Waited 10 minutes after seated and still no service. It was 5:30 Saturday St. Patrick's weekend and only 4 tables and a few about 5 people at the bar. We to Foxes, on the other side of the road. We stopped here to eat for the first time after driving by countless times. This time, we were with friends and finally decided to give it a try. The drink menu was decent, though we noticed there wasn't any wine available--hopefully, they'll consider adding some local options in the future. The beer selection was solid, but we were surprised they didn't carry Bloom Brew, which is a great local choice they really should have on tap. I ordered the bacon bourbon burger, and it was excellent. We also shared a few appetizers, all of which were quite good. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. Overall, it's a great spot, and I'd definitely stop back. If I lived in the area, I could easily see this becoming my go-to place. read more

This place is either a mediocre hit or a complete nightmare. They used to have a bartender who made an amazing cosmopolitan. The current bartender serves up one that tastes like straight up sugar water. Even adding a shot of vodka didn't help. My friend and I accidentally went here on trivia night. Not being able to hear each other talk, we asked to move to the outside area and were informed that the speakers out there would also be blasting the annoying trivia. When we expressed our frustration, our waitress (Hannah L) told us we should have known it was trivia night, but since we didn't, she would happily pack up our food and send us on our way. The food is generally inedible, although the fries and wings are pretty good. But the server attitude, bad bartender, and forced annoying trivia made for seriously regrettable night out. read more

We tried the pizza and found it quite disappointing. The plain pizza had some flavor and the crust was okay. I struggle to find anything that elevates it to where I can say something more. (3/5) The white pizza offers more to comment on. There are times where you encounter too much ricotta cheese, but there was some flavor. I really think they could have mixed melted butter with the olive oil to give some flavor complexity. The crust is okay at best much like the plain pizza. I am just not enjoying it enough to stop by when bicycling. (3/5) The reuben. Not the best but definitely not the worst. I'll give them a plus on this. Russian dressing is the real dressing to use, so maybe 1000 Island makes it a Rockwood Reuben in their eyes. Overall, disappointing especially with the recommendation. read more

My husband and I wanted to try their Sunday Brunch menu. Let me first say our server was very nice and accommodating. We both got the brunch drink specials and they were nothing special, I got the bloody mary and it was clearly a mix, he got the flight of mimosas, they were very bitter. For our meals he got the chicken and waffle meal, the chicken was hard as a rock and the side potatoes had to have been cooking for days, so hard we didn't even touch them. I got the pancakes and bacon, the only pancake that was cooked was the top one, the bottom 2 were mush, the bacon was fine. Needless to say, we won't be back for brunch $45.00 for a meal that we barely ate. read more

