Every time we order on Tuesday they short us 4-7 tacos. We order 20 tacos which are packaged 5 to a batch. When unwrapping to eat we find that we are always missing 1 or 2 from each batch. I will start by saying that I really appreciate that restaurants are working so hard during this difficult time and the overwhelming majority of my experiences lately have been great. Unfortunately, Taco Depot was an outlier. It is some of the worst Mexican food I have ever tasted. It seemed as if it is made for people who haven't had real Mexican and are looking for something a half step up from taco bell. We ordered tacos for taco Tuesday and got carnitas, steak and chicken. The meat was bland and didn't taste like it was seasoned for tacos. It was like someone took leftovers from another meal out of the fridge and decided to make tacos with them. They used flour tortillas that tasted like the grocery store brand--not the usual freshly made corn tortillas you get at a lot of more authentic places. Our tacos were supposed to be topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream. There was a lot of lettuce and sour cream and very little cheese and tomato. Just overall bland and not restaurant quality (see photos). I can definitely make something better at home. We also ordered guacamole and chips. You can tell the avocado is mixed with something (maybe sour cream) so you don't get that really tasty guacomole that you get when it's pure fresh avocado. The chips also tasted like bagged chips which was so disappointing because one of the exciting parts about ordering tortilla chips from a restaurant is that they're often freshly made. Taco Depot seems to have a lot of fans but it really was the worst meal I have had in awhile. Maybe it was an off night but with a number of other options around I won't be returning. read more

I am SO FULL! I've never been to The Taco Depot & and I am so glad I went! My daughter and I got to seat ourselves and Brian came right over to give us menus and drinks. We got chips and queso to start off with. Then I ordered the burrito depot steak and it was so delicious. I can only eat half of it. My daughter got a steak quesadilla with no tomatoes. Our order was not only right it was hot and fresh. The interior design was so relaxing and calm that I could just sit there for hours on end, and not want to go anywhere else. It wasn't hot in there. It wasn't cold in there. The restaurant is so clean and immaculate on the inside I did not see that coming. I am so glad there's not a Hardee's there anymore and The Taco Depot took over. I will be back for more. Brian and the gentleman that cook their food are definitely top-notch. I felt very welcomed and appreciated and cared for from one human to another. Always I had some issues with these guys. Only the first visit when i had been there, they were good. Earlier I was mad at their servers and services. But today, I am upset, with just messing up my order. after working all morning, I ordered a takeout and they gave me a wrong order. And asked me to come back, which was ok but then the Mexican guy was very rude. As if he was doing a favor on me by giving me a correct order. I wasted my entire lunch hour going back n forth because someone didn't check what they were packing. Just a little spot in a strip mall that's worth your time. I started coming here at the recommendation of a friend, and now it's my go to stop every week for dinner! My typical order is a few of their Taco Depot, chicken with sour cream and avocado salsa. But on $1 taco night you bet I'll order a few of the $1 tacos and add salsa from their traveling salsa bar! They bring out a rack with 4 salsas (including their avocado salsa) with your meal so you can customize the heat! If you're unsure, come on taco Tuesday when their Taco Ramirez (meat, onion, cilantro) is only $1! I've had their house margarita which was good, not too strong or too weak. Not a big drinker, so it's not every time I get a marg. Finally, their queso. It's $4 for a small with chips which is plenty for 2-3 people! Their queso rivals other local spots like Cancun and Mas Margaritas in Marion. TL;DR go to taco depot and get queso and some tacos! read more

In my many trips to both the Edgewood Rd SW and Miller Ave SW locations, the staff has always been super friendly, genuine and attentive. Tacos, drinks and queso c/chorizo are my recommendation. I really want to give this place 5 stars but sadly I cannot. So I'm leaving some room for improvement. It was clean and the atmosphere was wonderful. Service was great! Chips, salsa and queso yummm !! Shrimp and fish tacos ! We also got a beef taco and steak quesadilla. Beef and steak were dry neither was that great. We love Taco Depot 2. The food is SO good. The chorizo queso is delicious, and so are the tacos. I'm not a big fan of the margaritas, but apparently, the pina coladas are excellent. The service is a little slow because it's a small place that doesn't have a ton of staff. One of our favorite fast, delicious places to eat in Cedar Rapids. We'll be back, for sure. read more

The service was good and with the number of customers, plus the drive thru going on, the timing was adequate. Had takeout from this location and was even more disappointed than the first time I went. Rice was HARD and CRUNCHY. Why would they even serve hard rice that is either not cooked well or too old? Salsa was pretty basic. Too watery for my liking but still okay. Steak tacos were also not that great. Meat was hard and I was unsure why they used flour tortillas. Horchata had very little flavor and a strange taste. The only positive thing was the street corn. Very basic to make but it's hard to find elotes in Iowa so this was nice to see. Overall, I likely will not come back. Disappointed in the quality of my food and why they would serve a customer crunchy rice at a Mexican restaurant. A few friends and I decided to try la taqueria out last night for their $1 tacos and margarita flights. I'd first like to say that the place looked very nice on the inside and was packed so we were very excited to try it out. We ordered the chips and salsa/ caso and enjoyed those as our appetizer. When our food came out it looked delicious and it didn't disappoint. For that alone la taquería would have gotten a 5/5. The reason la taquería got a 2/5 was solely based on the $17 margarita flight. I ordered the mango, strawberry, and blue lagoon for my flight and each one was incredible hard to drink. You couldn't taste any tequila and it seemed as the the bartender just poured the flavor into the cup and threw ice in it and served it. The drink was thick and tasted like syrup. I would order the food from this place but from here on out, I'll only be getting water. read more

Me and my husband went today for our three wedding anniversary lunch. I had a fish taco and carnitas taco. The first taco was chopped, very fishy, white fish. Not a fan. My carnitas taco was pretty good but has a few large pieces of fat. My husband had a shrimp taco and steak and chorizo taco. He loves both. The service was wonderful!! I loved the decor!! A new location just opened in Cedar Rapids on Miller Ave SW where the Hardee's used to be. We were eager to give it a try and happy to have another restaurant close to our house but sadly were disappointed with the food. The staff were great, very friendly and you can tell they are doing their best given that the location has only been open a very short time. But the food just isn't up to par. My husband got a steak burrito that had so much cilantro on it that he couldn't taste anything else. I had shrimp tacos and chicken tacos. The shrimp tacos were pretty good but nothing mind blowing. The chicken tacos were the real disappointment, first of all there is zero seasoning on the chicken and second the chicken has the texture of ground chicken so don't expect shredded chicken like I did. I don't think we'll be back unless the food changes, given that it's a new location with new staff there may still be hope for improvement. read more

I went with my boyfriend and this place was amazing!!! We both got 2 tacos and churros and we will definitely be coming back.
