I'm sure I'm one of the few people left in Glasgow who hasn't tried Tribeca, and finally made my…read moreway there for lunch. At first, I was impressed. The place is nicely decorated after the recent refurb and has some interesting prints on the wall. Menus were in front of us when I arrived although they are very worn and tattered - maybe some new ones are in order? I ordered the buttermilk pancakes after hearing so much about these and was impressed to be asked whether I wanted the bacon crispy (yes, of course, it's the only way to eat bacon). The meals arrived shortly after we ordered. And I mean shortly - maybe 5 minutes, 10 at the most. There was a large stack of three very puffy pancakes in front of me, a couple of slices of bacon and a jar of maple syrup. Now, I've eaten a lot of pancakes in my time. I was disappointed that these didn't have a hint of being freshly cooked - they were warm and doughy in the middle rather than being piping hot. I think maybe they'd been cooked and reheated. The bacon a strange flavour, like it had been cooked on a grill with a burger (and not in a good way). And the maple syrup was incredibly runny, like water, rather than a thick drizzly consistency that you'd normally expect. It really wasn't to my taste but I know a lot of people really like Tribeca, so maybe it's me, not them. Our plates were cleared and then shortly after the manager came over with two more meals - nope, we've already eaten. Our bill was then delivered to the table next to us - nope, that's ours thanks. It came to around £10 each with a drink and I was pleased to be on my way.

Tribeca is seen as the Holy Grail of breakfast/brunch establishments in the west end. I had…read morelistened to people rave about it for yonks before I took the plunge and got a birthday breakfast down here with my friend last year. My first experience was great. Got fluffy, fresh pancakes smothered in syrup and topped off with bacon rashers. Washed them down with tea. Loved my meal and still felt envious of my friend's full English which, unfathomably, looked even better. Paid up; left feeling satisfied. What more could a girl ask for? Of course i returned! Great service, smashing scran - you would. So it's with a heavy heart that I deliver the news - it wasn't that great second time round. The food was still amazing, and the girls serving us were still lovely. But they forgot our order. We waited an hour. We were ravenous. We had to ask three times before it eventually came. And they forgot my boyfriend's bacon but still charged him the extra money for it! I do not like to complain about food. We're so fortunate to be drowning in restaurants in Glasgow at the moment. The cafe scene is always evolving to become better, stronger, to include local sources. So service that falls short of a certain level tends to stand out. The people serving us could not have been more apologetic. We got a discount because, after being a barista and doing customer service for a decade, I know how to complain. When you complain, take into consideration how rushed off your feet people are when they're serving you, and all the rudeness they have to sustain. Working in hospitality should be mandatory as a rights of passage, because it's relentless and not always rewarding (even in a swell place like Tribeca). I'm still in customer service and if you're an inflated, pompous git you'll not get anywhere with me. So I really don't like having a whinge, but things went wrong in here that day. And waiting an hour and a half for food is a bad impression, especially when you've raved to your partner about this place for weeks! In the end we got a discount, sincere apologies, and the poached egg/salmon combo was incredible. The girls who work in here are truly lovely, and I would give it another bash on those accounts. But being looked over for 90 minutes while other customers blithely dine is a disappointment.

So glad I stopped by Taphouse for dinner this evening…read more The inviting laidback atmosphere and warm service was exactly what I needed after a long flight from California, with entitled children, rude passengers, and a pervasive air of anxiety that's become "normal" nowadays. I opted for a pint of Guinness on tap (of course!) and asked for food recommendations. My server said the New York deli (pastrami and Swiss melt) was popular, but added that her favorites were the chicken pesto and the tuna melt. Not in the mood for seafood, I opted for the chicken pesto. Which was filling, gooey, and delicious! And "paired" perfectly with my Guinness! Total bill (before tip) - a modest £15.50. Will be back!

The menu has above average pub food. We ordered the wings for a starter and my only complaint was we ordered 12 and received 10!!! That aside, the sauce was delicious with a healthy zing to it... some of my favourite wings in Glasgow actually. For the main I got the NYC pastrami sandwich, which tasted pretty good and had a healthy portion of fixings! I had the rosemary chips on the side, and cleared my little bucket. My friend ordered the buffalo pizza and said it was quite tasty; I would have tried some but I already had too much food to attend too! The atmosphere has a good vibe, and I'm sure on the weekend the place is hopping. This is a great addition to the Finnieston area; I will definitely be back!

In foreign countries, it's that old familiar... but back home, it's one to avoid. After a late night, Lumberjack and I roll out of bed ravenous and in need of sustenance. Neither one of us feels like cooking, nor do we really want to get dressed up to eat out somewhere. We moseyed on down to McD's golden arches, which is conveniently located outside our doorstep. This is both a good and very bad thing. This location has recently refurbished its dining area, as well as the drive-thru (a work in progress). I have to say, they've definitely swanked up this McD's location, with its sleek minimalist booths. Needless to say, the wee ones in this store have already run amuck and made a mess, which the poor staff lady has to clean up after. As Lumberjack and I devoured our process-tastic food, I couldn't help but see children running around like little terrors and think to myself that this was some form of natural birth control. The sweet and lowdown: Great convenient location (bad bad bad), but not open late enough (which is actually a good thing!).

Nic's made my daughter a box of beautifully decorated donuts for her birthday that she was able to pick up on her way to class the morning of her birthday. The staff at Nic's were super helpful and even allowed my daughter to pick up the surprise baked goods at 9:15 when they only opened at 10 AM. And she reported that they were delicious! I was able to order, prepay, etc. - super easy! Thanks so much Nic's for making my daughters abroad birthday so special!

I'm a massive fan (see previous review of their St Enoch Square branch) but the only day I can make it to Nic's is a Saturday due to their opening hours and me working relatively far away. So when I heard their new establishment would be open til 11pm, 7 days a week, I was pretty excited to say the least! It's so great that the Nic's concept has really taken off, especially since most new places in Glasgow seem to be massive chain burger joints these days!!! For those who might not be aware, Nic's NYC Deli is just that. They serve glorious pressed sandwiches with delicious flavour combos, hot dogs, taco bowls and pancakes among other tasty offerings - like their amaaaazing doughnuts and American goodies such as Twinkies (which I definitely want to try at some point, just because!) This branch also has the extra addition of crepes (sweet and savoury!) so those who frequented this place as a Crêpe à Croissant can still get their fix. There's always the worry that another branch won't quite have the same feel as the one you're used to, but I'm happy to report that this definitely isn't the case with this one. I absolutely adore the decor, it's really cool without looking like it's trying too hard and the whole place looks fab! As for the food, it is as delicious as ever! The bf opted for a chili dog last night as he hadn't tried their hot dogs at all yet, and he absolutely scarfed it down, totally loved it. I got their LA Club Lite (chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes and either chipotle or dijon mayo) since I hadn't had that one yet and I flipping love avocado and bacon together. It was brilliant, the bacon was done extremely well which I love, and their ciabatta bread is very tasty indeed. We were gonna get some doughnuts to take away, but our server offered us a free one each since they've just opened! Result!! I've got a Snickernut sitting in its wee bag under my desk right now, but since it's lunchtime I have a feeling it might disappear fairly soon... What more can I say? The staff are great, the food is great, the prices are great too - I think all in we paid about £12 for our food and a drink each which, for the quality and size of everything is pretty darn good! It's extremely reassuring to know that if I feel the need for a Nic's I can just pop along and get one...the downside being this might happen far too frequently from now on!!!
