A great little restaurant in downtown Bedford with tons of history! I visited for a Saturday lunch with family recently and we were sat right away in the upstairs dining area. We found out after that there's also more casual seating downstairs. There were lots of Lenten specials, and we enjoyed trying the various appetizers. I really liked the general tso cauliflower, it had great flavor and was a really generous portion! My only feedback is regarding the loaded tots. We ordered the pulled pork on the side since I'm vegetarian, and while it came on the side, the kitchen added ground beef into the mix even though that wasn't even in the list of toppings. Very confusing and disappointing since I discovered it after we had all dug in. read more

The check in process was kind of loose, but this, and does feel like, an old Inn. There is plenty of parking in the back of the place so that should work well for your stay here. The beer bottle tiki torches are a nice touch leading out to the parking lot and so is the flower garden. Food is available here though I did not visit the restaurant. I did, however, visit the pub under the Inn which is accessible from the outside as well. The pub might be tiny, but it is definitely worth a visit. The rooms are cozy. The shower is a bit of a challenge, at least in the Addison room. I think the biggest challenge you might have for the warmer season is the fact you don't have any thermostat control within the room itself. A person from the Inn seemed to be able to make it more cool when asked, but this one point alone was a reason to not make it to five stars. read more

I've done a considerable amount of traveling and have written countless reviews. I've never been one to focus on poor service as the primary reason to criticize a restaurant, so when I do, it usually means that the server was so rude that it warrants comment. In this case our "server" happened to be the owner of the pub. He also was doubling as bartender. I won't go into great detail, other than to suggest that this guy could not have cared less about pleasantly engaging the patrons of his establishment (or at least this patron). Not that I ever have much reason to go to Bedford, PA, but would never return to this place if I did. read more

I went here at the recommendation of the brewer at Olde Bedford. I owe that guy big time! Walked in and saw 10 year Pappy. Went to the downstairs bar where I found 12 and 20! Year Pappy Van Winkle. For dinner I had the Berliner burger and it was amazing. read more

My sisters and I love the quaint town of Bedford. It is a central meeting ground for us and our husbands. We always stay at the Golden Eagle Inn... we love the history of the inn. It is like stepping back into time. We love the tavern on the bottom floor...the food is excellent and the staff are wonderful. * This place would easily have gotten all stars if one occurrence didn't happen.* Called ahead without having to. Let staff know that it would be two guests for dining and it would be later past 7:45. Staff let us know it should be fine upon arrival; no need for reservations. Walked in,(love Huge door) hostess (female) was obviously having a bad day. In my opinion, a hostess is to persuade you and make you feel comfortable on where you're sitting. This didn't happen. After finally being seated in an obviously open area, even though we were deterred from it, everything went fine. THe bar tender made a great cape cod with kettle one and extra lime served in a cute glass. I was very happy with the buffalo chicken won ton app; maybe 2 more would've been good. I was extremely hungry and couldn't choose because there were a lot of options, only thing that stinks is that EVERY WHERE WE GO there's MUSHROOMS in EVERYTHING. I know they season things and its for taste, but man. Anyhow, I got the Tuna Steak special. It came atop a summer salad or mixed grapes tomatoes, salad, avocado and more. Talk about good!! For dessert, it was easy to choose. Nutella Banana Cheesecake. Although a big slice, it was eaten. One more lump of nutella could be a game changer! My friend and myself meet here every 6 months or so and spend multiple hours catching up with food and drinks. We usually have a great time. Sparing no cost and spending a lot of $$. On this particular day we arrived at 1 pm and left around 6:15. We were approached by a woman who wasn't our server (but had been in the restaurant the whole time we were there) at around 5:30, telling us to stop cursing in our conversation. I didn't realize my conversation with my table guest could be heard by anyone else. Fair enough. We curbed our language but continued catching up with each other. About 30 mins later she came back to our table and told us we needed to leave. Her tone was not warm and she was obviously very annoyed. It was obvious that our laughter had sent her to our table. We were not spilling drinks, we were not moving about the restaurant, and we were not moving around erratically and we were not causing people to even look up from their plates at us. We were enjoying our time. In the 5 hours, we each had a soup, shared an appetizer and each had an entree. We each had maybe 6 drinks. Very far cry from being over aroused due to intoxication. We each spent about $90-100 and tipped $20. To be treated like this at the very end of our meal after spending hundreds of dollars in this establishment is out of line. I have worked in the service industry for 15 years waitressing and bartending and have NEVER told anyone to leave for having an appropriate good time (no screaming, falling, spilling, moving about the restaurant, disrupting other customers). We were simply laughing when the woman came over and told us we had to leave. So if you plan on actually having a good time/ chatting during your meal, you have been warned. read more

