WHY WE WENT HERE: - date THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located off Sutter St closest to Wool St cross street - street parking and walked over (slight incline) THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - drink fridge, merchandise, and cashier at the front - wood/metal stalls lined up - arcade in the back - restroom in the far back HOW IT WORKS: - sign waiver - safety briefing - timed (not sure how long?) in the stall; provided with a laminated sheet of different axe throwing games with instructions - pay afterwards CUSTOMER SERVICE: - the guy who checked us in and did our safety briefing was cool - the woman gave pointers to a lot of clients as they were axe throwing

Took family to fill a "bucket list" item. 9 of us threw (a first for all) and we had one 7 year old that obviously could not due to age. The experience was so much fun. The staff was amazing and helpful and they even had a kids plastic bristle board target and axes set up for our little guy. He had a blast. It was a little expensive but we felt worth it for sure.

If you're looking for an experience that is a little out of the ordinary, "Smart Axe" Folsom just might be the place for you. This is Sacramento's top axe-throwing company as also have locations in Midtown Sacramento (20th & K), Davis, Rancho Cordova, Roseville, and even Modesto. Situated in the heart of Old Folsom, this location (on Sutter St & Wool St), this location has been operating strongly ever since opening back in early-2021. Keep in mind that they are closed on Monday & Tuesday but are open Wednesday & Thursday from 4-8:30pm, Friday from 3-9:30pm, Saturday from 11am-9:30pm, and Sunday from 12-8pm. Also, their business does not take walk-ins; reservations can be made online through their website, https://www.thesmartaxe.com/folsom-axe-throwing/. As of 2023, it costs $25 per person for one full hour of axe throwing. So basically a group of four would cost $100. And this place is for ages 12 and over; no children or toddlers are allowed. Also, please make sure your footwear is up to par as closed-toed shoes are mandatory; they will not allow you to throw the axe in flip-flops. In addition to the axe entertainment, they offer a small food & beer menu including flat breads, chicken strips, wings, and pretzels as well as several beers on draft. Unfortunately, the bar below, "Escape Room" closed its doors at the end of September 2023 due to the owner not renewing their lease. During my visit which was the evening of Saturday 6/3/2023, I joined a couple buddies of mine and also saw a group enjoying all the festivities that this place had to offer. I will say that throwing an axe is not the easiest thing in the world as aiming for the bullseye takes practice, form, skill, and coordination. You must have the right stance and throwing technique to fully master it but it is quite a bit of fun for everyone that participates. The employees also assist you with any questions that you might have. With that said and done, I will be giving the "Smart Axe" Folsom location an above average four star rating.

Fun way to spend an hour! We went with our 14 year old son and we all had a really good time. We tried the axes ($25/hr pp) and the knives ($5 extra pp) and it was totally worth it. We had a great time adjusting our technique for each weapon. It was a Wednesday afternoon and not busy at all so the workers let us try out a few different styles/weights of the knives. This location has a full bar and food options downstairs - which I recommend asking to grab BEFORE they start your throwing time because an hour goes by pretty fast! I will say, the guy who explained the instructions to us was speaking very fast. Too fast for such a dangerous activity. Listen carefully (especially with a kid in tow) and ask him/her to slow down if necessary. I get it... they say the same thing multiple times a day - but for a first timer it might be a little awkward. Do whatever you need to be safe and enjoy the experience. Bathrooms are shared with other businesses and could be cleaner but overall - we had a great experience!

What a great experience! I booked our Team (work) of 21 people to enjoy this experience after dinner down the street. I cannot thank Phillip enough for assisting and making the process so easy. Everyone is still talking about it and how it was something "they normally wouldn't do"...but absolutely has the best time. Appreciate you and your t

Took my husband in for an early Valentine's activity. He was worried that he wouldn't be able to throw due to a bum shoulder but it turned out he could throw just fine (and kicked my butt at playing "21"). Our Axpert, Pip, gave a great safety brief and demonstrated three ways to throw the ax, then watched us both throw a few times and gave good feedback on how to dial the technique in. When we were finished we chatted with Pip a bit and learned about the league he hosts, different kinds of axes and the way they make the targets from local wood. Really cool conversation to cap off a fun date! Highly recommend.

Ashley was so freaking awesome. helped me and my boys get so much better at throwing the axe. definitely recommended. #awesomeashley

Each lane services two axe throwers!

