There are helpful people there to answer questions and suggest options you may not have thought about. The Topeka Toy Store (Lawrence too) is large and open with a second floor full of toys, books, and activities. I do an opinion writing project with my 5th grade class every year about entomophagy (eating insects) and I rely on the Toy Store for the boxes of flavored crickets and larvae I offer to the brave kids who choose to try them. We've been coming here for a long time and my 16 year old and 2.5 year old still find fun things they want at every visit. We love the Toy Store! If you're looking to support local business and don't mind spending a bit more to do so, you have to check this place out. There's something for everyone. read more

Yes, this is an actual toy store with all sorts of games, toys, puzzles, dolls and other things for the little ones. I thought I would just check it out, but then I found the unicorn section and, well, I bought a snowglobe for a friend. Friendly service from folks who sincerely asked if I needed any help. And when I asked the young man at the register if he'd seen a specific type of unicorn, he brought me *right* over to *exactly* what I needed. So I ended up buying that too. This place is cool for kids. Every weekday they have some kind of event for kids. The prices are a little higher, but it's a local store that has a good selection. Also, the selection of books is great too! I would for sure recommend you bringing your kid to one of the events and looking around. I saw the reviewer in 2010 said this place looks creepy...no, it looks like a kid store! I guess grown ups who are too serious to enjoy fun, just thinks things are creepy instead :p read more

I used to go to this store with wide eyes and hope and wonder now as I walk in I see a ghost of all the fun that it used to house with it's helpful staff no where to be seen and prices through the roof and seems that they care more about themselves then about the customers and kids. Would rather go on amazon or Walmart in a heartbeat where I would get better service and price. read more

AMAZING selection...so many things for ALL ages! toys,crafts,books,games,outdoor, etc... And we love that they have a little bit of everything to play with in-store and try out! Only drawback...and its a big one for us, is that its all so expensive. When we compared to other stores or amazon prices, there was a huge difference in price. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this store! I went in Christmas shopping tonight. Was greeted by Aubrey when I walked in. When I told her the ages of the kids I was shopping for she offered to show me different items that were good for their ages. Another employee offered to take the first item I picked out and take it up front so I could shop in comfort. Then as I was ready to check out; Boom! This place is great. Never in my life did I expect to see a successful local toy store. The market is so cornered by big businesses, yet this little gem holds strong. They have a stellar selection and carry standard play toys, educational toys, some collectibles and books, including the occasional one signed by authors. The family that owns the place has always been friendly when I've met any of them, and there is a sense of passion put into this store. read more

Love this store. The selection is stellar. Science projects are hard to come by unless shopping in Kansas City. This store had what I was looking for. (So glad it's just right down the street!) The Toy Store is a child's paradise. They have a wide selection of toys of all kinds - stuffed animals, puzzles, children's books, toys, etc. The staff is friendly and helpful. They often have special events for children at the store. This place is (unsurprisingly) always packed near Christmas time. If you're looking of specialty toys, this is your spot. read more

I don't know what another reviewer was seeking. This store has more quality toys than I have seen in one place for the last 25 years. As a teacher I am impressed by the wide selection of developmentally appropriate toys. Great place to shop. read more
