I've been quite regularly visiting this place for authentic indian food around kirkland area. The ambience of the place is welcoming, its usually never crowded, and probably only place in seattle area service authentic bengali food. I always go with Goat biriyani which never fails me. The prices are on higher side, however - definitely not one of the affordable indian options but worth visiting for the taste. Goat Biriyani - 5 stars Biriyani is served piping hot with tender goat; this is one of the softest goat dish I have had. The goat is usually overcooked and loses its texture in other places. I love the aloo included in the biriyani. One of the best biriyanis in seattle area - hope the taste never changes. Tandoori Fish - 5 starts The fish was good too - cooked in a tandoori over so retained its char taste. The portion size of the fish is pretty good given its appetizer. read more

SLIMY PUKE SMELLING MUSHY BIRYANI. We've been long time patrons and taken many friends here over the years. Must have dined here twenty times. But my takeout experience today was unbelievable. Walked into an empty restaurant. Had to go into the kitchen to find a guy. Did not see the usual owners. Ordered a takeout. 1. The mutton biryani has a putrid puky smell to it. The biryani rice is mushy and sticky like Japanese rice. The orange chunks of goat have a slime to it. Had to toss it into the trash 2. I went here for the Sunday buffet. I was anticipating the crowd here after reading some reviews but there was enough sitting available at 12 PM. The place got a bit crowded after 1 PM though. If you are planning on going for a buffet, I would recommend you check their Facebook page. They will post the buffet menu on their Facebook page. Food was really good considering it was a buffet. Went in for Saturday lunch buffet. Had a pleasant experience. We went in early and crowd was less. Even though the number of items were less compared to regular Indian buffet spot, they were quite tasty and fresh. Clearly they value quality over quantity here. Yes, it is overpriced compared to nearby Indian restaurants, but I can clearly see why. Even the Rasmalai that we usually get at other places is from frozen packets, but here it was pretty clear that they had made it fresh. Apart from Chicken tikka masala, all the other items were different from the usual and since the number of items were few, got to try each and every one. Do give it try! This place takes spicy to a whole new level -- we asked for the Gobi Manchurian to be made spicy, and this guy tested us. I took 3 bites and couldn't continue... and I can tolerate spicy food normally. Fortunately he saw our defeat, and remade it. I'm inclined to think they made a mistake on the first go. Just be mindful of the spice, but overall the food is very good! The style of naan here is difference from most places -- it's not as puffy but more thin and slightly chewy. There were decent vegetarian options we tried - Aaloo dum kachori - steamed veggie momos - paneer lababdar with naan and Malabar paratha The Aloo and kachori were really delicious and kachori was not super oily. One of our friends Bengali friends told us about this place, and we have been here a couple times now. We are happy to have a good Indian place so close to us. This restaurant has amazing Bengali food in the Seattle area. I haven't seen a lot of other specific Bengali restaurants in this area. We had the Kolkata Cabin Style Fish fry which had boneless fried fish and the Mangsor Chop. The Kathi Rolls here are also pretty delicious. They had Indian Chinese specials so we got the Fried Rice, Noodles, Chicken Chilli and the Gobi Manchurian all worth trying out. The service was very prompt and servers were attentive, it wasn't super busy as well. Overall would recommend if you're looking for Kolkata or Bengali style food in WA state. read more

My wife and I ate an early lunch. It was us and a couple of other patrons. I ordered a Goan beer -- yummy. A lager with a hint of sweetness, maybe from honey. I do not know the name. For lunch we got an appetizer, Ghugni Tikki Chaat. This has a pan fried potato patty along with chick peas, etc. in a little bit of sauce. We found this to be a bit too salty and had too much turmeric. I would not order this again For the main course, we ordered Macher Paturi, mahi mahi marinated in a mustard coconut paste and wrapped and baked in a banana leaf, along with Tandoori Roti. My knowledge about Bengali foods is recently acquired and based on that I feel the place is serving a toned down version of bengali food. The ambience is good (unchanged from the place it was before). I ordered the vegetable cutlet- I think the taste was good and fried well but the bread-filling ratio was off with too much of the coating and the mint chutney was just too watered down. Continuing the trend of little overly watery curry was the "Murgir Lal Jhol" There were only couple of pieces of chicken which were cooked well, but the gravy was watered down and felt more red colored than spicy (I am guessing they used Kashmir chilli for color). But with rice that became even more bland. Overall I would be hesitant to visit again for the price. But soon will try their seafood dishes and update review as needed read more

