I've been to Roller King several times, usually for birthday parties, and it definitely has a nostalgic charm. Walking inside feels like stepping back into the late '70s or early '80s, complete with the retro atmosphere and dim lighting. If you're looking for an old-school skating rink experience, this place delivers. There are plenty of rental skates available, and the facility generally does what it's intended to do, provide a place to skate and have fun. That said, don't expect a lot of modern amenities or extras. It's a fairly basic skating rink without many frills. One area that could use improvement is the snack bar. During my visits, it appeared that only one or two employees were trying to keep up with orders. While they were working hard, service was slow, and I observed an employee handling cash and then touching food items with the same bare hands, which was concerning. For beginners, the skate-assist devices are simply PVC pipe frames. Unfortunately, they feel somewhat unstable, which is the opposite of what most new skaters need when they're trying to build confidence on the floor. With Rollerland currently closed (hopefully only temporarily), Roller King is one of the few skating options left in the area. However, after visiting several other rinks around the Sacramento region, my two young daughters consistently prefer those alternatives. Overall, Roller King provides a decent, old-school skating experience, but there are definitely areas where it could improve. read more

Mobile Assist Aids for Skating - DANGEROUS! My review is solely based on Roller King offering their guests Mobile Assist Aids for Skating: I was hoping to introduce my 4 year old & 7 year old daughters to their first time roller skating. At first, they were beyond excited. It was a new experience for them and they couldn't wait to try it. We opted to rent the mobile assist aids for skating. They were priced to rent for $6 each. These skating aids were made out of PVC pipes and their design was supposed to provide stability to assist skaters from not falling so they can feel confident enough to skate. However, these skating aids did the exact opposite. I made the mistake of trusting what seems like a homemade contraption made out of PVC pipes that you would get from Home Depot and amateurishly put together on wheels. The contraption made my kids fall instead of making them feel safe. The poor design didn't have enough weight on the front so if you handle them from the side with your hands too far apart, it would push the aids too far and cause you to fall backwards. If you put your hands too close together, it wouldn't give you enough room to skate and even cause you to fall forward. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen! My daughters fell so many times using these skating aids. The look on their faces showed that they were stressed out and defeated. I let them sit down and rest while I examined the skating aids to see what is causing them to fall. I watched as many other children using these skating aids were falling right in front of me. My kids were upset and wanted to go home. We left after a few minutes of getting there because the experience was no longer fun. While I think my kids should try skating again someday, I won't be renting these skating aids anymore. I wish I would've knew about it sooner. So I'm posting this so other parents with small children can be aware of how unsafe these aids are. And while Roller King may not have design these aids, they offer them to their customers and they are just as liable as the makers of these poorly designed skating aids. I don't recommend using them! read more

Well maintained roller rink with plenty of rental skates of all types, groovy carpet, lights and music. It's a bit loud between the music, DJ and screaming kids. Snack bar and vending machines, arcade games, etc. They also sell wine and beer which you might need after spending a few minutes here with kids skating out of control and running in to everyone on and off the rink. We went on New Years day and it was definitely oversold, way too crowded and too many people to be safe. I wish they would limit the skaters so everyone could enjoy skating safely. We couldn't even find a place to sit at the tables in between skating. read more

Roller King is an original roller rink for everyone to roller skate and enter competitions. We had a great time here celebrating a friends daughters 8th birthday party! The kids got a good work out in, learning to enjoy physical activity instead of a phone is always a plus.. This place is old school classic roller skating. With the colorful carpets, flashing lights, loud music and tasty pizza and treats for the whole family. Kids rental skates were included in the package so not sure of the pricing but the place was well kept, all the young employees were helpful and informative and all the food I ordered was delicious. Pricing wasn't ridiculous like other venues that host birthday parties, everything was affordable. We tried the fries & chicken tender meal with a fountain soda, came with ranch or bbq. We ordered ice cream with Hershey's syrup, either strawberry or chocolate is avail, as well as the freshly made mini churros. The churros were my favorite 10/10 don't forget to order these. The birthday party included a private room where kids were served Round Table Pizza, soft serve ice cream, and fountain drinks of your choice. They even decorate for you so setting up and clean up is a breeze. There is also a cool game arcade and a couple of claw machines if you're into that as well. I plan on bringing the kids back for more fun and you should definitely bring your family too. read more

My family and I came out recently for skate night for my grandkids field trip. Such a great turnout I really like this roller rink. This is like my third time coming out here. My grandkids and my son skated the night away. I had so much fun just watching them along with the other kids and family members enjoying themselves. This roller rinks truly provides a safe and family, friendly environment. all of the staff members from those working the skating area to the ones attending the snack bar and even the staff that distribute the skates, all provided great customer service with a smile! You can tell they were very happy to help and they were so attentive to the kids on this night. read more

