this place was old and I believe there may have been a fire so I just assumed someone died in the building. Needless to say I did not check to see what the noise was from. Being an older establishment there was no central air, but rather, a wall unit was placed in the room. At first I was very nervous but the room stayed very comfortable. Honestly I really don't know when I'd ever be back in that area, but I would have no problem staying there again. It has everything you need. If you're staying in Bedford you're not looking for a 5 star hotel or you'd be at Bedford Springs Resort. The Union Hotel has every necessity and no unnecessary frills. read more

I'm giving the Union Hotel Restaurant in Everett, PA 3 stars. The first 2 times , the food was excellent, primo even, but the 3rd time it was disgusting and service was horrific. So, I don't know if it's a hit and miss type of thing or if it is a failing enterprise, just wanted to make people aware of that. I had the shrimp tempura sushi and the shrimp was not fried, but the entire sushi roll was dipped in batter and fried (burnt) in bad oil. Yuck! My husbands steak was tough and full of connective tissue, potatoes were dripping with grease. The service was very slow. Most people were waiting over an hour and a half to two hours for food. I felt very sorry for the one couple with a baby, who probably wasted their first night out as parents. The owner was helping out and she had to know how very bad it was, but she was not at all apologetic. That is what got me. I know its not the restaurants fault for this but there were 2 really unpleasant girls in the restroom, yelling at each other and into their phones. They were there for the "open mic" night at the bar downstairs. We've also gone there a couple of times to find the restaurant was just randomly closed. I don't think I will be going back any time soon..... It's disappointing because we were really looking forward to going there regularly now that the 10/09 is closed. read more

New restaurant open about 3-4 months before going. Ordered chicken dinner with baked potatoe and California medley. chicken was ok, cold to still frozen veggies, impossible to explain the baked potato. It was sliced in the center had to be microwaved as the potatoe where sliced was impossible to cut through,then I think they chard it on the grill to dry the skin. Worst potatoe ever! Steak sandwich? Still trying to identify the meat besides grill scrapings. Would not recommend read more

Worst food and service ever. Highly disappointed in the quality of the food with the prices, along with the lack of kid friendly choices. My ranch with my salad was also watery and I told my server about it and nothing was done. Will never be back. read more

My wife and I were returning home and were looking for a place to stay. After a search, we came across the Union Hotel and we booked our reservations on-line. The deadline for check-in was 9pm, and due to weather and traffic we arrived at 9:20. We called ahead to let them know we would be a little late for check-in and we were told that would be no problem. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating, and we were looking forward to the free breakfast in the morning before hitting the road. The room was beyond expectations, very clean with a nice layout, but freezing cold. It took about an hour for the wall unit to heat the room to a somewhat comfortable temperature. Now, I will begin this by saying, I have been skeptical of people claiming something to be haunted, but I can say that without a doubt both my wife and I had the strangest night of our lives. I won't go into all the details, but between the bed shaking, the loud footsteps, the feeling of being watched, groans, thumps, and the many other things that occurred. We were consistently being woken up every 15 to 45 minutes, which made sleep impossible. Neither my wife nor I are light sleepers, but this was beyond belief. Never have either of us experienced anything like this before. We couldn't take it any longer and quickly gathered our things and left at 3:00am. Oh, and when we reached the parking lot it was completely empty, which means we were the only guests they had that night. While I hate to finish with this, I am convinced this place is haunted. After we left my wife read the history of the hotel and it made a lot of sense in retrospect. read more

This bed and breakfast is in a well maintained historical building. Wooden floors, historic local photos, and a pressed tin ceiling decorate the main dining room. The room we stayed in was not very large, but it had everything we needed (iron, ironing board, coffee maker, coffee, wireless). The bathrooms have beautifully updated fixtures and granite tile. The only complaint is that breakfast is available only from 9 to 10 am, which is not convenient if you are an early riser. The breakfast itself was delicious, but is made to order so expect to wait for 10 or 15 minutes. I especially liked the hash browns. You can tell they were home made and not sitting around under a heat lamp all morning, I found the staff to be very pleasant. I have stayed here twice. The price is excellent, especially considering the quality of the room. read more