Visited recently on Mother's Day special menu. It was buffet on Sunday afternoon . Buffet had limited options not a huge spread but taste of food was good. But the service was very slow and many people were just waiting for food to get refill and severs were not available many times either to hear you or take your used plates. I had done phone reservation but when I reached I was surprised that they said they are not taking any reservation on phone and I was like you should have told me that time but after waiting for 10-15 mins we did got place. When you are planning for special menu costing 33$ person then I expect them to be better prepared in terms of refilling food or handling reservations. For unique food and once it's ok. Staff was overwhelmed, had to move our seat because it was close to a door leaking cold air. Appetizer was good (mochar chop) but meat dishes were not great. A friend of ours visiting at that time mentioned that they gave tried many meat dishes and they were sub-par except Laal mans. So if I go there again, will try that. This restaurant is a little bit on the the pricer side and i'm not sure if it's justified because literally a 5-minute drive from here you can get excellent North Indian food for a more reasonable price with complimentary rice with any curry of your choice...(fyi not the case here). The food was delicious, flavorful, and authentic without a doubt. Service was good. A must-try if you're a fan of North Indian food and you happen to be in Kirkland. Portions are really good and filling. I got the paneer and ordered it to be a spice level of 2/5 but it was definitely more of a 3.5/5 honestly. Luckily I'm okay with spicy food. One wall had a row of buffet platters, although I do not know if lunch buffet is served. ----- Kolkata Style Mutton Biryani: it is the amalgamation of aromatic long grain basmati rice, luscious and juicy bone-in goat pieces, boiled eggs, tender potato chunk, ghee, mawa, saffron milk, spices, meetha attar and fragrant water ($23.99). The Kachi Biryani was out so we opted for this biryani. Goat chunks were very soft and tender. The dish was solid and the portion was large. ----- Nawabi Korma: a traditional Nawabi style smooth creamy gravy made with cashews, fried onion, yoghurt, and combination of saffron, green cardamom, dry fenugreek leaves. Available in chicken, lamb, and goat ($21.99 - $23.99). The sauce had a nice flavor and the chicken was cooked well. I liked pairing this with the biryani more than the given yogurt condiment. ----- Garlic Naan ($6.99). The flatbread was surprisingly extra crispy on the bottom and not oily at all. So we picked this place for my birthday dinner since we wanted to try something new and honestly it wasn't a good idea! The ambiance is very average. When we entered we requested a couch or a booth seating and although we could see a few of those open we weren't given those and the server made us sit at a table and chair seating. About the food I have listed everything we ordered below and our experience- 1. Chef's special Kosha Mangsho - when you are representing a particular state's cuisine and calling it Chef's special you need to make sure that the ingredients you are using are good quality. The gravy base was pretty good but the quality of goat meat was below average that ruined the entire taste of the curry. With that we ordered Kalonji Naan which was just like any other Indian restaurant. 2. Chicken Malai Kabab - I definitely thought it was undercooked since it looked quite pink. Taste and flavour wasn't bad at all though but it didn't have the "malai" feels to it. 3. Vegetable Cutlets - This was one of the items I thought was decent but was missing any flavour to it. It had a thick crumbly outer layer and inside was filled with Beetroot and peanuts which definitely was a good combination but they could use some spices in there! 4. Kolkata Style Chilli Chicken - This was the only thing that I thought was above average and good compared to Seattle standard Indian food. The reason I gave 2 stars was because of the pricing of the food and the service. After we were given our food, not one person bothered to come and check on us or ask if we were doing ok. From the pricing it looked more like they are trying to be an upscale version of Indian restaurants but the quality and taste of the food doesn't absolutely do justice to the price they are charging. Both the chicken items were about $19.99 each and neither the taste nor the quality or even the quantity justified that amount. Probably the only restaurant in Seattle area that serves Bengali food. That was our main attraction for trying this place. Went there for dinner. Ambiance of this place is really good. The set up, interiors and lighting are so nice. We got a comfortable corner table with a view. Menu looks great. We picked up Kalmi kabab from Small bites, Butter Naan & Rumali Roti from Breads, Kolkata Style Mutton Biynani and Paneer Makhanwala from entree