But is exactly true that my desire to keep up appearances gave me more than ample time to peruse their wares. Ten Thousand Villages is located in an old 3-story house and has a great selection of jewellery, servingware, statues, and other home décor global treasures. They are also quick to refill the complimentary coffee pots, which is a bonus. I guess they care as much for their customers as they do for the native artisans that they represent. The coffee with a conscience being served up here is flavourful and fortunately available for purchase upstairs.

It would be cool and interesting clutter, but clutter nonetheless. The variety of products in this sizable store is impressive and they do sell tea, coffee, etc., but I would never make a special trip here just for that. Being that Christmas is coming, it's a good place to buy unique ornaments and stocking stuffers. I was expecting to walk into a store like Blame Betty, all rockabilly and gothesque. What I instead encountered was a sort of haphazard collection of clothes in all sizes from a variety of designers. There remains to this day a small collection of Emily Strange clothes there, but it is so, so much more. The owner and also shopkeeper knows all about her clothes. She can help you find anything in your size in about 5 seconds flat. She is hilarious and charming and about as far from a goth as you can get. In terms of the clothes, she has collected a bit of everything from everywhere. The target seems to be women of all shapes and sizes from the ages of 20 - 50 which means there is a bit of everything for everyone. Some of the lines do run up to a 16, so curvy women searching for fashionable alternatives can find some great stuff here. And of course she's got some size 00 stuff for the tiny (lucky) ladies. There are lots of really unique and standout pieces you can buy here. My favourite purchase thus far are a killer pair of orange flats that people go crazy for. Comfortable + killer style + sweet owner + great location = let's not keep this a secret anymore guys. I recommend that all women visit - don't let Emily Strange keep you away.

I got a very cute fake leather jacket for over my dress and they have a ton of hair pin/clip options - and were very patient while I looked through them all :) In fact, the staff were the perfect level of attentiveness (i.e., left my mum and I to browse and chat until we had questions, and then were very helpful and made sure we were happy with our final choices). The only downside to the store is that it's super small, and therefore can feel a bit cramped when there are more than a couple of shoppers in it. So I'd recommend trying to go on a weekday morning if you can!

There is an awesome process in place for those who want to submit clothing for consignment and an easy, transparent way for people to see whether their consigned items have been purchased. I have felt intimidated when dropping clothing off at other thrift stores, but Urban Thrift is definitely a welcoming space! I was told that the store holds a variety of special events and promotions, all of which sound very interesting although I have not yet been able to attend any. Still - lots of cool ideas that demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking. I'm looking forward to becoming a regular at this clothing store.