It's that time of life when just about everyone I know is getting married. This means lots of trips to places I've maybe never been before, which keeps things interesting. A recent wedding took us to the town of Bedford, Pennsylvania, about two hours from Pittsburgh. When I saw the price tag for a two night stay at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort where it was all going down, I was less than enthused. I did a quick search for places to stay in downtown Bedford instead and Golden Eagle Inn seemed like a great choice! When all is said and done, I'm so happy we made that decision. It's a B&B and when you book online, there are great descriptions of each room and rate, so you can book whichever you'd like. We landed in the Juliana which was on the fourth floor (no elevator, so prepare to climb!). Despite the old timey nature of the room, the bed was rather comfy and bathroom appliances up to date. Not to mention, upon checking in, we were given an ice bucket of water bottles and locally made caramel corn. Score! The walls are rather thin so we did struggle a bit one night/morning when a group of girls were rather loud, but what can you expect from a structure built in the late 1700s? Complimentary and hot breakfast was served from 8:00 am - 9:30 am each morning. They asked if we had dietary restrictions and adjusted the meal accordingly. I eat everything so enjoyed a fruit parfait followed by French toast, locally made sausage, bacon, and a frittata! The next day was chocolate chip pancakes instead of toast which were equally delicious. I really felt like I was in my grandmother's house. We never tried the restaurant for any other meal, but did pop into the pub in the basement one night for a night cap. The menu looked diverse and the food I did see come out looked pretty darn good. It seems like this is a neighborhood favorite not just for travelers, but locals, as well! The location is perfect if you're looking to explore the quaint town of Bedford. There's free parking in a lot around the back. The main door closes at 11:00 pm, but you're given your own key to get in and out at any time of day. Sure, the Omni is fancy schmancy, but Golden Eagle Inn has lots of character that was perfect for our short but sweet stay. read more

Ate here last time we were here but this time of course they are short staffed like everywhere else these days but the staff were rude and very unaccommodating and couldn't handle a party of 4. Which we totally understand buts its all about the delivery of the message. We get everyone is busy and stressed but be nice its not our fault either. read more

Avoid the Golden Eagle In - there are other options available. So we immediately got off to a bad start... we wanted to spend a day in Bedford and selected this bed & breakfast based on reviews; unfortunately, our experience did not start off as expected. We arrived in town a little early, walked around to see the sights, and decided we wanted a drink. We were going to go to the tavern in the basement on the Golden Eagle Inn, saw people eating and drinking, but noticed a sign saying they were closed. We thought perhaps it was only open to guests, we went to the front desk to inquire and was surprisingly greeted with a clearly exasperated employee who rudely blurted, "We're closed! Our computer just went completely down..." I tried to explain that we were guests and his terse response was, "Check-in is not until 3:00pm!" so I gave up trying to engage with him and we walked out. We knew check-in wasn't until 3:00pm and were prepared to wait the additional 30 minutes to do so but we definitely weren't expecting such an unwelcoming reception. Apparently the rude gentleman, Tom, is the owner. We went back at 3:00pm and he was on the phone, apparently trying to coordinate the repair of their computer system, and walked away from us twice in the middle of our check-in process... mid-conversation! At that point, I told him we did not want to patron a hospitality establishment where the owner clearly lacked hospitality! We asked for and we're granted a refund. Cute town but I would definitely recommend you find another place to stay. read more

My husband and I stayed at this lovely inn for 2 nights in November 2021. Tom, one of the owners, runs an excellent establishment. He also bartends in the historic tavern in the basement, where some of George Washington's troops imbibed during the Whiskey Rebellion. (Washington stayed a few doors up at the Espy House.) The inn was very clean and nicely decorated, with many antiques. We had dinner and breakfast here and both were excellent! The General Tso cauliflower is outstanding, and we both enjoyed our very tender flat iron steaks and the sides. Our waitress provided excellent service and was extremely friendly. Tom's motherinlaw was also excellent as our breakfast server, very attentive. Breakfast was very good, especially the French toast which was a unique recipe. The inn is located in the center of downtown Bedford, and was an easy walk to just about any location. Love this historic town and the scenic mountains surrounding it! read more