Hottest new spot in Old Folsom!!! Smart Axe has sectioned areas that allow for two axe throwers at a time. We had a large group and we we're able to use four lanes at once! Each lane has its own chalk board for keeping score and playing games like tic-tac-toe/horse, etc...but with axes! They also have an arcade in the back area with a pool table, two air hockey tables, pinball machines, and many others! Perfect for the whole family. While other axe throwing places I've been to charge a rediculous amount for a single axe with one lane and force people in your group to switch off, Smart Axe charges by the person per hour (or half hour for walk-ins). This is so much better because it allows for everyone to take the time to master their axe throwing skill! Dixie was the seriously the best host, she deserves an honorable mention! She greeted us with her friendly and outgoing personality. Happily took pictures of our group with all of our phones at the front photo area. She gave us all a simple tutorial with expert advice on how to correctly throw the axe. Althought I had learned to step then throw at other axe throwing places, her advice was the only reason that I kept landing shot after shot. When there was down time, she even showed us a few trick moves like reverse and backwards! Overall, Smart Axe is a must try for anyone trying to get out of their house and try something new! It was certainly the perfect post-happy hour activity, and a great way to remember how to have fun again during this difficult time. I'll definitely be back soon, and hope that you give it a try! Cheers!

You can bring food from outside. They are limited on snacks and have a variety of good beers. The axe throwing bays are pretty big and there's plenty of space for your party of 4 or more. Sawdust in my hair, zero regrets…read more We came for the ax throwing and stayed for the vibes. Get Axed in Roseville is a wild, well-run good time -- think beer-pong-energy targets, tic-tac-toe projection games, and enough illuminated targets to keep everyone entertained between throws. The staff are friendly, informative, and actually helpful with coaching throws and explaining the games, which made the whole experience way less intimidating. You can order cocktails (solid pours) and snacks -- another party got a stack of pizzas from Costco and the place handled it like pros. Bathrooms were huge and spotless, which is always a relief. The space is cozy and wooden, so yes, bring your sense of adventure. I left with sawdust in my hair and a grin. Photos attached show the games and the menu -- great spot for a rowdy date night or group hang. Go with friends, wear something you don't mind getting a little rustic, and have fun. 1) Axe lane and illuminated targets -- bring your A-game. 2) Tic-tac-toe projection -- more competitive than it looks. 3) "GET AXED" beer menu -- drink options for every palate.

Excellent stop to cool off after wandering the Saturday Sacramento Midtown Market!…read more SITREP Located right on K Street a block down from the Midtown Market's main channel up & down 20th Street, ForePlay is a fun stop that is full of LOTS of distractions of fun and drink to escape the heat. THE SETUP It would be imprecise to call ForePlay just an arade because it also brings in some of the fun carnie elements you'd catch at a State Fair. One of the more eclectic elements is the axe-throwing range! Tons o' fun. FULL BAR The most beneficial aspect of this stop was the full bar, which - after a couple of hours of heat in the sun while wandering the Midtown Market stalls - was a wonderful treat. Coool beer! There is random parking along the streets and some rare off-street parking lots, but limited parking during events. THE LOWDOWN This is a great stop from to duck into from the heat, or for groups making the rounds. I enjoyed watching a bridal shower when I was here!

Sad to report this place wasn't somewhere I plan to return…read more Half the pinballs machines didn't work. Three of the machines got the ball stuck and wouldn't allow me to keep playing. With each game costing one to two dollars I felt a little ripped off I couldn't even finish my game of three balls. The pool table me and my friend played on was quite frankly disgusting. Tons of stains on the table and felt peeling. The balls all chipped and scratched. Also there was some issue with something being stuck when the game was first setup with my friend putting it together but I wasn't paying attention. He had to flag down a worker to help resolve the issue. I get it, things are pricey these days, so a newer business has to find a deal when they can, but at least find a way to improve an already overly used item. I don't expect brand new pool tables, but at least tables that look like the business cares Not to mention the ground and walls were just dirty and gross. Seemed like nobody is really cleaning the place. All the tables tops seemed sticky (if you know you know). The velvet lounge just kinda seemed like a random thrown together area, but maybe on a slow Monday it didn't feel right with lack of people. The workers were great and gave great service, just sadly all the half run down amenities that is supposed to make this place great, makes it pretty lackluster. I guess come if you want the axe throwing?