section. Overall wait time was around 30+ mins. Food was decent. Breads were soft, I think they have got the best Rumali roti. The Biriyani was okish, didn't have the flavor I was looking for. Paneer Makhanwala was a little too much creamy - still good with the breads. Kalmi kabab was a little greasy, felt it was rushed a little bit. The portion to the price range - that's outrageous. The closest I have gotten to tasting authentic Bengali food in the US. The jhal muri feels straight out of a street vendor in Kolkata. Dimer Devil and Mutton chops are divine and take you back to Durga Puja pandal food stalls. Service is great, the owner personally came out for feedback. We went to this place based on the quality of the reviews and we were not disappointed! For our appetizer, we had the vegetable cutlet, which was an amalgamation of beets, carrots and potatoes, combined with masala and spices. Really tasty. For dinner, we shared two dishes between the three of us, along with an order of roti and rice. The roti was really good, but pretty buttery (if you don't like buttery, don't get it). The two main dishes were: the Milijhuli Sbazi, which was a vegetable curry, and Double Tadka Dal. The former was exceptional, and I would order it again without hesitation. The dal was good. I'll definitely be hitting this place again! Albeit probably not as soon as I'd like. The Turmeric Kitchen Indian Bar and Grill is currently in its soft opening stage. They are still understaffed with limited menu. When we went yesterday (Saturday night), it was their fifth day of business (according to the waitperson, who might also be a business partner). As soon as we walked in, I knew extra patience is needed. We were asked to sit down and wait to be seated even though there were empty tables. I spied only two servers for a place that is quite large; they were very busy working at top speed. I whispered to hubby - let's see if we get all our food within one hour. Sure enough, it was exactly one hour - from the time we arrived to the time all our food arrived. To clarify, I am perfectly okay with this since it's a soft opening. Being "rough around the edges" is acceptable. The waitperson later told me that they had wanted to do reservations only for soft opening, but people kept doing walk-ins, including us. LOL. Too bad their website has no such indications. Their food is LEGIT and GOOD. When the word gets out about them, they'll be even busier. I didn't explore enough on their Bengali dishes, as they are less commonly available in this area. I'll return for sure to try more dishes. P.S. this place is so legit that we are the only table with all non-Indian customers in the entire restaurant. I knew I was in the right place when I noticed that. Chicken Tikka Masala, $18.99 - 5 Stars Menu: Boneless chicken cooked in a tomato and butter sauce and Indian spices This is one of the best Chicken Tikka Masala dishes in recent memory. The meats are marinated and charred, cooked (presumably) tandoori style first then simmered in the sauce. It's very good. Plain Naan, $3.99 This was our disappointment of the night. The naan tasted like cardboard - flat, no blistering, no char. I gave honest feedback at the end of the meal, and our waitperson said she would have replaced it. She took it off our bill instead, which I appreciated. I am not including this in the rating due to her response. Phirney, $ 7.99 Menu: A traditional dessert (rice pudding) made with ground rice, sugar, milk and cardamoms. After the naan feedback, our waitperson said the chef wanted to apologize and to gift us this dessert. Hubby is a big rice pudding fan, so it was much welcomed. If you crave good Bengali food, you have to check this place out. The Bengali portion isn't as extensive as I would like it to be, but it's probably early days. What they have is pretty good - even the jhaal muri comes oil-blotting into a pseudo-"thonga" !! I've had their mochar chop, their kosha mangsho. Excellent stuff. Turmeric Kitchen has the best indo Chinese food in Kirkland. Momos were super delicious and freshly prepared, a very thin coating and more stuffing. The staff was very nice and greeted us well. The noodles reminded of Indian street chowmein. The chilli chicken was the best I have ever had! Soft tender chicken sautéed in a yummy chilli sauce! Review for Turmeric Kitchen Buffet: We had the Turmeric Kitchen buffet for second time now - once when it opened, and one today. Our experience first day was good, so we returned today -only to realize it is an ok or below average experience for vegetarians 1. Non-veg dishes followed by veggie dishes in the same serving station, where I could see the mix-n-match happening 2. Rasgulla was served in piping hot sugar syrup!!! (Rasgulla's are supposed be a cold sweet) 3. Poori and naan were almost non-existent through out the buffet - only few pieces would be added to the tray, and they were gone before your turn comes to pick up in the long queue! 4. Paneer dish was a potato dish with a piece of paneer every 10 pieces of potato! 5. And all of the above for a steep price of $30 per person!
