The quality of the subs are REALLY good. Completely tastes home-made and fresh, great variety of subs. Most of all, the staff and the owner is very nice! A while ago, we went in a big group of like 6 or 7, and I guess we were a good vibe or something because later on the owner came up and gave us one free sub! Woo!! Stuff like that and the quality of food keeps me coming back. Its a normal meeting spot when I meet my boyfriend for lunch. The only, oooonly reason that I cannot give this a full 5 stars is that it is kind of pricey for a college student. I always want to get a large, but I usually end up getting the smaller one and crave more at the end. The large is totally worth it though, it fills me up and sometimes is a nice leftover. I ALWAYS get the meatball because it beats the crap out of the Subway meatball subs. The roast beef one is also another favorite. Oh, I'm getting hungry thinking about it now, haha. This place has high reviews so I decided to check it out. I ordered the turkey avocado with cheese, and the bread was dry, too much vinegar and just a huge mess. It was hard to eat without everything in the sandwich falling out and because of all the extra vinegar the parts of the bread that wasn't dry were too soggy. However, the cashier was really nice and made a few suggestions.... so I may go back and try another sandwich...... read more

First time coming back in a long time. I was excited to try that Big Dude sandwich I remembered five years ago. Unfortunately, my ticket got lost in the mix and my sandwich forgot to get made. That's where the real review begins. Every employee apologized wholeheartedly for the error, the problem got fixed quickly, and I even got a free coupon for a sandwich and drink when I return. The customer service here is outstanding. They truly do care about their clientele. Plus, the sandwich still rocked like it did five years ago. Once again, The Sub Station excels in their service. I walked in about 4:15 and was greeted by a wonderful young lady. Her smile was amazing and she was enthusiastic about her job. She promptly took my order and completed the sale. She then made my sub, and within five minutes she was finishing up the order. She called my by name and asked if I would like extra chilies or carrots. She finished wrapping the sub, placed it in a carry out bag and wished me a great day. So I just started at the uni fall 2019, and the first place I went to eat was substation as it was right next to the school and it I liked the asthetic of a long ran small buisness, so I wanted to try it out. So far I ordered the chicken pesto, big dude, tangy buffalo chicken, and the pizza sandwich, and all were awesome, but by far the Star was the big dude. This review is for the time I went in a week ago. The owner/boss didn't seem to be around, so the students (or younger workers) seemed to take a lot longer preparing subs because they were just standing around talking to each other. One particular worker came in (without a shirt on) and hung around with his coworkers talking about his birthday (near the area where sandwiches are made). Is this how management is when the owner is not around? It's sad because I really love it here, but shouldn't the workers be a bit more responsible especially if the boss isn't around? I came here for dinner while visiting my aunt and uncle. They said it was really good, so automatically, they get a star! They told me it was better than subway...this earns them no extra stars because I HATE subway AND their slimy meat-like product! They gave me a few suggestions, but I didn't get too far on the list since I ordered a number 1 sans cheese. This is one of the best subs that I have had. It was very Italian with the Cappocolla (still don't know what this is, but I compare it to prosciutto), Dry Salami, and Pepperoni. It also had lettuce, tomato, and an amazing oil and vinegar mixture. I don't know what more to say than they have great subs and outdoor seating (which I am always a fan of)! I got the Vegi Avocado with melted cheese. First off I'd like to thank them for making their vegetarian menu the same size as the regular one! It was easy to see and actually had more than 3 sandwiches to choose from! My sandwich plus a medium drink was about $9. Not bad because even though I ordered a "half?" (haha) it was quite big and I even had a hard time finishing it. The sandwich was delicious! It was perfectly seasoned, and the lettuce mix was soooo good. My only complaint was that my french bread was soggy at the bottom- maybe because of the lettuce or avocado? Anyways, the cheese and lettuce was so delicious I quickly got over it. The inside was cozy, but spacious. They don't give you plates, instead they give you like a large white sheet of paper. I definitely will come back when I'm in the area to try more of the vegetarian sandwiches! As for you meat eaters, they sure did seem to have a variety of choices! Btw! I'm a big fan of a good sandwich and that is what makes sub station so disappointing. The hot sandwiches here are delicious but the cold sandwiches here can't seem to find a good balance. If you get the sandwich without salt and pepper, it's going to be a bit bland, but if you do have salt and pepper, they douche your sandwich with so much salt that it's hard to eat. Even though it is right next to campus I have stopped going here because the sandwiches are so inconsistent. I'll admit it's been over a year since the last time I have gone, but back then the service was terrible. The work atmosphere was very casual and friendly but unfortunately the employees could never properly make a consistent sandwich. read more

I love this place but I am not a fan of the wait or the service. I have gone here about 6 or 7 times and every single time I get my change and sit down, I do not get my correct change back. I don't know if it is just the cashier, but it really bothers me. That is what has kept me from returning even though I love it here. It isn't the cheapest place ever so I get upset when every time I pay, I am missing $3-5. One time I went back and asked for my change that was clearly missing more money and the cashier had the nerve to say he didn't know what I was talking about. Oh my god. As I'm writing this I'm having fantasies about a sandwich from here. Every time I'm in the UCR area I have to stop in for one. It's been there since the 1970's I believe, and they have a bunch of cool historic UCR stuff inside. The staff is always friendly and quick, and the owner is really nice too. But the main reason this spot is so cracking is because their sandwiches are BOMB. The bread is so soft and fresh every time, and I am a sucker for a sandwich with shredded lettuce. Also they put some sort of Italian seasoning and olive oil blend on the sandwich, and it is simple but oh so flavorful. They also give you some carrot sticks and a few of those little yellow peppers that are really hot.. I always bite the end off and squeeze that spicy vinegary juice on the sandwich.. so good! Honestly, they're a little overpriced, but if you're looking for quality and freshness, the price can be overlooked. read more
