Wanted something unique to stop at on our road trip and found this cute place easily off i20. Tons of parking so definitely trailer friendly. The building is older and really cute. It was lunch time and you could tell there were a lot of local regulars. The menu has so many options. I had the meatloaf sandwich and it was HUGE. I halfed the slice of meatloaf so I could actually fit it in my mouth. I chose it over the usual meatloaf because of the Texas toast. It was really good but likely would opt for the plain meatloaf and not the sandwich next time. The sweet potato fries were crispy and definitely a favorite in our group. One of us got the chicken pot pie special and it came with the chocolate cake dessert. While kind of simple, she said the potpie was pretty good. While we were there hey had a short power outage which no one seem very concerned about. Luckily it came back on after a couple of minutes. Our service was just so so but since the power outage happened I imagine there were some other issues going on. Definitely a cool little spot to stop!

We had two choices in this small town of Thurber, so we picked this one because of its proximity to a landmark. This place was hoppin,g so you know that's a good sign. They actually had gluten-free bun,s and the burger was super juicy and thick. I have no real complaints. The bathrooms were small but clean. Parking was easy, and the staff were friendly.

My first visit after driving by this place several times over the last 30 years. It was early in the day, and I wasn't sure they would be serving breakfast based on what I had seen online, but was pleasantly surprised! The place is one of the original brick buildings from this old townsite. It's quite homey, lots of photos from the heydays of this area. Service was friendly and efficient. The menu had lots of choices for breakfast, and I chose the Brick Rustler, as it covered a lot of bases with eggs, bacon, sausage, 2 biscuits, gravy, has browns and pancakes! And all that for $19.95! I was able to eat all but the pancake and a biscuit, which I took to go. I don't get out here much but I'll stop when I can.

Viktoria was very attentive and engaging. She knew a lot about the menu and made the amazing ranch dressing! The Smokestack is an enjoyable restaurant with inside seating and a large patio area as well. The daily specials are super affordable and come with desert. I enjoyed the fried chicken salad with their home made dressings. Their burgers are the perfect consistency, with a good crust and not greasy, with a great flavor.

French toast. My sister was so eager to get a bite she cut into it before I was able to get my picture.

Took my sister for a birthday breakfast to The Smokestack yesterday. My sister was thrilled. The food was tasty and had good sized servings. My sister had the mushroom and swiss omelet which came with a side of biscuits and gravy. I had the breakfast burrito. The salsa on the side was quite tasty and I don't fund that to be the case with most restaurant salsas. We, also, ordered a single slice of French toast for a breakfast dessert. The service was nice and everyone was pleasant to deal with. One of the things I appreciated most was there was no music we had to yell over and there was only one television in the restaurant which is not typical in most places. We'll definitely be back.

If you're in the area and even if you're not it's worth the stop! My friend and I are visiting a friend from High School and she suggested this place. They were packed, but thankfully they had a table open. I had the Bacon Chicken Sandwich and it was phenomenal! The fries were delicious as well. I really enjoyed the sourdough bun My friends had a cheese burger and the black bean burger and both enjoyed them. The fried pickles are spears, which imo are far better than the pickle chips anyways those were great too. Our waitress, Pooh, was so sweet and attentive. We never needed drinks. She was very friendly - I'd highly recommend asking for her The ambiance was great it was all decked out with the old timey mine stuff.

Found three restaurants in the area with good ratings. So of course had to try them all. At the Smokestack I had the jalapeño potato poppers with ranch dressing. Very good and the service was completely on point. It is a beautiful building with lots of history. Worth the stop.

Hubby and I had the liver and onions with mashed potatoes and gravy, and the Buffalo chicken salad with blue cheese. Both dishes were wonderful, the place is very interesting and service was very good. This place is definitely worth stopping at.

Back to this place after last review 9 months ago. Still ridiculous size chicken fried steak…read morefingers. Comes with salad, 2 sides (M potatoes, okra) and roll. I'm always expected to be let down because it is soooo good every time coke here. Everything is still great. Talked my friend into meeting here and he was blown away with how great it was. I forgot to take a picture this time. My friend is not a leftover person, but he took his leftover steak fingers with him and also ordered slice of buttermilk pie to go. Our waitress was a sweetheart. I forgot her name, believe short young lady with black hair. Forgive me for not remembering her name, but she was wonderful and very helpful for any questions my friend had. Did notice someone ordered I believe cheese curds and did not know they had these. I will try to remember this next time I'm here. I will always update this place every-time I come here. Thanks for the greasy food.

I travel to Abilene somewhat often for business, in and out same day. I'm usually coming through…read morethe area of this restaurant in the morning, and back by again around lunchtime. And I usually stop at the place across the highway. Today I decided to check out New York Hill and I was glad I did. The ambience is like being in a house that had its living room converted to a dining room- which it may very well have been. I'm not sure. Regardless, there are booths and tables, and a nice view to the north. All good. I was greeted by a nice young lady who took my drink order (coffee) and brought a menu. I liked they served the coffee in a thermal mug as it stayed hot! The menu was extensive, plate lunches, burgers, sandwiches, salads... a bit of everything. The dishes were typical of what we call "home cooking" around these parts. I ordered the Texas Sizzler- a chop steak with onions and jalapeños, smothered in melted cheese. It was quite delicious, and since we just had our first cold snap for the fall, it really hit the spot as a dish that will warm you up. The salad that came with the meal was very good, and had a nice chunky blue cheese dressing. Crinkle cut sweet potato's fries were good, as was the pinto beans. There are lots of other sides to choose from. Overall, everything was hot, fresh and delicious. Service was friendly and they. Checked on me often. Bottom line is I will be back to try some of their other offerings.

DELICIOUS! I actually heard about this place from a Reddit post about places to stop on a road trip…read moreacross Texas and I'm so glad I listened! It's home cooked food, calories-not-monitored, but worth every single bite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I knew it was going to be good when we saw the parking lot was overflowing into the grass. Luckily there was still an open table inside and we were welcomed by the sweetest staff and our waitress was just as wonderful. So many things looked good on the menu, but I couldn't resist ending this road trip with another taste of chicken fried steak to compare to Mary's (and they can definitely compete because it was AWESOME)! We also tried the chicken fried chicken (delicious), sweet potato casserole (amazing), Mae's potato casserole (tasty), cheese sticks (good), and the hamburger and fries which was obviously delicious enough that my picky daughter almost finished it - which says a LOT! We were very glad that we'd ordered the "smaller portions" for lunch because it meant we could grab a few of the desserts to go to snack on for our final leg of the road trip and keep enjoying at home. We tried the toffee cake (incredible), peanut butter cake (sinfully good), and the coconut pie (very light and creamy)! We also snagged some items to take home with us from their coolers and I can 100% recommend their pork tamales and summer sausage. If you get the chance to stop here, you won't regret it at all! Delicious, great service, and good portions!
