Just visited for the first time for the Portland Restaurant Month special, and I can't wait to come back! The owner and staff were very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The space is so unique and cozy. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, which is great with the summer weather approaching. There is plenty of street parking available too. The food was excellent! We loved the arugula salad, truffle mushroom pizza, and the affogato. We would order everything again! Definitely get your own pizza, or a few to share...they are too delicious, you'll want to eat it all! The crust was perfect, crispy on the outside and nice and chewy on the inside. Very Portland-esque pizza spot with homey, living room style decor and a beautiful back garden. The pizza was pretty good! But unfortunately mine was a bit burnt and I honestly didn't find it to be very flavorful. Crust was really good and dipping sauces is such a good idea. Wish we would have gotten the tiramisu! Drinks were good and honestly I'd go back just to have an aperol in their garden. Make a reservation! My daughter moved to Portland from SF. We were all (me and my two kids...the 22 yr old and 6 year old) super excited to try this in famous pizza. They offer a walk in option with a list. We arrived at 5:37 and requested outdoors as it was 70'. The (white) couple ahead of us marked there names down for either inside or outside at 5:36 and the group (white women) of 3 after us arrived at 5:38. Brittney, the hostess, told the couple ahead of us that the wait would be around 30-45 min. After hearing this we decided to stick around and wait. After 40 min., Britney did offer us a two top table outside & a smelly table by there unused tanks and in mud. I politely declined and asked to be sat indoors. I checked the list as I walked back outside and noticed that the 3 top after us, whom also requested outdoors, were seated way earlier than us...NOT in the area offered to us. An hour later...Britney came back amd said that a garden table would be opening up soon. We decided to wait. She never came back, then an hour and 10 min after original sign in time...she came to us and said "you never were seated?" I was thinking no...you did not seat us! We were forgotten. There was no sorry or my apologies or hustle to Britney forgetting about us. She seemed irritated with us actually. Once we ordered at the counter I ordered and said "...will I receive half off glass of wine for us being forgotten?" Brintney said of coarse....she actually comped the glass so the was nice. Once we were done eating I handed her some cash (I already had left a tip) and thanked her for trying. She gave me stank face and walked away without so much as a thank you. My pro tip Turning Peel. Move Britney to "cashier and to go window" as she was not very hospitable. I am an avid pizza maker and make pizza at home at a very high level. There aren't many places in town that impress me... I've been hearing about the turning peel on social media and decided to try ordering it for delivery last night. I ordered the mushroom truffle and garlic, and also a pepperoni pie with a side of olives. The crust was definitely unique, and I appreciated the complexity and texture of the sourdough. These are different pizzas, they are smaller and more personal sized, which was a nice change. Overall, the quality was fantastic and I was really impressed. I am looking forward to going there in person and trying some cocktails. This place is definitely worth trying and is not like any other place in town. Unique pizza establishment with a small inside dining room and an outdoor patio that is warm and well insulated from the outdoors. The sourdough crust is what they're known for, and it did not disappoint! It was the best part of the pizza. They offer dipping sauces for the crust which we unfortunately saw after we had ordered so we didn't get to try them. The service, while friendly, was a little disappointing. We ordered two pizzas and they forgot to fire the second pizza, and it took an additional 30 minutes to come out. I was also puzzled by the fact that they didn't cut the slices through all the way, and when we asked about it, they gave us scissors and told us to look underneath the pizza to finish the cuts because that's the way they serve them. There was already a line outside waiting for the restaurant to open at 5pm but we were seated quickly. The patio area outside was a beautiful set up, however despite it being heated it was still a bit cold (our table was near the door though). The ordering style is via QR code which I wasn't a big fan of since you have to pay and tip already. The pizzas were amazing, the toppings were so fresh and it was some of the best crust I've had. I was sold on it being pizza made