My wife and I loved this place! The waitress was super helpful and the food was delicious. We got the juicy special boil which was fantastic. We couldn't take anything away but were able to add to it. We added some sausage, which was great as well! With the seasoning, we went with the one that was the mix of stuff, and it was great. I've been there are three times because it is one of the only places that I know of to get seafood boil. The first time was good. The second time was OK. The third time was not good. The atmosphere the last in time that I went, which will be completely the last time I'll never go again was not for me. They were playing some sort of annoying music that sounded like you were trapped inside of a video game on waiting mode. You know when the avatar is just like bouncing around it felt like somebody was piercing your brain the Jus (sauce) was extremely watery. It just was not good sorry. The last time that I ever went there when they were playing that music, there were three tables there that asked if they could please change the music in the guy wouldn't change it. And I understand every business has the right to play whatever music they want, but all three of the tables were discussing how it sounded like we were trapped in a video game. I won't be going back. Definitely crabby but tangy they are not. Tangy crab is a family owned chain with restaurant locations found around Michigan. TC is a Cajun style seafood boil. This location strikes me like the gimmicky, seafood chain eateries. Think of places like Pepe's, Long John Silvers or Pizza hut. The decor and design accents are playing up the feels of seafood restaurants found nearby resorts. The interior design makes me reminiscent of the late 1990's. The menu is straightforward. If going with seafood boil: choose your sauce mix, then your seafood options and fixins' that will also go into the bag. Extras such as noodles, cut potatoes, corn or sausages. Additionally the menu offers a number of fried seafood items, sandwiches and other fare commonly found in seafood restaurants. A group of four of us, we ordered an a la carte boil. The waiter recommended her favorites, wings and some fried crab balls. The wings were as good as she'd stated. We requested them without breading, fried with sauce. Somehow the crab balls came out though I know we weren't interested in having those. And now that I think about it, despite confirming our order for specific seafood items they threw in corn and potatoes as well. This makes me wonder whether they have certain boil creations ready to go and opt to using that as a starter and then adding on whatever is on your order. Their menu suggests ordering from one of their curated boils and there are a couple to choose from with a fixed price attached. Best deals for the spend if you aren't picky with offerings. As far as the boil goes, the eats are not heavy. Steamed seafood that's been tossed in a oil based mixture. Easy eats with minimal work. With our order we went with the "Tangy special blend" that's a mix of all their seasonings which they suggested is the most commonly ordered. Decent for a Louisiana boil found in Saginaw. If there's a return for dinner, next time I'd opt to trying a po'boy, some gumbo and more fried thangs. read more

Ordered takeout from The Tangy Crab for Mother's Day for a family of four. It was very easy placing the order and we received everything ordered. They even bagged each order separately which was very helpful. The food was pretty average for crab boils and the catfish basket was decent as well. The boiled oysters with their special blend were extremely salty where we couldn't even eat them. Overall the food wasn't bad. However, things turned bad when my daughter discovered The Tangy Crab decided to take a tip out on their own. At the bottom of the receipt are suggested tip amounts. I don't understand establishments requesting tips or even thinking a tip is necessary for takeout. Tipping isn't the problem at all it's the expectation and then taking it upon themselves charge us a tip. We're really good about tipping period. It's just the audacity that has put a really bad taste in our mouths. There was no special gratuity notice displayed. The Tangy Crab needs to explain and rectify this situation. read more