Great hotel. Am on the way to Pittsburgh. Did a Yelp search, and chose the Union for a quick overnight. Very nice staff (front desk and bar), good bar food (flatbread with anything you want on it), fantastic beer selection, updated extremely clean room, and a beautiful marble bathroom. Don't let the crazy review about ghosts scare you off. They must have been on some bad drugs. For the price, this is a wonderful little hotel! And... This is the first time I've ever left a Yelp post, but I wanted you to know about this gem!! read more

Here we have had a few very fine meals; one truly outstanding 2 fish dinner; and a couple of terrible meals. When 1st opened their very lightly breaded shrimp were truly outstanding, but recently served as golf ball size blobs of dough w/ small shrimp inside. Their special Thanksgiving buffet was tasty but COKLD, not well heated! Prime rib has been good, but also pretty poor on other occasions; ditto w/ steaks. Generous portions. Huge salad; all one can eat soups [especially great noodle soup & also stiffed pepper soup]. Spaghetti sauce is way too sweet to please us. read more

We have family up in Bedford, so a few times every year we head up for a taste of La Vie Country. We stayed here for the past two nights, and I am so happy my fiancé gave in to me :) (He's content with a quality inn, but I do like the finer things and had wanted to stay here for a while) This is a _gorgeous_ hotel with a B&B feel (or is it vice versa? The mystery adds to the charm) Lots of history here, built in 1808 or so....renovated with amazing hard wood floors, marble throughout, _the_ most comfortable bed we've slept in in a very long time ("it feels like I'm sleeping on a cloud"). In 80+ degree humidity the window AC units (which, when I read previous reviews, I was a little skeptical of), kept it nice and crypt-like for us to get amazing sleep. _Maybe_ it was a little loud, but we are used to window units. Also, we heard nothing else of ongoings elsewhere in the facility. Complimentary breakfast was delicious; scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries, coffee, served in the first floor dining area "Bambinos." Lots and lots of old, historical pictures hanging throughout. The bar as you enter the structure is amazing, in my opinion...and what a bar should look like. Old timey barber chairs hang out in the lounge as well. Downstairs they have a tavern/restaurant where they have the same menu as the upstairs. Which, everything looked great on it. Last night I chose the bottomless fish and chips with endless house salad. Both of which...yum yum yum. They have pastas, prime rib, lots and lots of local-ish microbrews, and all kinds of other epicurean delights that I will be ready to try on our return trips back here. I get the impression that this may be the only happening/night life-y spot in town...seems like a lot of people come here for dinner and a stop over at the tavern. We booked this room on hotels.com, and while it may seem pricey for the area, it was only $10 more/night than the Bedford Quality Inn. For those $10...heck, even if it was $20 or $30 more, it's worth it. We stayed in the basic, double bed room...and it was lovely. They do lock the outside doors...I think at 9pm on weeknights and 12am on weekends, but you can get in and out through the tavern as long as they're open. Not sure real late check ins are an option, but if you're already a guest and get trapped out the information card says the Everett(/Mayberry) PD has a key. All of the staff we had encounters with were super friendly and helpful. The locals we encountered in the tavern, if they weren't super friendly they were at least entertaining ;) Go here for dinner, stay a few nights, whatever. But definitely support this local business...it's a gem. We will be back, for sure. read more

My wife and I went to the union to eat breakfast before she left town for the week. After we were sat, there were two couples that came in several minutes after us, they were also served several minutes before us. Just as we were about to walk out, our food came out. By this time the food was quite cold. I had ordered pancakes, eggs sunny side up, and sausage. The pancakes were stiff and hard, and could be picked up from the edge. The sausage seemed to be some sort of cheap microwave sausage, and the eggs came out over easy. When i did cut into the eggs, clear liquid came out because they were so uncooked. I ate one bite of pancake and that was it. After being given our check and asked how every thing was, I told the waiter the problem with the food and said that it was the worst breakfast that I had ever had, he just walked away. I have went to the Union three times now, and either had not gotten what I had ordered, had bad service, or bad food. The first time that I went in, everyone in the dining area could hear one of the kitchen staff talking about how bad another member of the kitchen staff's feet smelt. For trying to be a classy, or high brow resteraunt, the Union is probably the worst resturaunt in Everett, I suggest going to Kelly's or the Corral, at least the eggs will be cooked. read more