with sourdough. I was super excited to try this out, huge fan of pizza and sourdough. I got the margherita pizza, delicious! Also had the whipped ricotta with honey and garlic oil. It leans more in the sweeter side but a delightful addition to the pizza. They have table or counter service. The wait staff is alert and attentive to our needs. This is an old home converted to a pizzeria restaurant. On the outside they have all kinds of plants around the tables in front and in the back. The place is kind of antiquey and homey. Very comfortable. Great food and beautiful space! I came here with my partner for lunch on a Saturday and we split the arugula parm salad and pepperoni jalapeño hot honey pizza. Both were really good and the sourdough pizza crust had that nice chew to it that I've come to love. It wasn't too busy but I've heard it's busier for dinner. The only drawbacks on the pizza were the toppings had a tendency to slide off and the center of the pizza was a bit too doughy and oily. While the food is good, the ambience is the major draw for me. The entrance, interior, and back patio are all absolutely gorgeous! The owner did an excellent job making the restaurant very relaxing. This restaurant isn't my absolute favorite pizza place, but I regularly tell others about it and definitely recommend giving it a try! read more

I absolutely loved it here! The Turning Peel is the cutest and most charming hidden gem! The food was phenomenal -- the margarita pizza was perfectly done and the arugula and parmesan salad paired perfectly with it. Do not pass on the whipped ricotta with honey and garlic oil dip; I could eat it on everything. The wine selection is limited (just red or white), so I'd probably bring a bottle next time -- the corkage fee is $25. Every seating area feels cozy and homey, adding to the charm of the place. All of the staff was friendly and food came out quickly. I appreciated ordering through my phone so we could go at our own pace and it makes it a great place for groups so you're not awkwardly trying to split the bill at the end. This is some of the best pizza crust I've had in Portland. It's flavorful (sourdough) and chewy! I made a reservation because it seems like a popular/trendy place. We sat outside and the "oasis" patio is super cute. I wish the pizza had more sauce/toppings because the crust was so thick and delicious. I was a little disappointed that it's basically counter service. You either order on your phone with a QR code or at the counter. I don't really like being asked to tip before I'm even served (or in this case I wasn't really served. They just brought the pizza and then pretty much left us alone) They also charge $1.5-2 for a tiny amount of dipping sauce. Came here to try their pizza and ordered the honey hot pepperoni and margherita. The flavors were good, but I could only eat the middle. While some dark leoparding is normal for Neapolitan pizza, these crusts were excessively burnt and bitter, making them inedible. For the price, this felt unacceptable since a large portion of each pizza couldn't be eaten. I'm genuinely surprised this was served as-is, especially from a place claiming Neapolitan standards (AVPN). I wish I had opened the box before leaving to see the crusts. I think the pizza here is good, very light and airy but personally at close to $20 a pie the pizzas are a bit small and lacking for me. It ends up being a small personal pie. Since it's Neapolitan style the crust is very thin, the dough has good chew but I feel like they could make some pizzas bigger to offset the topping ratio. I know they have lunch specials but that's not the point. The ingredients are nice but having them make the pizzas a bit bigger wouldn't cost a lot dough wise. I think this is why I continue to eat at Ken's Artisan pizza as a preference. Staff are super sweet! Recommend making reservations or ordering online for to go. Parking is street parking on division so it can be a bit chaotic. read more

Absolutely LOVED this place! Was in town to celebrate a friend's birthday and let me tell you, we had the best time. The whole staff was perfect - they really take the time to make sure you're taken care of. Their hospitality and warmth are endlessly welcoming, which ties in really well with the environment (a home made into a restaurant, so cute!) All the food we had was amazing, Neapolitan pizzas done perfectly of course. They also have these dip trays that you can get on the side, which pairs really well with the food. It was definitely a great addition to tie everything together. Safe to say, that I will be coming back here every time I'm back in Portland. This is a very cute restaurant. We went right at opening on a Sunday and there was already a line out the door, but we were seated quickly. The heated patio