Potential diners need to be aware that the upstairs restaurant at the Golden Eagle will charge you a 20% cover charge to eat there. It's not mentioned anywhere on the menu and I didn't see any posted signage. After an expensive, barely adequate meal served by our gushing waiter in drag, I received the check with the (unannounced) cover charge. I challenged this 20% with management and was told that's just how it is. Bedford is kind of thin when it comes to good places to eat and frankly, I'd eat at a burger joint before being gouged by this establishment ever again. I can only speak to the brunch menu, and it is really outstanding. The selections are creative--not your boring eggs and bacon--mine had pork belly and unbelievably delicious crispy potatoes. The menu is different every time. The people are friendly and though it's a linen napkin place, it's casual. Beautiful atmosphere too. Just had lunch there today. Great, fresh, courteous as always. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. You will not be served re-heated frozen stuff. It's well thought, well executed food. How about fries in duck fat? Really flavorful! We stayed here for two nights and absolutely loved this place. The room was extremely cozy and clean. The breakfast included in the room package was amazing both days. Everywhere we wanted to go was close by, we ate at 10/09 across the street which was also amazing. We hung out the pub which is owned by the owners of the Inn and it was a blast. Am writing this on behalf of my wife. She stayed two nights in November. She was extremely disappointed. When she arrived she couldn't find anyone to check her in. She went downstairs to the pub and a waitress gave her a key. Then, she had to lug a suitcase up a few flights of stairs. Her room as at the top. The room was freezing to her. The person in an adjoining room had the same complaint. There was no one to be found to address that issue. The person went down to the pub and a waitress came up to adjust the heat. This didn't work. Ultimately the owner was found and he turned on emergency heat. The lack of customer service, and attention to detail made the trip a bummer for her. read more

I really enjoyed the food but the the waiter was a little slow at refilling our drinks. My coffee was more like luke warm. The buffalo chicken wrap was good. It could have used a little more ranch. Had a fantastic meal here. Was initially impressed by the old-fashioned charm of the restaurant, albeit a little nervous that the restaurant was empty at dinner time. Despite the quiet environment, the food was superb. Most of my party got the hanger steak - which was seasoned nicely cooked to perfection - and one chicken piccata -which moist and flavorful. The sides were also delish. After our main dish, we were excited to continue trying their delightful dishes and got the flourless chocolate cake that was one of the best I've ever had. The waitress was very nice although seemed somewhat new to the job. Overall, lovely experience and would certainly go back and recommend to others. read more

My husband and I just left the Golden Eagle Inn Restaurant and can't stop raving about it! Our food was phenomenal...compliments to the chef!! I enjoyed a Chicken Piccata and my husband had the Pork Chop. Both served over mashed potatoes. We had a late reservation, so we weren't surprised that two menu items were not available but the replacement of chicken piccata instead of chicken porchetta was excellent!!! The chicken was breaded perfectly and so tender. My husband's pork chop was nicely done with a bacon Brussels sprout on top. And for dessert, we shared flourless chocolate cake which needs no explanation. Our server was great!! I wish I knew her name to put on this review but I imagine all of the servers are great. Well... that didn't work out. We were traveling and looking ahead for places to eat. The Golden Eagle Inn looked good and had good reviews. We went out of our way, thinking it would be a good choice. We entered through the front door and were pleased to see that there were plenty of tables available. We waited for a few minutes in the hallway because we didn't see any staff to seat us. When a staff person did come out of the kitchen we asked for a table for two... she told us they had been very busy earlier in the day and were trying to get caught up and we could check back in 30 minutes. We were stunned and decided to move on. Once we got back in the car and had time to think about what had just happened we thought we needed to write a review hoping the owner/manager would see it. If you have a lot of open tables why wouldn't you offer them. They were all clean and ready to go. Obviously we just didn't understand and the way the staff person handled the situation leaving us feeling very unwelcome and like serving us would have been a burden. read more