2nd visit. Along the trail with plenty of bike and vehicle parking. Under new management since my first visit about 6 years ago but the cleanliness, service and friendliness have not suffered. Cold refreshments include domestic, import and craft beers plus a full bar. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. After riding 20 miles on the Great Allegheny Passage a cold brew and lunch was just what we wanted. The Trailside is truly on the trail. The trail head parking is just steps away from the pub. Nothing fancy about this place but it is clean and the service is friendly. We sat at the bar on a Thursday afternoon, it wasn't very crowded. The bar had a lot of TV Screens with sports playing. Quite a few brews on tap. The lunch menu offered salads, wraps, sandwiches and some starters. The larger entree's aren't available until 4pm. We enjoyed the Megalodon fish sandwich. Very friendly, attentive service. I require gluten-free and the server went back to the chef twice to check out what kind of breading they have on a couple of items. We came up with the sweet potato appetizer to start. This was a crowd-pleaser because of the addictive maple syrup dip. I then had the homemade chicken salad sandwich since the server said it could come on a gluten-free roll. It was very tasty. The mashed potatoes were excellent with just enough potato chunks and skin. The other three people on our party were also happy with their hoggies and burgers. My wife liked their coleslaw. Discovered this place while we were looking for a place to grab dinner after spending the day in the area. Rather tasty find. When we first drive up to the place, I was a little struck that there's a bicycle repair shop under it. I also enjoyed the trail right beside the restaurant. Our party included 5 people, but that didn't seem to bother the waitstaff, they immediately made accommodations. Our waitress was wonderful and very kind. The menu has a good variety of food. Something for everyone. As for the food: it was ok. I had the avocado burger. It was simply a typical burger... nothing fancy, nothing out of the ordinary. I've had better, I've also had worse. The fries were good. Just a typical French fry. One member of my party got the wings with General tso's sauce and raved about them. Another got the Italian hoagie. It looked very appetizing. Man, I wish I'd have read the reviews first! We've been here before and have not had an issue but today, it was like they were actually TRYING to be rude! First, our server, Darrah, was SUPER SWEET! None of this reflects on her! Even though I'm pretty sure the owner took it out on her! I ordered the "Honey bourbon beef FILET tips". I realized as it was seved to me that i was never asked, nor did i mention how i wanted my steak cooked. I blamed myself when it came out Well done. I asked Darrah if i could get them MR because i couldnt eat steak well done!! She said no problem. I said if it is, ill just get something else. She said no its ok. Around 20 mins later, everyone else is done eating, i knew i wasnt getting MR this time either! I definitely did not. They were actually worse then the first, now XWell. Sadly, I was done trying and wasn't even going to get something else. I ate some of my chips and my fries instead. Darrah ​, seeing i wasn't eating those either offered to just have then taken off. I agreed. The manager (?? Blonde bartender) comes over and said "who had the tips?" I said I did. She says, "well we don't cook them MR, but that was my fault as I told her we would" I said ok I asked, and said I'd get something else if not. To which she says "well we took off the second charge of $7 for the "extra" beef tips". I just kind of stared at her and thought wait did they charge me for fixing a bad meal? Then I said "the second charge?" Her response "well you got a second portion of meat you get charged for it" to which I said "but the first portion wasn't even edible, I was hoping the second would be if they were less cooked" her -- "well I took off the second $7 charge. You ate your sides, I'm not taking off the full charge ($20) and if you don't like that then you can talk to my manager," then walks away. Now I truly debated on whether to chalk this up as a mistake I won't make again, pay for it, and not deal with the rudeness anymore, but I was paying $20 for chips and fries. At least take off the meal and charge me for those two sides. Considering the lady was super rude about it, I wasn't going to let it go. I asked to speak to the owner, Rod. He doesn't have the best reputation, but being in food service my whole life, I'm still being nice. He walks to the table says "what's the problem" I start "I got the beef filet tips" .....interrupted, "I know, we don't cook them less than well, and she should've known better". I said well I asked and was told you could or else I'd have.....he then swipes the receipt from the table, rudely, walks away, saying "I'll just take it off". I was in the middle of my sentence!! I wasn't being rude or anything nor did I expect a free meal! But I'd have love to have food that was edible! I'll gladly pay for my chips and fries. I've been doing this same work for a VERY long time, I have NEVER seen such a Terrible owner or manager. Let's be honest, we all have those days where you WANT TO SAY well you ate it, you should pay for it....but I did not. Neither could even be eaten! And you definitely don't let the customer get that vibe from you! Thanks for the AWESOME Birthday meal SMH! RUN SO FAR FROM THIS PLACE DARRAH! Fyi: if your menu states beef filet tips, you might want to serve a better cut of meat then chuck beef stew! You're right you can't make those MR and edible! Great lunch destination after bike riding the rail trail from Boston, PA to West Newton, PA (14 miles) or anywhere along the Great Allegheny Passage that includes West Newton. It sits alongside the trail right in West Newton. Park your bike, sit out on the deck, have an iced cold raspberry ice tea or brewsky and your choice of one of many enticing sounding options. I was having trouble deciding between the ceviche and the strawberry/candied walnut salad. The salad won. It was pleasant to look at and even more enjoyable to eat down to the last bite. My husband ordered a sandwich and fries. I can vouch for the fries, as I stole some to complement my nutritious salad. They also offer a water fill-up station. Quite nice. Be sure to visit the bike shop downstairs, as well. read more

Visited with my family and we all had a great time (this was pre-covid). We loved the fried pickles, their salads, and their sandwiches. I went with the pittsburgh chicken salad and really loved it. They have a ton of menu options that will surely suit everyone. They are conveniently located right next to an epic trail- this would be a great spot to grab take-out on a nice day and enjoy a safe, socially distanced walk on the trail.