We had such a great time as a family of seven. It was the perfect activity for all of our kids because everyone, from beginners to more confident skaters, could enjoy themselves. The atmosphere was very family-friendly, the staff were helpful, and the music and lights made it really fun for the kids. There were skate rentals available and plenty of space on the rink so everyone felt comfortable skating at their own pace. It's also nice that there are snacks and seating areas where parents can take a break while still watching the kids. Roller skating is a great way for the whole family to stay active, laugh together, and make fun memories. Roller King really took me back... I love nostalgia and places that take me down memory lane, so this was a great spot for a sixth birthday party. The environment is reminiscent of roller rinks from my childhood in the 70's and 80's. The differences being prices, menu offerings, music, and number of skaters. Prices are not super reasonable. Other reviews talk about the pizza being brought in from Round Table, which is okay, but doesn't allow for last minute additions of pizza. They do play some older stuff: YMCA and Thriller were standouts, but they incorporated more modern stuff into the mix, too. And the rink wasn't nearly as crowded as I remember it being when I was a kid. Staff is friendly. The place, while being pretty old and dated (I'm not complaining), is kept fairly clean. I think this is a great place to show kids how we used to have a good time when we were their age. So, I guess we'll probably be back! read more

If you want a skating rink that sparkles like a hotel lobby, keep rolling this isn't it. But if your heart beats to the sounds of the 80s and 90s (and maybe a little disco ball glare), welcome home! The instant I walked in, I felt like I time-traveled back to my childhood. Full disclosure: I was never Olympic material, but here you don't need to be. Fun is basically built-in. The dark carpet is a genius move....who needs to know what's fell on it in the last 30-40 years? It's also soft on the skates. The wood floor is smooth and they keep it up well. Helpful side rails are carpeted for those moments when you suddenly remember gravity exists. I went for my kid's school trip, slightly worried we'd end up clinging to the wall the whole time. But they have these V-shaped PVC walkers on wheels for new skaters. Whoever invented those deserves a medal (or at least free nachos for life). The snack bar looks straight out of a vintage movie and I mean that in the best way. Prices have rocketed to 2025, but hey, so has everything else. My kid and I had an awesome time. We probably won't be regulars, but we will be back! read more

If you love rollerskating you'll definitely love this place. I would come back and bring my class for a field trip again. I would even recommend this place for anyone wanting to skate or have a celebration of some sort. I really enjoyed the employees and the ease of the experience. The snack bar was pretty awesome. The kids seem to enjoy the games that were offered. I certainly appreciated the walkers. I am trying to prevent injuries so I was able to use a walker myself the last time I skated here with my students. There's plenty of parking surrounding the building in front or behind. Great rink for beginners, terrible DJ/ playlist it was "Y2K" night but it felt like the "DJ" was just putting random songs. Also it would be great if there was referees watching the kids messing around on the rink because their parents obviously don't watch what they are doing. read more

We came again!!! This time on a Friday night!!! At first we thought it was going to be packed but to our pleasant surprise it was not crowded at all There were not that many children here more of the teenager and adult crowd which didn't matter. Our kids skated non-stop without any issues!! Parking wasn't an issue. Getting alcohol or food or drinks weren't an issue too. Our kids and our cousins kids had a blast. read more

Had a great first time experience at Roller King. David was very helpful and thorough, answering all my questions over email in the weeks leading up to our group visit. Compared to other rinks in the Greater Sacramento area, this one stood out due to their group pricing, saving us quite a bit of money. I chose to have my daughter's bday party here because of that. I wasn't interested in a party package with all the bells and whistles (which they do offer as well). What made me a little nervous though was thinking we might not be able to find good tables/seating on a Friday night. However, David let me know before hand that if we arrived 15 min before the start of our skate session we would have no problem getting tables. He was spot on! Reason for the 4 stars - their pizza is not that great. It's pretty bad actually. Edible, but not enjoyable. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our time. read more

Kids had a great time, but the food/food options were subpar for 2024. I bought extra pizzas from the cafe (which were doughy/not even cooked) and would have just preferred to pay the establishment $60 just to order outside catering. I don't believe it's a liability issue since they order round table (would have been nice to know the initial pizzas were from there &that there was a deadline) and they allow you to bring your own dessert. I already paid for the party and then had to take my kids out to Chipotle after to eat! I understand you don't want to stock your kitchen with salad, but at least give the option for us to order one from round table. They did allow me to order GF pizzas for my nieces, which I DoorDash to the venue. A lot of people eat clean or try to in this day and age and this experience felt too much like the 90's. Evolve, please so we can consider your establishment in the future! I would love to have more birthday parties here in the future, but can't handle the low quality offerings. read more

We had so much fun even though I fell literally every ten seconds. I was so embarrassed I had to use the kiddie handles and I still fell!!! Everyone was really sweet and helpful. I have no idea what I was thinking going skating after like 20 years of doing it last. Well my butt hurt for weeks. But it was amazing seeing the pros when they do their special skating like gods on ice!! Pretty sure we ordered food. Wasn't to memorable but they probably have a section for kids parties which is cool!! All in all I will be back. Challenge accepted read more

