Found this place through thee locals!!! Yay came in knowing that the food would be good. Their open later than the Covid Restricted hours!!! Finally people getting back to business! Amanda the Bartender was great. She was nice and attentive! We tried the French Dip SliderS!!!! Pretty good they did forget the cheese lol but besides that they were good. Next the Fish Tacos not bad but room for improvement. Next we took home Yes some food to go! Bleu Cheese Silders with a horseradish Sauce talk about bomb.com So tasty now those were fab. I'll return to try a few other things and just to relax! read more

Poor service. Unfriendly staff who were very rude. Place was filthy. Tables were unclean and floor was sticky and gross. Bathroom was disgusting. I do not recommend. Parking lot is small. Worried and someone would back into my car and damage it. Avoid this place. read more

This is a divey little neighborhood bar and grill where locals meet to enjoy a bite to eat and a drink. The food is nothing fancy but is cooked nicely and made with fresh ingredients. My only complaint was that they make their BLAT (bacon, lettuce. Avocado and tomato) sandwhich on a roll. The bread was very fresh but I prefer a BLT on regular toasted bread. Definitely louder, so if you are not into that probably shouldn't go there. Great food, the nachos, wings, and protein bowl are all very good! And they have the best fish and chips!! They do a lot of bingo and trivia nights too read more

Owner was very rude. I came in solo to just have a drink shoot pool and relax. I am on my cycle and had to fix myself in the bathroom and was accused of doing drugs. Woman owner too you would think she'd have some understanding. Was also harassed by customers as I was trying to just enjoy the company of my self and ofc they didn't get harassed. Really disappointed with the service of this place. Will not be coming back. I literally was on a FaceTime call for over an hour so idk why I was treated this way. Would give 0 stars if I could read more

We liked and frequented the Tav often, til the owner, she humiliated, dissed and was completely rude - yelling at a military veteran. He wasn't drunk and not harming anyone and we witnessed the entire episode. So disgraceful and disrespectful - we left and won't ever go back. read more

I agree with previous posters. I came in for the first time with somewhat limited expectations. I've been to a bunch of Phoenix "dive bars" and really none of them have fit the bill. This place is too clean and has somewhat updated furniture to truly be considered an actual dive bar but they have phenomenal food, service, and cheap drinks. The sign on the wall near the dart board helps add to the appeal to the place but it does seem to lack some personality. I'm glad it's a stand alone business and not like the majority of the strip mall bars we have. It's a smaller place but it wasn't too busy while I was there. read more

Finally came to check this place out. What a gem of a find! Taylor behind the bar is awesome. She is friendly, attentive and actually seems to care about her guests!! My husband and I have been looking for a friendly neighborhood bar and I am happy to say we have found it. I am excited about this place and can't wait to come back. Used to love this place, haven't been in months and there was a blonde bartender I've never seen. I ordered a mixed shot and this bartender said "this bitch" and rolled her eyes. Atleast walk away if you're gonna talk crap. So naturally we left her no tip and as we're walking out she wants to start talking crap. I use to vibe with all the bartenders but this one acts like she's too good for everyone. Truley ruined our time. read more

I'll go with 3 stars because the food was AWESOME. Like truly really good and not to bad on price too. Service was.. good from our server. But the bar owner? Idk or maybe manager standing at the end of the bar talking about puking and making gagging noises talking about old stories and stuff. Dark ambiance little dive bar which i love about neighborhood bars but truly couldn't finish my meal because of the puke gagging noises and talking about the consistency of there throw up from past weekends. Definitely was skeptical at first, but the Tav is such a great establishment! We've driven past many times and finally stopped in. Had we known how great the atmosphere was, we would have much sooner! Our amazing waitress, Summer, recommended the wings & they did not disappoint! Truly a locals bar. Fun hangout. I can see why this ticked away tavern has a full parking lot. Bloody Mary was on point! Plenty of great specials too. First time at Tav. Met a few guys for a bite and brews. Arrived at 5:30 PM on a Friday and it was 1/2 full. Tina greeted me after a while. The beer selection was very limited, unless she just didn't want to cover them all. There were standard pool tables, some video games and a few TV's around the place. Pretty dive-ey really but I didn't pick the place. I ordered a beer (on happy hour) and wings (no happy hour between 5-8 PM). Weird. The wings were not breaded, yay. They were not very tasty though, boo. They weren't really crisp and were way too over sauced, creating a quagmire in my tray. You can't replace good flavor with a lot of sauce. Tina had a bit of trouble keeping up with the orders and we had to seek her out twice just to get service, despite the owner coming to our table and chatting with us for quite a while. Not recommended at this time. read more

