The new owners however appear intent on destroying this so its no longer the same Fox we loved. The Houston Inn sits at the top of the road and from the outside has the same old world charm. Inside it is more modern, all wood and leather chairs. For me it doesn't gave the same old world charm that the Fox had but it was growing on me. Price wise it is cheaper than the Fox (£10.40 for two glasses of red and a pint) and has a few different wines on offer (unlike the Fox under its new ownership), It seems to do well for food - solid pub type dishes (fish and chips, lamb shanks, burgers), all reasonably prices and the food coming out looked lovely! I think it will take a few more visits till it settles into being my new local when I'm visiting family but even after a couple of hours it was growing on me, so its a good start with its decent prices and efficient staff.

With the extremely popular and more traditional Fox and Hound pub across the road, the Houston Inn has gone for a more modern look with leather couches, flat screen TVs, exposed stone walls and coal fires. While the interior is nice it is a little bit cold and unfriendly and not really what I personally look for in a pub. Speaking of cold and unfriendly the staff aren't particularly pleasant considering this is a local village pub where everyone knows everyone and such like. I have eaten here once and it was ok but nothing to write home about. If you ever find yourself in the Houston area I recommend the Fox and Hound over the Houston Inn any day.

Five Guys - Normal "small fries" with little bacon cheese burger

Awesome burgers, well worth the spends. Really fabulous service here, too!…read more Tasty and fresh is what you are paying for. Fries are SO good. Also the coke freestyle machine means you will never run out of drinks to try. Better service than any other Scottish five guys!

You know, the price tag of this place has always been a major deterrent for me. Then, Carolyn E and…read moremyself were at Braehead and I thought to myself - YOLO, whatevs, let's do this. I am so glad we did. Because honestly, considering what you get and what you pay at certain other burger eateries, this really isn't so bad. Free-refill drinks (and you have a selection of what feels like a million drinks out of the magical Coke machine), a stupid amount of fries (even when ordering a small portion - I'm curious to see how much you get for a large portion... an entire sack of potatoes maybe? Who knows) and a genuinely really tasty burger with all the fillings you want. The small bacon cheeseburger that I ordered was great - the meat was tasty and wonderful, the ratio just right. Yes, it was messy, but that was my fault for ordering green peppers on my burger - what was I thinking? The bacon was a thing of beauty - crispy and salty and american and wonderful! The buns were perfect and smushy and soft and fluffy. They're super tasty. I will say you'll wait slightly longer for the burger than you would at other fast food establishments but they're worth it! The cajun spiced fries are tasty but spicy - but know that you can order the seasoning on the side!
