Used to go regularly to this restaurant, but hadn't been back for three years due to Covid. We went there last night, and was pleased to see it hadn't changed in appearance, the interior was welcoming, seating and decor good as before. The problem was with the food from the Carvery. My friend had scampi and chips, which were freshly prepared, and well presented. I opted for the regular carvery with additional three pigs in a blanket' at an additional £1.75. On the counter were a small dried piece of ham, around 5" thick, a small piece of turkey and a small piece of dried up looking beef. I told the 'chef' that the ham was dried up, his answer was to trim a piece off the end. It was still dry but not as bad as the outside piece. I asked him if he had a new piece to come out, but never got an answer. He appeared disinterested and I was in no mood to get into it with him. There were a few roast potatoes but again were dry and hard on the outside. I had peas, as it's pretty hard to screw them up, and some broccoli. Thank heavens for the gravy! at least it added some moisture to this dried meal. I looked on in disbelief when he went under the counter and pulled out the three pigs in blankets, they were miniscule, and again dried out, definitely not what I expected for £1.75.
It looked like this was all leftovers from lunchtime. I was so disappointed, I paid the bill but told the receptionist about it and she said she'd pass it on to management. Another point, it was a dreich cold evening and they had a ice fireplace all ready to go, but it remained unlit.
I won't be rushing back there any time soon which is a pity as it's a nice place. I will say the manager who greeted us at the door was very nice, attentive and welcoming, but he really needs to come down hard on the carvery staff. read more
