It's all about encapsulating you into the experience.....And, this venue does just that! The Theater at MGM National Harbor -- delivered on a first rate show and experience for some friends and I. Lucky me, a friend who works for WKYS (93.9 FM) scored a couple of tickets to the....Mary J Blige / Lalah Hathaway Concert and treated us to the show. And, wow!...All I can say is...that it was an incredible show and perfect mid-week treat indeed. This venue was the perfect setting for completly two different artist and shows all rolled into one. Once inside the theater, it is clear to me there is not one bad seat in the house. The design of the venue offered the best views of both performers from all angles, based on where we were seated. THE PERFECT SEAT The intimacy of this venue is what make it special. This is what helps this theater set itself apart from other venues. The layout of the seating gave us the perfect view to the performers. The seating and floor plan range from floor seating, mid-tier level, VIP seating boxes and balcony view seating. Personally speaking the mid-tier (Orchestra) level seating is the best seating in the house! The view was incredible from all angles, without being cramped by floor seating crowd and/or feeling too far away in the upper-tier/balcony seating. Part of our group that went to this concert was sitting in the balcony. During the intermission, I had a chance to see their seating and the angle/view was good....but not the best. THE SUITE LIFE Instead of the regular seating, you can step it up to the VIP suites. The Theater at MGM National Harbor houses seven VIP suites where guests can enjoy the view from private boxes and can have access to an private entrance, VIP-only full-service bar and catering offerings. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to experience it myself...lol....but I am sure it will allow for the complete experience and convenience of food/drink runs during a show. TO SUM IT ALL UP In all, I was impress with "The Theater!" From the show experience to theater's design is all-inclusive. The lightning and acoustics was perfect too. The layout wraps you around the main focal point...which is the artist. The sightlines from where I was sitting...to walking the floor...to hanging with friends in the balcony were equally all good in my book. I definitely will be checking out more events at this venue! TIPS 1) The mid-tier (Orchestra Seating) - Section 103 are the best seats in the house! You can see everything from this section and worth every penny. Trust me, you'll thank me later! 2) The lines for the bar can get very long on the main level. Go to the bar on the balcony level...there was little to no lines or long waits. 3) Make it a dinner-show thang. Before and after the event, the food courts and restaurants were still open which was make it perfect enjoy your night and the complete experience all in on place...and not have to go anywhere else for eats or drinks. read more

If you want a taste of Vegas but can't travel there, your problem is solved. The Theater is a wonderful venue inside the MGM. Sadly, you will also get a flashback of riding metro during rush hour. The only detail not perfectly executed is entering/exiting the theater. I like showing up early and not feeling stressed. We had tix for an 8pm concert. We got in "line" near the beautiful displays by the hotel entrance at 8pm. It wasn't really a line. I felt like cattle being herded into a small area not meant for everyone at once. The ushers are polite and good "herders." They will kindly direct you to smush up close to all the new friends you are making while you slowly shuffle into a smaller roped off area that will take you into the theater. I can't imagine Vegas having this issue. Why can't we have a larger area with more roped off lines so we can chat with our neighbors and not rub noses with them? The Theater holds 3,000 people so the "entering" process is gonna take a while. Apparently showing up an hour early still means you will still get crushed in the crowd. Take as little items as you can. A small backpack purse or something that will fit snug on your arm is much easier in a large crowd. You can put your coat on your seat. The ushers are friendly, experienced and super polite. They will quickly direct you to your section. If you don't want to wait for the single toilet bathroom closest to the bar area downstairs, take the escalator upstairs where you will have less of a line and more room. There are bars upstairs as well. The theater itself is awesome. Take time to look up and see the fancy lighting. We have been in the very last row and on the floor. The view is okay from the highest seats (you don't even need oxygen). The floor area is amazing. There isn't really a bad view in the space but pay attention to partially obstructed seats. There are some chairs in the front three rows closest to the stage, that can be blocked by speakers (house left, stage right). It would be really disappointing to pay hundreds of dollars for an artist and only see half of the act - up close. I am not positive that the web site lists obstructed views. If you are splurging to see someone on your bucket list, you may want to call the box office and make sure you aren't looking at a speaker or wall. You will pay casino prices for drinks and snacks. The stage level isn't carpeted so you can slip on spilled drinks The staff members are great about cleaning up any liquids once they know about it. Take a look at the "no-no's" regarding photography. My zoom lens was mistaken for a telephoto lens, which must not be allowed. The music was so loud that all I could hear the usher say was, "blah, blah, blah" but I guessed it was my lens since no was with a cell phone was approached. We were attending a Joe Bonamassa performance. I saw a lot of people leaving during the last song to avoid the rush. His music was amazing and we stayed until the last note. When a performance is over, you will be herded through the hotel entrance (with the giant lion outside). The closest casino entrances are blocked off after a show. It is logistically easier to walk through The District and grab a bite in the food areas or shop at a store before attempting to find your car or return to the casino. The elevator area will be packed. The closest security area to re-enter the casino will be jammed too. If you are used to being at metro center any weekday with single tracking, you will feel right at home. A little planning will help make your experience more enjoyable. Parking is free (for now). I really hope that the casino doesn't get greedy and charge for parking in the future. There are 5,000 parking spaces nearby. Do the math. The theater holds 3,000 people. I have no clue what capacity is in the casino. Not everyone using the garage is attending a show. We arrived three hours early to find a parking space (there were 150 spaces left) on a Saturday night. Valet parking is $25 for 12 hours. Make sure you write down the section of where you parked. It is really easy to get lost. If you are visiting the casino before a show, make sure that you follow the signs to The Theater or take "practice walk" to know where you need to go. I was surprised that not all of the MGM employees even knew where the theater was located. They charge the same service fee as Ticketmaster at the box office - what a ripoff. You cannot avoid the mandatory 30% or more service fees - bait and switch pricing. This should be illegal. read more

Long lines to check in and long lines at the bar. Small seats and no coat check to be found. Restroom on the bottom floor is nasty dirty. Check in line did move fast though disorganized. read more
