    Tamale con Chillaquiles
    Rachel K.

Explosive flavors, cute decor, and exceptional service. Came here with a good friend on a random weekday afternoon after both of us discussing wanting to go here for a while. We ordered the beef red chile tamale "solo style", tamales con chilaquiles, and chips and salsa. I believe the prices are very fair for the portions and would rather come here over Chipotle if only it were closer to me. I got my beef tamale with a side of rice and beans. It was so delicious and filling. I even had some to take home. For less than $15 I say this was a very generous portion. My friend and I both LOVED the salsa. It was so fragrant and wonderful. If I'm able to come again soon, I'm gonna buy a jar for home. It's seriously tasty!

So I came here the other with a friend of mine. And I have been wanting this place for a very long time. I got the tamale with chilaquiles- and I have to say it was not very tasty. The masa was very dry and plain. But I have to say the meat was very good. The service was good- you go in and order and they bring your plate out. The drinks are self served. The ladies were very nice. The place is cute has a market style. Do have to say the chips and salsa were great!!

After seeing several of their social media posts, we knew we had to check out The Tamale Store, and it did not disappoint! We stopped by on a Sunday for brunch, and as soon as we walked in, I thought, "what a cool place!" They have tons of branded merch on display and an open kitchen where you can see them putting the food together. It's a walk-up style counter where you place your order and then grab a seat. We ordered the two-tamale plate with two sides. For our tamales we chose the red pork and green chile chicken. The portions are seriously no joke! My husband and I shared the plate and were both totally stuffed! The tamales are huge and so flavorful. Before we left we also grabbed a dozen frozen tamales to go (we went for a variety!) and can't wait to try them all!! So, if you're a tamale lover, this is a must! Bonus: you can even order online and have them shipped to your door!

I was tasked with picking up a catering order for my wife's Christmas party. My first impression when I walked through the door was wow this place smells awesome! The order had a good variety of tamales, rice, beans, chorizo potatoes, chips and salsa. It was all delicious. Picked up some frozen Hatch and Jack tamales to take home as they are my favorite. I want to come back when I can actually eat in-house. If you like tamales this is definitely the place!

Hands down best tamales I've ever had. The two tamale and two side platter is the way to go, as you will be full and have leftovers to take home, and plus it comes with chips and salsa. The rojo salsa was ao good that we bought a jar to take home. Can't wait to go back and try their different tamales. Service was friendly and fast, and the inside was cute with the little shop in the back.

I stopped by before the lunch rush hour because they tend to sell out of certain tamales and are left with only frozen tamales that are for sell in the Mercado. Their red chili beef and green chili chicken are both so good! They didn't have sweet corn tamales that day (My Favorite) so I opted for a sweet corn cookie but the cookie was ok not great. The restaurant is beautiful and it's decorated nicely, I find myself staring at everything lol. The fountain drinks are unlimited and include agua frescas :)

We tried the tamales first at the farmers market and immediately loved them. Decided to give the restaurant a try and it did not disappoint. These tamales are as close to my Nana's as anyone has gotten. I got the green Chile pork fundido style with street corn and a chorizo and pap a tostada. My husband got the double style with beans and papas w/ chorizo. Both were amazing. Service was good and the restaurant was decorated beautifully. Now. We will be coming back for brunch because I want my tamale wrapped in an egg!! We took a dozen home with us!! Go eat here!!

On our way back into town looking for boba tea, we happen to cross paths with The Tamale Store! So glad this was near by because we've been trying to check this place out for a while. I usually get tamales from the Gilbert Farmers Market. Entering the store, you walk into a market place filled with all your Mexican ingredients and snacks- salsas, tortillas, candy, and frozen tamales. The store also has other menu items such as chilaquiles and posole. We ended up getting a red chili pork, red beef, green chicken tamales and posole. All had green flavor! The salsa were also a hit to add on the tamales. Next time, I would try the chilaquiles. Staff were great. Fast service. I'd come back again!