is a bit cold still so come prepared for that but it's so cute with the lights and is worth it. The pizzas were tasty. Among 3 people we shared two pizzas and it was enough. I walked in with no reservations but there were plenty of seating available, I was seated within 5 mins. Full disclosure; pizza is my favorite food so I am of the mindset that even bad pizza is better than no pizza, but that also means I know GOOD pizza, and this pizza is off the charts good! The service is interesting as you order at the table through a QR code, (although if you're uncomfortable with that, they will let you order at the counter). They deliver the food and they do it with kindness and efficiency. The Turning Peel is in an old home that has been renovated into a kinda trendy, gorgeous restaurant. This place is very cute! It is in an old house so make sure to make reservations as it is small. My only critique of the location was that the patio was very warm - it had a roof and a lot of plants which created a greenhouse effect. At first we thought it was a hot day but as soon as we left we realized it was much warmer on the patio compared to the outside temperature elsewhere. The service was great! You can scan a QR code to order your food to the table. I found that they didn't have things like lemons or limes for the iced tea which was a bummer. There was also not a way to leave a tip if you ordered online so make sure to bring cash. The food was incredible! The sourdough crust was sooo good! I came here due to the great reviews. Unfortunately had a subpar experience. First, they require you to order off a QR code or at the counter and you must tip and close out to order food. The idea that you tip without table-side service and no one checks on you isn't right. The tipping starts at 20%, I am sure you can custom tip lower but it's not obvious how to navigate that on the app. I ordered the truffle mushroom and there was no truffle flavor. As well, the pizza came out with 1/4 of the pizza being a dough burnt bubble and the center was soggy. I am surprised the kitchen still served it. To pay $22 for a smaller pizza and 1/4 not being edible was disappointing. Lastly, our table inside had a fly issue and they kept landing on our food and drinks and it felt dirty. The Turning Peel continues to enjoy its well earned status as a neighborhood favorite. Every time I visit, they seem to have additional staff to keep up with demand. It's wonderful to see them doing well while keeping the quality first rate. I have to mention their pizza bread - small loaves, free for the taking, so that no leftover dough from the previous night goes to waste. Pizza lives up to the hype here, which I expected after learning it's a sourdough starter pizza. I myself maintain a sourdough starter, on a much smaller scale obviously, and I love baking sourdough anything with it! Service was very friendly, peeked at the owner too and she was as friendly as it gets. Lots of seating inside, cute decor, order with qr code and get your food delivered to the table. We got a margherita pizza, for the lunch hour actually it was a special, only $9! I personally think the 1 pizza can be shared between 2 people, that's what my boyfriend and I did. I was definitely surprised to find a last minute reservation on a Friday at 8:30pm because the last time I visited, I couldn't get a table as a walk-in so make sure to reserve your spot online. Also, they charge $25 per person if you don't show up or cancel your reservation before a specific date. I thought it was weird that I couldn't find a phone # online. When I visited, their system to order at the table using a QR code shut down so we had to order at the cash register. We got a seat outside and it was awesome to sit under the grapevines. It's so pretty in the backyard of the house. The employees were nice and attentive! We stopped by The Turning Peel and it did not disappoint. The place has a chill, welcoming vibe and the staff were super friendly and attentive without hovering. We had the garlic truffle pizza and it was seriously amazing. The sourdough crust was next-level--crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside, with that perfect tang you only get from sourdough. If you're looking for a cute, quaint and cozy restaurant here in Portland, OR I'd recommend The Turning Peel. Food, ambiance and service was phenomenal. I loved the mismatched interior (see my pic) and service from the woman running the front of the restaurant was always kind (despite her being very busy). I ordered the Garlic Truffle Mushroom Pizza, Pear salad, and a side of the Ricotta Garlic dip (for any leftover pizza crust) and I have nothing bad to say about the food. Everything was sharable size, pizza had a perfect thickness (for me) and was made of sourdough.
