This place used to be really good, however within the last year quality has declined. The Fresh Rolls with shrimp were my favorite. The price has increased and they've resorted to stuffing more lettuce into them to make you think you are getting more. I'd rather pay more for good tasting food than to have a mouthful of rusty lettuce. The spice levels for medium should be extra hot, as the last 3 times I ordered the food ended up being way too spicy for me to enjoy. A hidden gem in a somewhat hard to access mini strip mall on Ford Rd, The Takeout Box is a to-go only Hmong/Thai kitchen serving fresh and flavorful Asian favorites. I was excited to try the Hmong Kapoon Noodles, but unfortunately, they were out. I opted instead for a Tom Yum soup, some chicken satay, beef kushiyaki, green curry and a pho...yeah, a lot I know, but I was indecisive and figured leftovers wouldn't go to waste. EVERYTHING was well portioned and delicious! The satay peanut sauce was well balanced, the Tom yum soup was adequately spicy and not overly sour, the green curry was full of veggies with a luscious coconut gravy, and the rich, flavorful pho broth and tender beef slices really solidified the 5th star in my review. Tbh, I generally steer clear of places that use the term 'fusion' as it often means the flavors of the parent cuisines have been diluted down, but The Takeout Box delivered sophistication and authenticity in each dish I ordered. I have been looking forward to trying this restaurant and I was not disappointed. I liked the atmosphere which was bright and uplifting.  This is mainly a takeout restaurant but still offers plenty of tables for inside dining. The restaurant offers mainly Thai offerings.  The other offerings are which are few in number are Hmong, Vietnamese, and Japanese.  We had Tom Yum absolutely spot on.  Tornado potato - a spiral cut potato fried.  They provide a multitude of seasonings.  We topped it with Japanese mayo - Yum. Next the Pork Belly bao.  Very tasty.  Each order comes with 2 sandwiches.  They make them with hoisin sauce.  I would have them plain or another type sauce.  The hoisin was a bit overwhelming. The Hmong sausage was very juicy and served with rice steamed in a banana leaf.  Not a fan of the rice. Anyone who is Asian, you will love it.  On this dish I feel the price point is too high. Our ending dish was Hmong Kapoon rice noodle.  I thought it was good but there seemed something was missing in it. The family that owns the restaurant are Hmong with a lot of experience.   Note : we went to this restaurant at 7:30 PM on a Friday.  Very busy with take out and dine in.  There will be a wait but well worth it. read more

I've always been wanting to try this place out and today, decided to treat myself & family on Valentine's Day. Ordered through Door Dash and the food was delivered quick and was hot when it arrived. I ordered the Drunken Noodles (Mild, the menu said mild was like a mild pepper, and was the 2nd option before mild+)...the noodles were flavorful but the spice....it was like upper lip & forehead sweat spice. I would've considered it hot if anything. I still loved the flavor and the shrimp and noodles were cooked perfectly. I also ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp, I was surprised that it looked like popcorn shrimp, was hoping for a full size shrimp like the pic. It tasted good but not the best BB Shrimp I had. It came with a side of rice but unfortunately it was dry and needed extra water when made. I ordered the pork belly buns & chicken buns and those were decently good. The bun part was fluffy and soft and had a great taste. All in all, I think it's a decent place and would try it again, maybe with spice on the side and cook my own rice. this place is sooo good! It makes you wonder why there aren't more like it. The few dishes I order from here are my favorite takeout meals. The only non positive thing I could say is that I wish they would deliver their food themselves so I didn't have to pay for Door Dashes mark up or wait for the Door Dash delivery times. This was our first time ordering from The Takeout Box and we decided to use their website to make our selections. You get a nice little discount by doing so. The order was dropped off about 5-10 minutes earlier than their estimated arrival--about 40 minutes--not bad for a Friday night! The order was accurate and all of the dishes were hot, fresh and presented well. We ordered 9 different items so that we could try a wide representation of their menu but there was a lot of items that tempted us that we'll have to get some other time. Their spring rolls came two to an order and they were light, crunchy and had a nice vegetable mix. The Pork Belly Bao Buns were soft and delicious. Their Fresh Rolls really stood out. My wife gobbled both up without leaving much for me, which is truly atypical. That's the dish she wants most again soon! I really enjoyed their Crispy Rolls. They were a perfect blend of crunchiness and great flavor. The dipping sauce was excellent. The Drunken Noodles rocked, as did their Pad Thai (with shrimp) and I particularly enjoyed their Thai Fried Rice. Their Hmong Sausage was a treat, as was their Mango Sticky Rice. I'm not necessarily a rice lover but even their sticky rice was terrific--best I've had! I had really never understood why people rave about something like white sticky rice until I tried theirs. We had a lot of leftovers, which were excellent the next day. We ordered various degrees of spice (even "no spice") and felt that their application of spice was spot on to what we asked for. The menu's description of how hot each level actually was seemed very true to life. Our leftovers slightly increased in heat as the dishes had time overnight to soak up sauces and spices. That was a pleasant, expected bonus! We will surely be ordering from The Takeout Box again, and soon. We heartily recommend that you try it yourselves if it seems like your groove. Delivery cost was very reasonable, so knowing us we're likely to get it delivered again. But, I'm pretty sure we'll visit these folks in person someday relatively soon! read more

Just discovered this awesome Asian fusion restaurant right around the corner and have to say we'll definitely be checking it out again soon. Without knowing what to order other than taking some pointers from other reviews we took a stab and got quite a few different things to try out. We started with the fresh roll which was amazing! It had shrimp and cilantro with others veggies and a peanut sauce in a fresh thin wrap. We also started with the pork bao buns which I didn't care for at all. They are supposedly one of the favorites but it had a big chunk of fat which kind of grossed me out and stopped after the first bite. We then shared the dynamite shrimp which were amazing! Not too hot and still crispy. The crispy sesame chicken was next and again not one of my favorites but still decent. Finally we had the mango tomato salad which was very tasty. A little spicy but just enough and a little refreshing. Was full by now so only could taste it but seems like it will be good the next day unlike other Asian dishes I'm hoping. Overall we definitely liked our favorites, fresh roll, dynamite shrimp and mango salad to give it 4 stars and a trip back to try other items from their diversified menu. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. The prices were also reasonable. I ordered vegetable Pad Thai and strawberry bubble tea. The Pad Thai was very good. My only complaint with this dish was that I may have chosen the incorrect spice level for my taste. Portion size was large- it will definitely be two meals. The bubble tea is honestly the thing I am most excited about. We have a spot in Ann Arbor that we travel to when we're in the mood for bubble tea because we have never found anything local even remotely as good. I'd say this comes in as a close second for sure.