We are staying at the omni and wanted to eat off the grounds for a night. We came here for lunch and my wife had a meatloaf sand which to die for and I had a solid Cuban. We went to the pub last evening. Granted it was a Saturday night. It took 45 minutes to get our drink order. No silverware, no salt and pepper on any of the tables. I had to ask for all of that. I had to continually flag down the waiter for what we needed. Bartender/owner also seemed oblivious to the patrons at the table. Chatting it up with those at the bar. Again, took forever to get our drinks and others at the tables looked equally frustrated. That being said, the food was phenomenal! I will return just for the food. I would advise this place but not if you are in a hurry, particularly on the weekends. read more

This place has been going downhill quick. Ordered two chicken caesar salads for takeout. Got them and no grilled chicken on either one. Sat down to eat our Caesar salads sans chicken and the lettuce was wilted and rubbery. We could not even eat them they were so bad. We arrived at the Inn late in the afternoon on a dark and cloudy day. My gentleman friend and I had driven along the Lincoln Highway and while the fog and mists that shrouded the pines along the road had been hauntingly lovely, we were more than happy to finally arrive in the quaint town of Historic Bedford. The Inn is tucked in along the main street, within easy walking distance of shops, taverns and restaurants. We were excited as we pushed open the large front door and entered the festive front hall of the Inn. It did take a few minutes before we were greeted, as there isn't a clear "front desk" area. The owner of the Inn had been downstairs, tending to the bar, which gave us a chance to poke our heads into the dining area and admire the tall, twinkling Christmas tree. After checking in the owner, Tom, led us up to our room and along the way pointed out the hutch that the morning coffee would be served from, as well as an additional entrance from which we could come and go. We were staying in the Miss Mary Espy room and we were pleased to find that the room was clean and cozy. The small writing desk held some treats for us too; caramel and sea salt popcorn from the local Bedford Candies and a trio of cold bottled waters, as well a host of information about the town and the Inn itself. We relaxed for a few hours before heading out into the town and spending the majority of the evening the Pub downstairs. In the morning I awoke to the scent of freshly brewed coffee and the promise of a complimentary breakfast in the dining room on the main floor. We headed down into the bright, sunny morning and found a sweet little table. I wasn't sure what to expect as there is no menu but I was up for the adventure. We were quickly served juice and water and coffee in china with saucers. A fresh fruit cocktail followed our drinks and it wasn't long before our waitress came out bearing plates of gingerbread pancakes, vegetable frittata, crisp bacon and savory sausages. I enjoyed every single bite of our meal and was as happy as I could be. The Golden Eagle Inn is romantic and full of character. The staff is friendly and attentive and there are easily ten different types of floral wallpaper that are absolutely charming. The only reason I didn't give the Inn five stars is because there were only two pillows and a rather thin blanket on the bed. In the morning we discovered that there were in fact both extra pillows and blankets in the dresser, but it was a little too late as we were headed out the door. Overall though, I highly recommend the Inn and the town of Bedford as a whole! read more

Just returned from an outstanding stay at the Golden Eagle Inn. We came for the Wine Walk and wanted to stay the night. Our room was large and quaint with comfortable beds. We had dinner in the upstairs restaurant and the burger was very good after a long day. Went down to the pub after for a while then up to bed. Breakfast was included with the room. We were expecting a typical buffet breakfast. Instead it was sit down with coffee, juice, fresh fruit, pancakes, sausages, and bacon. One of the best breakfast meals I've had. I highly recommend this inn for a great experience. It was also extremely clean! read more

I have dined at the Golden Eagle Inn for lunch and dinner several times and it is fantastic! I have been to a lot of great restaurants around the US so I definitely know a good restaurant when I see one. The service was wonderful and the owners Tom & Mary Jane were very attentive and check with our table and all the others around us to see how everything was. A strange atmosphere but the food was excellent. Arrived here last Friday night at 7pm 7-15-16, only 2 other tables were occupied. Dining room is quite formal but the other patrons were in t shirts and other casual attire. Good selection of beers and wine, I enjoyed my pinor noir and husband his beer. Waitress was lovely yet clearly is either new or has little experience with food...after several attempts I finally figured out that the special was bison BOLOGNESE, not bison BOUILLABAISSE. "You know...like spaghetti and meatballs." Thankfully it was NOT like spaghetti and meatballs and absolutely delicious.
