My son and niece opted for the buffet for £8.95 each and they loved it.I had a Ceylonese korma and it was lovely with just the right amount of meat and sauce. It is a small, cosy restaurant and the owner was very courteous and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant highly and will be going back again soon. It is not licensed so if you want alcohol you can take your own :)

However, behind the slightly crass exterior lurks a genuinely enjoyable Indian restaurant which my boyfriend (who lives nearby)raves about. What makes the Pearl of India so enjoyable is the way the staff makes you feel like a valuable regular, even if this is your first visit. The level of attention given to customers can be slightly overwhelming at times. After briefly hinting that he was thinking of going to the restaurant for Christmas dinner, my boyfriend's dad found himself harranged by three members of staff, a diary book and a selection of Christmas menus for a good twenty minutes, before having to ask them (politely) to leave him alone. Perhaps he should have expected it really - he was probably the only person to query having Christmas dinner here (what about turkey & all the trimmings?!) We started with the Vegetable Samosa and the Fish Pakora.. Both were generous portions and absolutely delicious. On first impressions, quite a nice wee place tucked away at the end of a row of shops and restaurants near the station. Friendly welcome by the young chap waiting on us. Menu options were pretty expansive on pakoras/starters alone. One thing we all did find, was that the menu was slightly confusing and you were doing a lot of turning over and seeing what was where. Fi and I opted for a la carte & took the mixed pakora option (Chicken, Mushroom, Veg and Potato). Chicken Dopiaza and Staff Curry - which was a beautifully simple chicken curry. Pakoras took nearly 40 minutes to come out for a table of 8, which was quite a while. Ravenous by the time they arrived! Whilst quite tasty and well cooked, the thing that always lets things down... chilli!! Fish was spot on (stole Elizabeths!) but the veg and chicken were well nippy.. seriously nippy in fact. Main courses thankfully, came out pretty quick and they were beautifully presented and I have to say, rather tasty too. The Dopiaza was nippy again, but the staff curry was brilliant. Everyone really enjoyed their outing and before we knew it, it was already 10pm! I would never have thought to head out to Cambuslang for a curry, nor expect anything decent. It's clear that the focus of the restaurant is that it should still be a fun pub atmosphere that just happens to serve Indian food. So, looking in from the outside, you wouldn't know that it was an Indian restaurant. But when you walk in and smell it, you'll know. Portions were a little small so expect that you'd need to get a few things to get a full meal out of it. But they are appropriately priced for the portion size. They serve food here tapas-style and I believe you are still meant to share them so the idea is that you get a lot of dishes and eat as you drink copious amounts of beer. The one thing that made this place stand out was their service. It was amazing! During my meal, their card machines broke down and, as a result, I didn't have a way to pay for my food. The manager then comes up to me and says, "It's our fault. Don't worry about it." To be clear, this is only something I'd see in small-town America but never in a major city. So I was surprised that in Scotland's largest city, they were so trusting. (Really earning their reputation as the friendliest city in the UK). I was so touched that I promised I'd return to pay for my meal. I even kept my receipt so they'd know what to charge me. I came back the next morning, paid my bill, and, even though it's not required at all in the UK, I left a big tip as a thank you for trusting me and being so accommodating. When I come back to Glasgow, I will definitely come back.

It was everything we could hope for, great decor, excellent staff and the food was excellent. Would have to put it in my top 5 in Glasgow. Not to mention the walled beer garden out the back and the Banksy in the lane behind. Definitely worth a detour to find this wee gem.