The BEST bar I ever been to, Karoke was so much fun, the food was AMAZING, onion rings were onion ringing, the server was amazing, I will be coming every Friday from now on. If you're young and hot DONT GO HERE YOU WILL BE TREATED POORLY I have noticed a trend of the bartenders kicking out girls in their 20s for no reason or barely valid ones like being loud (read reviews below)! The first time I tried going here the bartender who was in my opinion drunk, messy hair, and was wearing someone's happy birthday sash kicked us out because she didn't like my friend ID. She's 22 had the brand new AZ ID and we did nothing except sit down. After refusing service they refused to give her ID back we called the police on them and as soon as we told them they made us stand outside like fully kicked us out while we waited for law enforcement to show up and afterwards were told not to come back at all! (As if we'd want to?!) When all we did was ask for a drink and present LEGAL IDs! Aka the bartenders don't like competition/ sharing attention of pretty girls in the bar because if you read the reviews it's always pretty girls getting kicked out for doing nothing not girls girls and a truly trashy establishment! (maybe it takes from their tips??!? Bc they kinda ugly in there) AGAIN If you're young and hot DONT GO HERE YOU WILL BE TREATED SO BAD This was the WORST experience I've ever had in a bar pls save your money and go literally anywhere else! We actually love the Tav, however we will never come back thanks to the cunty bar tender! She was UNBELIEVABLY rude to my friends and I as we walked inside the place. She immediately shouted at us to get out and that she was not going to service us. It was completely out of pocket. The cunty brown haired girl who acted like the manager! First time at the Tav. For starters, the ambiance is a throwback. I absolutely loved to feel of the place. We experienced exceptional service from our bartender. Also, the food was great. I had a cheesesteak sandwich. I'd never put Jalapeños on one before, but now my life has changed and I will alway do so from now on. I also threw down on some wings. They were pretty good. I visited on a Sunday afternoon (NFL playoffs). It was recommended as a place to check out from a bartender at CAPS. Everyone I engaged with - bartenders and patrons - was great. I had no intention of eating there, but a regular convinced me to try the food, and I did. I got the French Dip to go, and was pleasantly surprised. It's not a huge sandwich, more bread than anything else, but for the price, quality and flavor, it was really good. Good spot to meet some locals (I'm not one). read more

Apparently one is expected to tolerate being verbally harassed and should literally run away from abusive people here. I guess legal recourse only option since rational conversation not respected. It's not a huge bar, probably fits 50 people or so, and it was about 90% at capacity when I was there. They also have one pool table. Seems like the type of place where regulars come, which is always a plus in my book. Service (4.5/5): Our waitress did a great job taking care of us despite being quite busy. She was friendly, efficient, and made some recommendations when I asked for some. Pro tip: they give you a cash discount, so if you'd like to save a little bit, make sure you bring cash. Drinks (4/5): With it being a dive bar, the options are going to be on a simpler side. They had eight or so beers on tap, so not a large selection, but I ended up going with a WOW Wheat. A few local beers, plus some usual suspects like Coors Light, Dos Equis, Modelo, etc. While the selection didn't blow my socks off, the prices are reasonable. That counts for a lot. Food (4.5/5): According to Yelp, Cactus Tavern is known for their quesabirria tacos. Since quesabirria is one of my favorite Mexican foods, I couldn't say no. I'm glad I didn't. You get three quesabirria tacos (birria meat, cilantro, cheese, and onions), fresh off the griddle, served with a green salsa and consommé. These were hands down some of the best birria tacos I've ever had. They were served right off the grill, the meat was flavorful, and the oozy cheese was delicious. With a side of elote (on the cob), it made for the perfect meal. This is not your typical bar food, y'all. It's a notch or two above. I was pleasantly surprised. And like the drinks, the food prices are affordable too. Pro tip #2: if you're looking for deals beyond the cash discount, they have daily discounts on various items including a burger and a pint, Philly cheesesteak, etc. depending on the day.

It's taken me a couple of days to write this because I am still in shock by the way my group was treated by the owner of The Tav. We have been going to the Tav for several years and have always had a good experience. Unfortunately, this time over shadowed any previous good feelings. Our waitress was new and told us so. Consequently, things were forgotten..no big deal. We didn't complain or question her. We were patient and kind. When our food arrived, my friend still had not gotten his utensils that he asked for. He went up to the bar and asked and then saw that there was a container with the wrapped utensils and grabbed one and came back to the table. Then all hell broke loose. The owner of the establishment came to our table and started yelling at him while pointing her finger in his face. He tried to explain and she said she didn't want to hear it and walked away. Weirdly, not one of us argued, yelled back..nothing. I think we were all in shock. We were finishing up our appetizers. We did not order any more drinks as we wanted to get out of there. The owner comes over AGAIN and start yelling at my friend again. It was unhinged. We quickly got the bill, scrambled for some cash as to get out as quickly as we could. The waitress apologized to us. We gave her a $20 on a $60 bill because it wasn't her fault her boss lost her mind. As we were walking out..she followed us out yelling obscenities. One of which was we were all "ugly F'N C&nts". Class act, she is. I don't know what would possess a sane human being to treat others the way we were treated. If she didn't like my friend taking the utensil..so many better ways to handle it. Even asking us to leave..that is her right. Instead, she wanted to yell and scream. It felt like she was putting on a show for her regulars. When I got home, I looked at other reviews and really all the negative reviews focused on this woman. What a terrible human being. I would encourage anyone reading to cross the Tav off your list--I wouldn't put one more dime in her pocket. read more

Table of four sitting near us. Suffering from a severe dose of entitlement! Brought outside food to a bar that serves food then determined they were so important that they could just go up to the bar demand something and not wait two seconds for the bartender to provide it and just stormed back into an employees only space to get what they wanted.
