The experience here was so cool. I've rolled sushi before but it was awesome to get professionals to show you how to do it properly and give so many helpful tips! The two chefs that were teaching the class (Sarah and her husband, who's name escapes me) were really fun, personable, and eager to answer my questions. They showed the class all the steps slowly and explained everything clearly. It was easy to follow their directions and they were really helpful when myself or anyone needed help. The sushi we made was the spicy tuna and salmon, avocado, cucumber rolls. They were great choses and very delicious but from my understanding when you book your experience you can choose which rolls you make. The facility was clean and everything we needed was provided to us. Overall, this was a fun experience with great staff and delicious options! Definitely recommend! read more

We learned how to make a spicy tuna roll and a salmon roll With the instructions and demonstration From both chefs. I enjoyed learning how to make different sushi rolls. He made the trip all the way from Connecticut to teach a room full of novices how to craft high-quality rolls. What a fun experience! I had always wanted to learn to make sushi and was so excited when I found out this class was coming to a venue near me. I ended up purchasing 2 tickets as a mother's day gift for my mom, for her and I to do together. Her work schedule ended up conflicting with the date of the class, but fortunately the class was being offered again just a couple of weeks later so I emailed them to ask if I could switch to the other date, and the customer service was top notch. Sara got back to me immediately and helped me without any issues, accommodating me for the alternate date. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy they made it for me. The class itself was lots of fun! The venue was beautiful and the other locations on their list seemed to be fun spots as well, so it seems they hold their classes at great places. Chef J was excellent - informative, while keeping things light and entertaining. Everyone seemed to be laughing and having a good time. They let you add on additional rolls other than the initial California roll they teach you. So we added some extras on and made a total of 3 rolls each..they were all very good! We had a great time, learned something, enjoyed some delicious food, and I'd definitely do this class again and recommend it to others. read more

You don't have to be a cook to make some delicious sushi rolls in The Sushi Class!!! Chef Sara is fabulous and walks you through exactly what to do, twice, before you attempt to make your own rolls! Even if you don't master it on your first attempt and ingredients ooze out of the end (like mine) the ingredients are still fresh and the dinner you make yourself with be delicious! I had a blast at the class and Chef Sara was entertaining, helpful and personable! Something that also adds to this amazing experience is that it's byob!!! So maybe the wine played a part in my skipping a step or two, but I woudn't have it any other way! I swear I'll do better next time! If you haven't taken this class yet, go to the website and signup! My boyfriend and I went to Maki Night and it was a BLAST! Chef Sara is super welcoming, fun to hang out with, and great at demonstrating her craft. We had a small group, so Chef Sara took about 20 minutes at the beginning to tell us her story and show us how to make the rolls. Once we started making them, she was readily available to answer our questions and lend a helping hand. It's BYOB, but she also has soda and water available for purchase. Chef Sara provided so many ingredients that we both left with at least 1.5 rolls leftover and were able to take home some spicy mayo (SO good) and extra sauces. I never thought I liked sushi, until I spent an evening at The Sushi Class! Housed on the first floor of a commercial office building, I walked in to the sound of traditional Japanese music playing (very peaceful) and a room that I would later learn was designed based on a typical Japanese house (minimalistic with little decor). Chef Sara began with a brief discussion of the history of sushi, and then got right into teaching us how to make Maki rolls, which I now know are the ones with rice on the outside. We were given the ingredients to make both California and vegetarian rolls, with additional ingredients (like salmon, shrimp, etc.) available for purchase. While I initially had little hope for my sushi rolling skills, Chef Sara explained the process step-by-step, and ensured that everyone in the class was successful in making restaurant-quality rolls (and, to my surprise, my rolls not only looked good, but were also delicious). I attended the grand opening of Maki Night courtesy of Yelp Connecticut. What a great time! I love sushi & I've had a sushi making kit for YEARS but never had the courage to try it. It looks like it would take forever and there are costs involved and as much as I didn't want to go broke eating sushi, I never gave it a try. UNTIL NOW I got to spend 2 hours with new friends learning how to roll my own sushi and I could not believe how easy it is! Time to dig out my sushi making kit! Chef Sara led the class with excellent demos of every step to make the sushi rolls. She provided all of the ingredients (including fish & crab) and all of the necessary tools needed to roll our own sushi, which including aprons. This was so much fun! I got to load my rolls the way I want & then got to sauce them up to my liking. My sushi was goooood! And I am now a proud roller of the sushi! What's neat is not only do they provide everything you need but they will email a handbook containing all of the information from class in addition to recipes for making the rice & sauces. They have open classes on Fridays & Saturdays. If that doesn't fit your schedule or you don't want to drive to Cheshire, they will come to you! Holiday parties, bridal parties/showers, birthdays, getting together with friends... this is so much fun! You can also make a reservation at their Cheshire location for other days, even if it's just 2 or 3 people. My fiancé and I were so excited to attend our Maki Night class at Koma in West Hartford! I haven't seen this class offered before, and it made for a unique date night. Chef Sara was very well organized and I appreciated that she had all of our materials ready to go when we arrived. Her demonstrations were thorough and easy to understand. At first, I was worried that we wouldn't be making our sushi at the same time as her, but her instructions were clear and she went slow enough that it was easy to remember afterwards. I always get nervous that I'll get judged when I do things that I'm new at, and Chef Sara provided helpful advice that wasn't judgmental at all. She just wanted us to have fun! Our sushi was delicious and I was so proud to walk away having made the roll all by myself. The sushi manual provided after the class is so nice of her to do for us, and we will definitely be using it! I'm so excited for Sara to open a space of her own. I've always felt sushi was a meal best left to restaurants. I was rather skeptical when my wife said we were going to a sushi-making class. I envisioned sticky rice on the walls, in my pockets and in my beard. But was I ever wrong! As skittish as I was as we sat down, the encouragement provided by Chef Sara Wingard immediately put me at ease. She was patient. My fumbling thumbs and difficulty in following instructions didn't deter her confidence that I could actually roll my own. We had a great time and fashioned 3 rolls each, using the ingredients of our choice. The activity was fun and the rolls delicious, but Sara's demeanor was the key. She never rushed us, and didn't even admonish me when I heavy-handed my botched a roll. We've got to do this again. Then I'll be able to enter the room as an expert. read more