My parents have been telling me about this spot for a while and i was finally able to stop in and experience for myself. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Perfect if you're going out with friends. They also have a Mercado where you can buy their salsas, frozen tamales, and Mexican sweets. I ordered the doble tamale plate that came with my choice of tamales and two sides. I ordered both pork, one red and one green. For the sides I got street corn and a chorizo y papas tostada. I was shocked at the amount of food for the price. I ate the tostada and most of the corn and only one bite of each tamal. I was stuffed! We also ordered a pumpkin tamal that was rich and delicious! Ten out of ten recommend from the food to the service, if you're in the area don't sleep on the tamale store!

This place is so stinking cute and so dang delicious! I live in the east valley but it's totally worth the drive to come up. The tamales are absolutely delicious. The masa was so soft and moist and the filling was so flavorful and delicious. I got the southwest veggie tamale and it was to die for. The side of rice and beans I got was also so tasty. I picked up jamaica flowers, salsa, and a two pack of tamales from the store and it was only 28$ which I thought was a steal! The employees were all so nice and welcoming. This is such a gem and I will definitely be making the drive out here again. Plus- the tamales are GF and my husband with celiac had no issues.

Tamale Chasm would have been a better name. The ceiling is at least 15 feet high. If you look at the pictures, you will get an idea of how big it is overall. With all the space, the decorations fill it nicely. In the heat of summer, you will appreciate the outdoor feel it has. A menu board has the main dishes. You pick out the main part of your meal from the big board. Below are boards that list the sides. Most main dishes come with two sides. In most restaurants, more than half the sides would be up-charges. With these, they are included. You get your hot sauce from a condiments bar, which consists of a big bottle of Valentin Hot Sauce. Plastic silverware with napkins, plastic cups, and covers for the aluminum plates, most of the meal is served in. The restaurant is clean and quiet. Placing your order is easy, but the staff is very helpful if it isn't . Before you get to your Tamales, you can have Abodongas soup (meatball soup). You can also choose a tostada or eolote (Mexican-style corn). The restaurant is clean. The tile in the bathrooms looks dirty, but they are not. The lack of air conditioning makes them humid, and it seems as though they smell. There is no odor. Negative things are disposable dishes, no packets, but one big bottle of Valentina hot sauce at the condiment table, plastic silverware, no printed menus, and bathrooms that aren't air-conditioned. It does not pretend to be anything or offer you more than a big selection, value, great-tasting food, and cleanliness. They do not need a band. They have got all the essentials. They could get the final star with those little extras mentioned before. As it is, this is a great place to go. I highly recommend it.

Wish I knew about this place when I was buying all those tiny mass produced Tamales at Costco... These are by far THE BEST award winning Tamales. (OK I'm not sure about the awards, but I'd award them for sure). Dozen huge, thick full filled Tamales fot $45. And don't foforget the pooch! Frozen Tamales for the doggies! Flavors range from green chilli Chicken or Pork, red or mole beef. Veggies only and corn and cream cheese..

The restaurant is inside of an old brick home with wood interior and warm colors. The service was good-- friendly and food came out at a good pace, we were checked on regularly. We ordered an appetizer and then entrees from the lunch menu. The aguachile appetizer is SO good. It's bright, fresh, and has a lot of flavor in the green sauce. It reminds me of a ceviche type dish due to its raw butterflied shrimp that is marinated in the house made chile serrano & cilantro citrus sauce. It was awesome. We were also given free chips & house made bean dip. I ordered the mixed two item plate with a chile rellano and taco corazon (grilled taco dipped in a red chile sauce, stuffed with shredded beef & melted cheese. Topped with grilled onions). The black beans and rice is also tasty. I tried a bite of the other dishes, and I also really liked the brightly colored spinach & cheese enchiladas with pink sauce ( signature beet sauce). I look forward to trying other items from the menu, I was eyeing the steak Mexicano or red snapper. Those dishes sound good for dinner.

One of my favorite salsas was hibiscus. We enjoyed our quick happy hour so much that we hope to come back for dinner as I see Mole is on the menu. The staff was super friendly and attentive. I hear that they have open a second venue not too far from the original place. They have an event venue. Their original place is in a former church. The architecture inside is very interesting due to the roof structure.

This review is for the totality of the experience…read more I made an advance reservation at Alma Scottsdale for a mid-sized group of 7 to celebrate a special occasion. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.
