I absolutely love The Train Center, right here in downtown Centralia. There's nothing like a locally owned shop that specializes in something like this ... Model Trains!! Originated in Seattle, the owning family moved to Centralia pre-pandemic and made Lewis County their home. Successful navigating the shutdown, this business now survives thanks to the determination and passion of the grandfather who owns and runs the shop with the help of his wife and grandson! One cannot argue with the lineage that it present here. My son is wild about model trains and we are just getting started with his first electric model set - the locomotive, the additional cars, the tracks, and the layout! We're working to be all in. The extremely helpful and kind owners have been nothing but helpful to us - guiding me in explaining what we need (now and in the future) and how to install it. They've even helped me understand what wasn't working with our set and what else we'd need to make it work better. Being a small, locally owned business they don't always have the large selection that one might find at online shops; but believe me ... the online shops are not going to give you the personal attention and time that these guys will give you. They love model railroading and sharing their knowledge with the consumer. That said, they do have a goodly amount of trains and accessories for your layout at very reasonable prices! You'll be able to find locomotives, cars, and model extras (people, buildings, vehicles, landscapes, etc.). Plus they have paints and other model building supplies. Trust me ... The Train Center is worth your time and you'll not only get a great deal on your layout needs, you'll probably end up learning something new too. Imagine my surprise when I walked in and saw what I had been missing all this time!! Truthfully, I thought it was more of a craft store than a book store; but I was completely wrong. There are many, many shelves and aisles of books - much more than I thought there would be. Both "parts" of the store, the books and the craft, are plentiful. Book 'N' Brush have a great selection of all genres of books - adults, teens, kids - and it's already great to have these selections in a local store. Physical space side of things - the aisles are wide, the shelves are deep, book covers are displayed, top sellers are spotlighted - everything is easy to see and the store is easy to navigate. The staff was very friendly with me. Checking in when I walked in and then let me wander and look around without being pushy or making me feel like they were hovering over me. Perfect!! We started trying to explain there was no bakery parking and were only gonna be 10 mins at bakery and then head to their bike shop and were cut off and told "that's not my f*cking problem" by the worker. Born and raised in that exact neighborhood and never been spoken to that way by a business and have always supported those local businesses. Will never shop at that bike place again with those type of rude attitudes and lack of understanding/empathy.

Packaged items such as honey and chips were also available. The Hot Sauce Festival was the main attraction of the day so there was a food truck on-site as well. Blistering hot pepper starts of several different varieties could also be purchased for those with green thumbs. Unfortunately, that isn't me. After sampling several fiery hot sauces and marinades it was refreshing to be able to order and consume an ice-cold craft beer from McMillin Farms brewery on-site. Red and white wine is available for those who do not care for beer. Beers were pricey at $8.75 each; however, keep in mind that you are supporting a small and local business. I look forward to attending future events at McMillin Farms.
