We had been out at local parks, attractions and DIY stores and on way home, decided to stop into a wee gem I had visited in the past with mum. The Twisted Thistle is in the middle of Old Kilpatrick and area of the village appears shabby but the TT is a modern bar/diner located in the shadow of the Erskine Bridge. The interior is very modern and kitchen is open where food prep can be viewed. It has a mix of tables for usual covers and open area with couches for bar adjacent for relaxed vibe. Both were reasonably busy but not overly so. Originally we ate here on a previous occassion as the Lusset ( a former old haunt) didn't do food any more - and sad to say it was very, very run down. However, that was to our benefit once we relocated to the TT. This trip around it was a late lunch / early dinner. I opted for chicken goujons and chilli dip with steak ciabatta as mains. Missus had the soup n sandwich deal. Our youngsters opted for the kids menu with soup and fish n chips for the wee fella and burger for the youngest lass. All were very happy with speed of service, quality of food and we all had a taste of each others grub. Every one agreed on very good value/taste and quality of meals as well as over all service. For me, the goujons were light and crispy and dip was very aromatic - not too sweet and not too spicy. The steak sandwich was cheapest on mains menu (typically tight) but the roll came with chunky steak sliced with onions and cheese. The ends were a little dry but the middle was moist and tasty. Potentially a little expensive for the location but the OK bunch do fancy themselves as a bit up market :) and it was reflected in the high quality of both grub and surroundings. The ambience for a quite quiet day was really good with some ladies lunching in the comfy seats and some lads propping up the bar area all lending to a good atmosphere. The place is very clean including the rest areas. Unknown to me from the previous visit, I spotted that there is a great function area to the rear, so family events could be catered for too - a nice option to learn about. I would like to visit on a weekend evening to check it out then as it's close enough to home to have a relaxed night out and not need to worry about an extended trek home. Plenty of upcoming events with music / DJ advertised such as Hallowe'en, etc. so another reason to nip down on a weekend and TV monitor was on wall with sound down so may be a good spot for watching any big games? In summary; reasonably priced when quality of experience is accounted for. Very very easily the top spot for eats in the Clydebank area. Great big thumbs up. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g186534-d7660613-r319907892-The_Twisted_Thistle-Glasgow_Scotland.html#

It's actually in a much smaller unit in the Broomhill Shopping Centre and it literally is a small diner, too small for a bar or even for decent bathrooms. And yes the gent's wasn't working properly when we were there, but I liked the cool New Orleans sounds and found the place a little charming. I ordered the chicken wings to start, saucy and served with a cooling dip and salad. They were finger-lickin' good and not trying at all to be politically correct, they had a fire about them. It turned out to be a good job I had ordered a Strawberry Millions milkshake from their extensive menu. My battered catfish and chips were lovely too, a slab of succulent fish, cooked perfectly, moist and flaky, on top of a massive plateau of really nicely fried chips, and with a little paper cup of peas, just in case I had any space left, oh and a tastily dressed salad. I can eat a helluva lot, but I didn't need the peas, most of the salad, or some of the chips, so this place is definitely decent value for money. All things considered a four star review.

I am so glad we did. Because honestly, considering what you get and what you pay at certain other burger eateries, this really isn't so bad. Free-refill drinks (and you have a selection of what feels like a million drinks out of the magical Coke machine), a stupid amount of fries (even when ordering a small portion - I'm curious to see how much you get for a large portion... an entire sack of potatoes maybe? Who knows) and a genuinely really tasty burger with all the fillings you want. The small bacon cheeseburger that I ordered was great - the meat was tasty and wonderful, the ratio just right. Yes, it was messy, but that was my fault for ordering green peppers on my burger - what was I thinking? The bacon was a thing of beauty - crispy and salty and american and wonderful! The buns were perfect and smushy and soft and fluffy. They're super tasty. I will say you'll wait slightly longer for the burger than you would at other fast food establishments but they're worth it! The cajun spiced fries are tasty but spicy - but know that you can order the seasoning on the side!

We were in for lunch and the best seats at the window were bathed in sunshine which was amazing. I'd visited these premises before when it was Velvet Elvis/Criterion and like how they've knocked through the wall to make it a larger space. The decor is great - modern, exposed brick, classy but still with a bit of personality. And they kept the "Keep Partick Weird" wall which is excellent. I got three small dishes for lunch: asparagus with hollandaise (£5.50), three cheese croquettes (£5.50), pan-fried king scallops (£8). The place was really quiet and the food arrived quickly. The asparagus had a lot of hollandaise on it but was lovely, and the scallops were absolute heaven. I didn't love the croquettes though as I thought they were a little bland (especially as they have three kinds of cheese in them). I wasn't drinking but really need to come back for the beers as their list is very long and delicious sounding. This is super cool bar and can't wait to come back for another visit.
