The Troff has been bookmarked on my Yelp for over a year. Finally during one of my visits (I live in Minnesota) we made time! The OT was packed. It was a lot larger than I thought. They had the main Troff bar and then another bar with a troff. The backroom was also a seating area. The menu was extensive. They also had a ton of specials on neon boards. You don't get plates here. You eat your oysters on the counter/bar and toss them in the wooden troff. How cool! We ordered two deluxe combos of oysters. These were cooked and featured three different flavors. The Parmesan one was my favorite, these were grilled style. Next we had a bucket of raw oysters. The bucket was huge! The master shucker shucked all of them in front of us and set them on the bar. They offered different hot spices and fresh lemons. Lastly we had the seafood Mac n cheese. Heavy of the cheese and oh so good! I will be back her next year during my visit. Stopped at The Oyster Troff while in the area. For a little hole in the wall restaurant it was actually very clean and nice inside! The menu was huge and had a lot of options for oyster lovers and non oyster lovers. I ordered a side salad, corn on the cob, and jalapeño high puppies- hush puppies were SO good. They have really cute beer flights that are priced very reasonably. They have quite a few unique beer options to satisfy any beer lover. Sounded like a good place based on previous reviews. We enjoyed a short trip from Clermont of about thirty minutes. We arrived early to avoid any crowding--we hoped. First the food. It was very good. The oyster chowder was some of the best I have ever had. For the main entree, I got the fried oysters. 12 of them with two sides was 12 bucks. I could not begin to eat it all. The food was piping hot and piled high. My wife got the Seafood platter. The other entree was for the coconut shrimp It was all good. We also splurged and got an appetizer of stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms were fresh. The stuffing was crab and it was a little dry I thought. They have a nice cocktail menu. We had the Rum Runner and the Cosmos. Prices ranged 8 to 10 dollars. Overall the food was good and the amount you get for the price you get it for makes it a bargain. The bad part? This place pretty much ignores Covid guidelines. No attention to social distancing. Masks worn below the chin as soon as the waitresses left the table. No hand sanitizer anyplace. No hand washing by the wait staff that I saw. Use paper towel to get in and out of the bathroom without touching anything. No place to discard the paper towel though. read more

We went to the Troff, for dinner and the stuffed mushrooms had very little stuffing, didn't taste any flavoring, very bland. My clam strips were over cooked, and the fish and shrimp were under cooked. The coleslaw had no flavor. My wife's coconut shrimp were burnt and way over cooked, she didn't even eat her meat. Yuck. Do not order the fish. It is the cheapest thinnest piece of fish they got farmed somewhere. Two of us who ordered the fish were confronted with an uncooked slice that had a jelly like texture. Even the hush puppies were raw in the middle despite being brown on the outside. Were the cooks in a rush? The onion rings were heavily battered and quite salty. If you drink a couple beers I imagine the fried foods are okay. The service was fair. We had to ask 3 times for utensils. No refills on drinks. Great food, when it finally came out. Seem like the waitress/bartender was having trouble with the kitchen. Ordered oysters Rockefeller that never came, also raw oysters that never came. We were there two hours and it was an hour and 15 minutes before any food arrived. Drinks were quick, really cute place. Just seemed like a big disconnect between the kitchen and the front of house. Very disappointing because the food did taste very well. Even the people next to us had trouble getting what they needed. Went to this place twice in the 6 days I was in the area. Nice little place with friendly locals and a laid back blue collar feel. All in all I'll def. be back. Price: Prices were very cheap compared to up here, and the food was good too. The second day we had 36 oysters (mix of steamed and raw), two servings of the jalapeno hushpuppies, a grouper sandwich & fries, a dozen wings and two pitchers of yeungling for $57! Granted some stuff was on special because of the game-time deals, but we were there earlier in the week without specials and it was still almost that cheap. Drinks: Full bar, though some of the bottles looked empty (example - Maker's Mark). Not a ton of draft beer to choose from either, but they had Yeungling on draft and it was nice and fresh. The game-time special is $6.00 Bud pitchers, but here's a KEY TIP. Yeungling is also only $6 during game time! Two weeks ago I was paying that for a GLASS in NYC. We also had Yeungling off-special a few days earlier, but I don't think it was more than 8-9 bucks then either. Food: The oysters were great. A little bit of a wait, but not bad at all. The oysters are from Texas and thereabouts. I haven't traveled as much as my sister, but she said they were a lot better than west coast and comparable to blue point oysters. (Gasp! Someone's opinion other than my own!! Someone alert Yelp ASAP!!) The hot wings were pretty good too. Next time I'll probably order one level hotter. My hubby and I came here last night for a late dinner. We were greeted by an older woman with a bubbly personality. I didn't get her name but she was very attentive and social. My husband ordered the all you can eat fish and by god she kept the orders coming. Before he could finish one basket another was being delivered to the table. I had the seafood platter and it was enjoyable. I love their jalapeño hush puppies. One bite of that and you get some heat and lots of flavor all at once. I've been visiting this area for about 5 years, and this little hole-in-the-wall oyster bar served me the best dinner I've ever had in the Eustis-Mt Dora areas! I had the Alaskan Snow Crab Cluster Appetizer and Blackened Redfish Dinner with the crispiest most delicious fries. It was phenomenal! My mother had the Lemon Pepper Redfish Dinner with green beans and fries, and my grandfather had the Twin Chicken Breasts with green beans and fries. Both raved about their dishes too! The service was great and the prices are fair. The outside is not that appealing, but don't judge a book by its cover, which is especially true for this place. The food speaks for itself! I had the best fresh oysters I've ever had in FL here at this treasure in Eustis. I had passed it many times not noticing the place. Don't let it fool you, it's bigger inside and very clean. The horseradish was freshly grated and really added to the experience. Prices are very reasonable and wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable about shipment freshness and region of oysters. Started with Bloody Marys which were very yummy and fried calamari that the breading on was soberly yummy, great, light and fried to perfection. On to the Oysters on the half shell. Went in to check out this because I like oysters, sat at the end of the bar, waited about ten minutes watching a waitress shuck oysters for another customer, finally got a drink and became invisible, waitress walked by us at least a dozen times. Tried this restaurant for the first time. Took almost 40 minutes to get food and it wasn't worth the wait. They promote fresh fish, the food we were served was not fresh, and not very good. Stephanie was very rude. Her breath smelled of alcohol. She gave me an undercooked burger while her child played underneath the dirty bar floor. When I brought it to her attention that my burger was undercooked I was escorted off the property and then was sick all night. They refused to refund my check and I will not be returning. read more

We have only tried the Troff 2 times in the last week LOL. The food is fresh and prepaired to perfection. The raw oysters are a must. Some of the best we have had. The shrimp are good and a decent size, the fried fish (all u can eat on Fridays) plentiful, and the oysters fresh and shucked bar-side. The ahi app is pretty good, too. The service can vary, depending who's on, but they're always friendly. Their beers are ice cold and there's a full bar. There's TVs and tables and, during season, you have to wait for a seat anywhere at prime times. Other than that, the place is underwhelming but predictable. It's been there for quite a few years.
