I've been here just once before and really enjoyed the place. Decided to take some friends who were visiting from the US and it was perfect. The garden was so very nice and the sun was out. It can get busy but we were able to find a table for four in the sun. There were dirty dishes from the previous patrons and took a little bit of time for them to get cleared. Order inside and give them your table number. 4/5 Pepperoni pizza - they have a pizza oven and it tasted very nice. Very good pizza. 3/5 Mixed Sunday roast - was just ok. Still not a fan of Sunday roast. 4/5 Burrata salad - nice cheese 3/5 Squid bites - just ok Would definitely take out of towners here. Great setting both indoors and outdoors. read more

great to have the T, our local, back on form after years of problems. They survived Covid after new management and have been able to create a new atmosphere, menu and consistency in delivery, plus good, enthusiastic staff. I always felt there was potential in this place, having lived almost next door for 9 years. It was actually written off as an option in 2017 after disastrous food and fortunately the new owners have turned this around and the fact i cannot get a reservation for brunch tomorrow is testament to their success in delivery. Only thing I miss is that despite all the space they got rid of the piano, and the music nights. Perhaps they will consider these again. It could be a great summer concert venue with a bit of planning. read more

The Telegraph has been reborn. A historic site, which now offers a contempory and stylish setting within a traditional country pub, in the heart of Putney Heath, hence "Your Country Pub in London". The Telegraph offers classic food, a wonderful wine list and great British ales. There is food in the evening and all day on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. They have a curry night on Thursdays, Blues club on Friday's, film club Mondays and cycling club Saturdays. read more

It was a lovely surprise to find this 'country pub' in London, nestled amongst trees on the edge of Putney Heath. As a soothing approximation of the actual thing, it's a very enjoyable novelty. Nice big pub garden and large rooms decorated in a traditional pub style. The food was average. I recommend a cycle trip or walk out this way - Putney Heath, Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common are all nearby and all beautiful. I expect a weekend lunch at the Telegraph would fit nicely into an active, outdoorsy sort of a day. read more

Staff were really friendly and attentive. The COVID measures in place made us feel safe, we ate outdoors and online ordering was seemless. The menu options were not just standard, there was a very interesting range of flavours available for a lot of different diets. As a vegetarian this was much appreciated. Some of the sides with the mains could have been slightly improved but nothing to remotely ruin the experience. We also shared some excellent desserts for the table, I'd highly recommend the cheesecake which we only ordered on account of another dessert having sold out, blessing in disguise! read more

I'm not sure that I would think of The Telegraph as a quaint olde-english pub - but it's surroundings certainly make you feel as though you've travelled down country lanes to reach it. Putney Heath has a very rural feel and you definitely feel that it is miles away from the centre of London. The pub itself is very spacious and there is plenty of space for parking. We visited today for the first time - and it's obviously a very popular place for Sunday lunch, especially on a lovely sunny day as it was today. Inside and out the place was absolutely packed and, although we had booked a table, it was a real scrum to get to the bar to place our order. However, the food was good and the portions reasonably generous; the veg could have been cooked for just a tad longer - although we all prefer our veg under cooked rather than over - and the condiments (in our case mint sauce and apple sauce) were served on the plate rather than in a separate dish, so it was too bad if you preferred your roast lamb or roast pork without these trimmings! I will certainly go back again, but I may choose to go at a less-busy time and day. read more

Excellent find during a walk from Wandsworth to Wimbledon. Very large country-style pub that has been there since the early 19th Century. The choice of beer/ale in London pubs is a perennial disappointment. The standard options seem to be mass-produced rubbish or horrendously over-priced imports from the US or Europe in cringeworthy theme bars. In this respect, The Telegraph is really fantastic, with a large selection of beers from Sussex, Cornwall, Kent and elsewhere. Friendly efficient service, a clean interior with high ceilings, a huge beer garden and a location that feels very remote and unspoiled yet is in fact not far from one of the busiest motorway arteries in south west London. It also seemed quite child/family friendly, if you are that way inclined. I've knocked a star off, because the food looked pretty average, even a bit poor - mostly heavy on fried staples accompanied by anemic chips and limp salad. The menu seemed ok, with some fairly interesting though quite expensive sharing platters that would probably be safe enough. I hasten to add that we didn't actually eat anything, but were certainly not enticed to do so in the future. read more

Came here on Saturday for fish and chips. The pub has a nice atmosphere with plenty of leather sofas to lounge in while you enjoy a pint and some food. Also has a nice dining room area. The music playing in the background is similar to cheap American hotel elevator/lobby music and doesn't quite fit the surroundings and patrons. Would probably just return for drinks only and would pass on dining here again. read more

