I am a local. and I had never been here, until this past weekend. However, I know it from television. Not because it was featured on a news segment, or something similar, but because I saw it on an episode of Monk. It was used as a background prop. Funny what writing helps you remember, and hopefully what you remember is good stuff. Before I stepped into this bar, I expected it to be a Diver bar, in the grittiest sense, but I was wrong, it is a Dive bar in the most exciting of ways: It is a collection of tchotchkes (a fancy word for trinkets) that when admired as a whole and then independently give this place a whimsical personality. Imagine having a friend that when invited to a pool party wears a bikini with a fun print--- like cherries or flamingos, and is always down for a shot and playful mayhem. Being around this type of personality amps up the party soul of a moment because their vibe is that of a buzz-nurturer. Meaning that when I was in the bar, and all it has to offer, made me want to have a good time, regardless of what I carried in from the outside. The place gives immediate Tiki Bar vibes but does not carry the moment to full fruition. For example, in my pictures I show curtains with Tiki Idols, and a light fixture adorn with its own hula skirt but the Tiki motif does not transport one to a Luau where dancers sway as they wait for a pig to finish roasting. Instead, the Tiki vibes are sharply contrasted with posters and other keepsakes that are both aspiration and life lessons. For instance, one reminds us to leave your drama outside. Another hanging placard lists advisories that (straight) men should adhere when hitting on women. One of these is the fact that some women's sexual preference is NO. Another poster explains what happens when girls drink too much. One of the 10 outcomes is that women confuse the kitchen floor for their mattress when laying down. Like I said, all of these small and bigger touches combine to give this place a personality that draws one to have a good time. For me, there were two standout items in the place- 1) a jukebox and a 2) pool table. I was with three people that played pool better than me. One of them explained the purpose of a chalk mound. One is suppose to rub the place between their thumb and index finger to get chalk right in there. Then rub the chalk on the stick. This will create less friction which will help you shoot better. I did all that. This moment also allowed me and another member of my group to have a lot of hard wood jokes-- what are you going to do, we were having a good time at this place, and these jokes felt right. The jukebox was also free. I played Ariana Grande's version of Popular from Wicked and I felt the song. I was warbling loudly, and off key, and dancing because I was feeling the tune and the drinks. At the end, some of the people in the bar clapped and hollered. I went to put in another song I was stopped, the regulars were watching football on a Sunday, go figure. That is the thing about this bar, it is a regular's bar. People knew each other, people knew I was the first timer. Like when I spoke, two or three people answered my question. When I was looking for the key a customer directed me to it. So this place is definitely a place where regulars are at. And if you know anything about dive bar culture, regulars who know each other make a community. So you will need to navigate these dynamics if you attend. For instance, one of my friends was in the bathroom, doing the business of two. A regular opened the door and my friend was like, I am here, closed the door. The regular did not close the door, instead he made a joke about leaving the door just a bit open, while being a bro about it. I was horrified just being a witness. But between bar flies these type of jokes might be understood as joyful. But it would take me an alternate life to find humor in potty politics. I was introduced to the White Tea shot and it has become my new shot so this place left a mark on my taste buds. The shot at the end had this strong green tea taste. The prices were right too! I can't wait to go here again, when the party vibe calls me forth! Oh and it is cash only, unless you spend 40 and above then it is card appropriate. read more

I came here after a show in San Pedro so I can wait for uber prices to drop, and I had a nice time here. First be aware that it is cash only. I believe they have an ATM machine inside but I'm not sure how much they charge as I had cash on me. This bar attracts a lot of locals as expected but this specific night there seemed to be a majority of people from the concert wanting to keep the party going. They have a Juke box where you can insert money and select from a wide range of songs. This night we were selecting tons of punk songs, and it seemed like just a big fun party. This place is nice and if I'm in the area again I will come check it out. read more