From the reviews, it sounds like this is relatively a new place, so we wanted to give it a try. We give it 4 stars as this is really one of the very few seafood boil places in the area, so we can't technically compare it to some place in the east coast where seafood (especially shellfish) is easily accessible. We came here on half off Margaritas Tuesday. The place is large and relatively empty. Our server is knowledgeable and helpful about the menu and drinks. For every pound of seafood boil, you get a corn and a potato. We got 5 lbs of seafood, and asked for only a couple of corn and potato so we don't waste the food. Our server informed us that the cooks don't speak English so they wouldn't understand what we're asking for, so we should just take the 5 corns and 5 potatoes that it comes with. Yes, we wasted the extra food... Pros: we were seated right away. The fried food is very crispy and tastes like it was freshly out of the fryer. The sweet and sour sauce goes surprisingly well with the fried calamari. Margarita was also very good. Opportunities for improvement for the restaurant: 1. For the extra corn and potatoes that we didn't need, it might just be as simple as a corn + potato per person with free refills 2. The clams are quite small. They're not little necks, they're more like button clams. Still delicious but little back clams would have been nicer 3. King crab legs are saltier than expected, so I'd recommend not cooking it in salted water. We would probably come back when we get another seafood kick. read more

The Tangy Crab recently opened in Saginaw. It is an interesting place. The food is exactly the way it sounds. You can either choose a boil or create your own boil. The boils will come out in a plastic bag. They have other items such as seafood po boys and appetizers. For the most part, the food was good. You should know, there is not surf and turf. It is Seafood and that is it. I think there may have been a chicken po boy. But there is no steak. Being it was a very new business our server did not know enough about the menu. Pretty much nothing. The waitress said she could not ask the cooks and questions as they do not speak English. Interesting, but whatever. They have a liquor license. However, the bartender was not versed in making drinks. One very important note to make. You absolutely can not send food back if you don't like it and get a refund. It is in plain English on the menu. The server will also remind you. So this is not a place to try something you may have never had. All in all it was a good experience. We will wait about six months and let them work the kinks out before going back. read more

There was a snow storm today and I waited until I it was over to try and go order some food ahead of time. The roads were terrible. I made an order 30 minutes before closing (which they agreed to take my order) and arrived at the shop 12 minutes before closing. They were outside locking up. If you advertise that you are open for a specific time, and willing to take an order within that timeframe, please don't close early, especially if the customer is risking a lot to come to the restaurant. The first review said they would wait six months for things to get better, if I opened a new business, I would try to get every dollar, and unlike the first review, I am not waiting six months. This is the best cajan food we've had by far!! Even better then in the South. Every piece of food was cooked to perfection!! I'm hard on the cooks and staff when the food is shit but thins place was recommended to us by our daughter and Boyfriend!! You cause pick out what spices level you wanted. Crab, shrimp, potatoes, corn and sausage, mussels were spot on. The place was packed for a Sunday lunch. Fast service and no mistakes for all the different stuff we ordered!! I went w a friend for lunch. The place is huge...and empty. The lobster bisque was very very thick and lacked flavor. Cheese on top of my bisque no thanks please!. My side salad was a large amount of finely shredded lettuce w 4 croutons and 4 mini tomatoes. The prefilled ranch container was only 2 Oz and half filled not even close to enough dressing for a side salad at 1 Oz of ranch. I get side salads often. For $6 it was one of the worst I have ever had. My crab bites were not deep fried or not left in long enough. The crab stuffing is only inside. It was cold and uncooked. Again lacked taste even though I can see real crab inside. Maybe they r ment to be uncooked inside? The boiled pots r what you should get. The sausage in the pot is good. Almost tasts like hormel sausage. The shrimp is good. All has excellent flavor. Mussels were large and tender. I will go back and skip appetizers, soup and side salad. We had such a wonderful service. I wish I could remember the name of the hostess who seated us. She was so accommodating and carefully went over the menu with us. We ran into some friends unexpectedly, on a Wednesday night and asked to switch to sit with them. It was no problem for this staff and then we asked for a bigger table as the food came out, they were so accommodating. Our server was Merissa and she was incredible. There was nothing we could have thought of that she hadn't already offered. She anticipated our needs before we had them. We followed some of her recommendations and they were spot on. We went with the traditional boil with the tangy sauce (a house specialty, recommended by Merrisa). It was excellent. The atmosphere was wonderful. I can't say enough about the excellent service that we received. The restaurant was exceptionally clean, the staff was friendly and kind. The food was delicious and kudos to the bartender tonight.