The Telegraph Inn underwent a renovation a couple of years ago, where it received a much needed facelift inside and out. It describes itself as a country pub in the city, which is pretty accurate as it sits away from any major developments just half a mile down from Putney Heath (or a mile up the hill from Putney Mainline station). In fact this strength is also a weakness, because it can take a while to get to from Putney unless you visit by car or bike (or the 424 bus). The interior is upmarket and spacious, and the large beer garden at the front is elegant and has extensive seating. The staff are friendly and helpful. The pub welcomes cyclists, making it a great place to visit after a bike ride in nearby Wimbledon Common or Richmond Park. I would describe the menu as upmarket British pub food, with main courses around the £10 mark, including steak and chips, sausages and mash, fish and chips, salmon, omelettes, plus and selection of sandwiches, starters, and deserts. All of these are presented well and are handmade on site much better than some of the pre-packaged dishes you'll find at other pubs. Excellent Sunday lunches are also served, but these can be popular so consider arriving earlier in the afternoon as these sometimes run out. Drinks wise they serve a good selection of real ales, including Adnams, plus a range of lagers, bottled beers, and an extensive wine list. Recommended if you fancy a relaxing drink in the almost countryside. read more

I'm a South East girl, and West London and I aren't exactly the best of friends. It's difficult to get to, everything is different and it confuses me. But a trip to The Telegraph might just sway my opinion. As other reviews have mentioned, it's sold as a country pub in the city. And that's exactly what it is. It feels like a country pub. A very well-to-do one with children called Constance and Horatio running around, but still. The food was excellent, we shared platter board with everything from calamari to chorizo and bread. Everything tasty. Even if I couldn't bring myself to eat the prawns in their shells (the term 'brain juice' was coined that afternoon, shudder). Boards were a tenner each, which is really good value. Mains were around the £13 mark, and they all sounded super tasty. It got a little bit nippy, so we only stayed for one drink with dinner, but there's enough space outside that even if it were very busy, you'd likely still find a seat. You've got a five minute walk through the heath to get here, I imagine that passing trade isn't something The Telegraph have much of. That's OK, I'm plotting to go back and eat more of their tasty food. read more

Pub-like food with a pub-like service. Even the lights are a little harsh (though decor-wise they are a good idea). How "lamb leg" can have as a result some water-boiled thin tasteless slices of "something", I will never understand. But then, I'm not a real Brit ;) read more

It happens to be in the park, but that's about it. Nothing wrong with the food. We had fish and chips + bangers and mash. Nothing to rave about though, and prices are normal for the area. Vibe was okay, but not like the country pubs I have been too. That's all I have to offer, it didn't make any kind of impression on me. read more

Love hiding in the cove next to the fire. Such a warm cosy place. Have been here so many times in the past. From wakes to leaving doos in the upstairs area. To just stopping off after a long walk on the common or just fancying a bit of space. Wonderful food. Lovely decor. Free parking. Kids and pets are welcome. read more

Fantastic location & good beer

It truly is a country pub in London, being located in Putney Heath makes you feel as if you are outside London. They have a large garden outside which is absolutely packed in summer. Because is situated next to Wimbledon Common and not far from Richmond Park, it is the perfect place for a pitstop to refuel on your cycling day trip. We are fortunate enough to have it as our local pub, a few years back was a bit run down, but the new management did wonders with it and completely turned it around. Absolutely love the fireplace room, specially in winter evenings after a hard working day, what better way to relax than having a drink with your other half and friends, next to a crackling open fire? The pub is popular with all age groups, and many young families with kids come here because it's a great place where they can catch up with friends and have some nice food, whilst the kids can run around playing and making new friends. Dog are also welcome and you will always find a bowl of water or ask for one. The food is absolutely gorgeous, from platters to desserts, no matter what you order. They really can satisfy even the fussiest eater. Everything is cooked from fresh, the soups are delicious and the steaks are to die for. The food quality is excellent and the prices are average. Sunday lunches are extremely popular and delicious, all the roast are properly cooked and not boiled in a bag, but do reserve a table or go early because is very very busy and by 3-4pm will be no roasts left. On the drink front you find everything, from beer to spirits. They have new ales all the time, the beer is good and the wine is at set price no matter what wine is. Spirits are a bit on the pricey side. The staff is brilliant, they are always smiling, friendly and helpful. It also is a perfect venue for birthday parties, christenings and weddings. We had our wedding at The Telegraph and was absolutely brilliant. We had the first floor (which got its own bar and toilets) for our party. The food was amazing and the staff went out of their way to help us and accommodate everybody. Overall The Telegraph is a great pub, with fantastic food, excellent atmosphere and lovely staff. read more