The Spot receives 5 stars for all bartenders recently serving me in good faith gave customers and I quality service, upholding good business practice, governing their Kingdom when on duty without influence or corruption! Establishment disqualified R&R by Paul/Veronica by making themselves liable, not supporting Senior Bartenders refusing to deny service, creating a monster, allowing mishandling of customers banking cards and impowering a renegade high-profile Mixologist. -----------(BRIEFS) Bottom line, Maggy (Vanessa Bartender) on her off day started trouble by inquiring to New Security about me being 86 three years ago! Instead of playing pool security, bartender and myself had to discuss what Maggy started? Then very next day come to my night club and sit right next to, turn and give me a dirty look then yack away! Saturday every top bar treated me great including at the Spot, but security notified me that Owners verified I was 86? I was invited back by security then independently invited back by all senior bartenders except Maggy! Shortly after the death of my pastor I ventured into the Spot for relief in which during my visit Maggy on duty approached me to discuss what she said Chase Visa card (Not my Name) I had given her when I first arrived on sight. She was sharp and sober and I was very depressed and distant. She directly denied knowing person's name on card or ever seeing my card that day. I was fortunate having cash to pay my tab and tip Maggy appropriately! Unable to track my card down within several hours contacted Chase to cancel card I had in my possession and contact the person or the cardholders. This matter was considered closed for a time until the afternoon after the evening Maggy without notice attempted to conspire an argument for 86 me forever. Maggy actually brought her boyfriend in that afternoon to beat me up, but was upset when him and I actually liked each other's company and left to continue a more business or productive conversation. (That Gentlemen or her boyfriend she was way out of his league). God gave me the peace of the puzzle as I left establishment that day! A customer of Maggy's and fellow patron of mine approached me as exiting wanting to know if Maggy had contacted me regarding the card mix up from the past? He had moved out of state never to return and had communicated with her regarding this matter etc... He did not have any knowledge of the conflict thinking her and I were still very good friends! He said it was just an act of God that he was coming through town that he ran into me. He first made contact with her before my arrival the night before when she flipped out! This information along with Maggy's actions is criminal and I was forced to notify ABC, but when speaking to owner was permanently 86. Maggy due to this individual's presence has continued to try to cover up. Last year Maggy requested removal of complaint to ABC! For a place that had a bad rep years ago it's turned out to be a great place to just hang out and have some drinks with the regulars. The juke box plays all the hits, there's karaoke on Wednesday and Sunday and the drinks are stiff. The vibe is pretty chill. If you're into playing pool you better bring your A game cuz they take pool very serious in there. Also there's an outdoor patio where you can drink and smoke at which is the best part about this bar because it's the only place in pedro that offers that amenity. Stole and used my credit card AFTER I called to ask if I had left it there. Came in on Friday night, realized I misplaced my credit card on Saturday morning. Called Sunday morning to check if they had it. Someone named "Cindy?" told me she found it and that I could swing Monday after work to pick it up. Monday comes, the card is not there. Went into this bar during my work hours to take a client with mental health issues to shoot a game of pool. As soon as we walked in and asked for quarters we were informed that we need to be paying customers. When I ordered two red Bulls I was informed that I need to buy alcohol and that we both need to drink. Uhhhhh, why this place has 4 and a half stars is baffling. I went here with my boyfriend after I picked him up at work today.....and thank god he was there otherwise I would be reviewing my recent rape. In my short time there, I witnessed two drug deals, was offered nitrous, got raped with the eyes of many a longshoreman, and paid wayyyy too much for two bottles of drinkability. (3.50 each, no joke) Other than that the bartender was very nice, and they have all the makings of a glorious divebar: jukebox, pool table, darts and smoky/dirty ambiance. Unfortunately, the patrons are a touch scary and a staff member has to come to the bathroom with you to let you in..... i think that's about enough said. I may or may not have popped in here during a break from work for a little wind down. After a super hectic morning, all I wanted was a cheap glass of wine. I found this place and ducked in for a cheap cab. The bartender AJ was SO nice. The second I walked in I was greeted with a smile and super enthusiastic attitude. Mind you I didn't realize this was kind of an old mans bar so I stuck out like a sore thumb. I immediately felt comfortable. Thank you AJ! I can't wait for this building to be teared down. It is a blight occupying the corner of Pacific Ave and 22nd Street. The building is filthy, disfiguring the whole intersection. It has not received a coat of paint in years. They show no respect for the community around them, leaving tons of cigarette butts on the sidewalk by their outdoor section on 22nd Street, and the front. Always a lot of litter in their parking lot and by their front door, condoms, food trash, beer bottles. Volunteers from the community have to go clean around that business every week. The other businesses across the street always sweep their curbs and outdoor areas keeping it sanitary but obviously that bar does not care. Uncaring ownership and staff. read more

As a recent Pedro transplant, I couldn't get service on a Friday afternoon, even though there were only seven people in the bar, including me and the bartender. DIVE BAR! A mix of tweekers, old retired dudes, young folk and old dock workers. Beers are decent priced. 3.25 for a bud light. They also have a dart machine, amazing and a new game where you put 50 cents in and a punching bag comes down and you hit it and it gives you a score. Andrea was attentive and friendly and made a great Bloody Mary. A total dive bar and just what we were looking for mid-ride. Will we be back? For sure. This is our new Spot when we are riding in San Pedro! There was an eclectic mix of customers but didn't notice any of the trouble that a few other yelpers had talked about. Hands down, my favorite place to go in San Pedro for drinks, shooting pool, and hanging with locals. Yes, it's a dive bar. If you want somewhere "upscale" to drink, find a different neighborhood. This is fun, friendly, locals kicking back in their natural habitat and my husband and I loved it. Jane, the day bartender, is the most awesome of humans ever and makes a KILLER drink. The prices are decent and where on this planet can you still get a pool game for 50 cents? (very nice table too, albeit purple...) The ladies room was spotless with a secure door lock. This is a solid dive bar. Drinks are strong. Drinks aren't the cheapest but cheap enough. Blue collar, neighborhood feel. Pool table. It hits a lot of the major points here folks. It's not the best dive in the world but it's solid. I'd say what's keeping it from being a top tier dive bar is the price of drinks, and the fact that the bar doesn't feel timeless to me. On any given day you'll find washed up pedro people, pedro hookers, old guys, crazy people, but even all that isn't even good people watching. I have fond memories of my one visit to The Spot. The selling feature would be the bulletin board plastered with faded Polaroid pictures featuring patrons of the good, the bad, and the ugly varieties. When asked how to get one's picture on the board, the bartender smiled her toothless smile and said, "well, most of them are dead."