We've been to Roller King about 10 times in the past 14 months, including my teen daughter's bday party and a school field trip. We drive over an hour to skate in Roseville. In that time, we've also been to rinks in Danville and Santa Cruz, CA and Provo, UT. Roseville's Roller King is the busiest, and there's definitely room for improvement, but tonight's dangerous insanity compels me to write a review. I wish I'd gotten a picture of the crowd. What is the building's occupancy? (We couldn't find a sign). We went for 3 Buck Thurs during winter break (BIG MISTAKE) and even though the rink, tables, and carpeted floor were packed like sardines, people kept coming in! I've been skating for decades and it was downright dangerous on the rink. Little kids with push carts go any direction they want, speed skaters and dare devils race through lots of big groups holding hands, and people come and go from the side tables constantly. (There should be a wall there with only 1 or 2 entrances like at ice rinks). People were colliding. The only time staff talk to people is to tell them not to stop on the wall- seems like the most minor issue as compared to the rest. It's like a lifeguard telling kids to not hang on lane lines instead of preventing injuries off diving boards or running on slippery decks. Tonight, the line to buy food stretched the width of the building for at least an hour. The bathrooms are ridiculous all the time with sloping, uneven tile floors and no hand rails, but tonight they ran out of TP, and the only sink faucet for ALL MEN & WOMEN to share was stuck on, so the floor was soaking wet. They did put out a sign, so it might happen regularly. At the end of the 2 hour session, there was a mountain of skates 3' high and 8' wide on the floor. I really want to keep skating with my kids, and wish there were other options. Besides the obvious bathroom issues, here are some more suggestions: Offer more sessions throughout the week- maybe early mornings for parents with strollers and littles who want push carts. An adult's 18+ only time for fitness or practicing new moves would be super appreciated! Host at least one session per week for 13+ teens and adults. How about classes beyond those offered for beginners and speed skating? Cater some towards intermediates or to teach dance moves. Reduce menu options so you can keep up with the demand and focus on quality. I know the beer, TV sports, and decent skate rentals are appreciated by many so keep up what is working! And maybe look for a franchise opportunity for another location closer to Rocklin/Auburn/Grass Valley. My one star off is due to the helping stand roll for people that don't know how to roller skate being $9!! The price goes down to $6 if it's after a certain time but that's still a lot to me. Well it was my kids first time so she tried her best. Lots of friendly people. They turn the lights on and off I'm guessing 20mins on then 20mins off. No outside food is allowed so don't get food before because if you have leftovers that would need to be left in the car. I would like to give this place another try but don't know when since this place is very far for us, we just happened to be in the area and I wanted to take my kid out somewhere fun which she kind of had probably if she had the helping thing but by the time I wanted to get her it they ran out. read more

By far my favorite rink in the Sacramento area. Well worth driving out a little extra over foothill or the rink. Pros: big and well kept wooden floor, great sound system, friendly crowd. The main cons I have all have to do with the music choices, while I know it's hard to play something everyone will like, Kanye is certainly not appropriate this day and age. Baby shark and all the kiddy songs are fine but get annoying after a half hour of them straight. read more

Any business this dirty deserves a one-star review. This place is lost in time--which can be really great if done with a respect for the past. But in this case, it is from an observable lack of care. There aren't many roller rinks in the greater sacramento, but this one was close enough to take one of my older kids roller skating. We did go on a rainy Thursday night which I guess Thursday nights (6-8pm) are $3 entry and $3 skate rental. I didn't know that ahead of time, therefore was a bit shocked at the amount of people inside. I wish they would either increase the cost, or limit the amount of skaters so it's somewhat enjoyable. Moving on... Parking was good enough to support many people, and entry was relatively easy. They gladly accept all sorts of payment methods such as Apple Pay, credit/debit for entry/food/alcohol, while games are cash only. There are smaller sized lockers available for $0.50 each time you open it, so make sure to bring quarters. They also have an atm available and cash to quarter exchanger if needed. They offer reserved party times, as well as lessons. The rental skates are all in good condition and not too worn down. Sadly they don't have half sizes, but that's okay because they tighten really well. Music is typical for a skating rink, and the rink itself is made of wood, which could be tuned up a bit. It's relatively bumpy and has some unsafe sectioning. They rent the pvc pipe style handy carts ($6.50) for little kids, or adults that need a lil support (but the carts are short). Food options are decent, and priced average for the joint. They have everything from pizza and nachos, to basic soft serve ice cream and slushees, to beer with a few rules. 1 beer per person- per purchase. Max of 3 beers per visit. Seems fair. There is plenty of seating. Tons of tables as well as seating that lines the rink and locker area, which this was nice when you wanted to take a break. All in all, nice place for kids to have an activity, just needs a little extra upkeep on the rink, and definitely don't go on a busy night if you're looking to skate faster than 0.25mph. read more

Three stars for our first ever experience. My kid got invited to a Sunday birthday party. I like the vibe of the entrance and flooring. It felt, I went retro as we went inside. I expected to pay $5 for rental, but I guess, it is part of a bday package. I had to rent for a $6 PVC roller guide stand though. I had to rent skates too to my other kid, which the staff told me to go ask the one who handles the PVC rents. He asked me to pay for $8 roller skates. It would be nice though that there is signage or it was posted that it costs like that. Cause, in the website it says, $5 rentals. As a first time guest, I looked up before I had my other kid rent. I just do not like expense surprises as much as possible. My kid keep on saying roller skates felt so hard on the feet. But, well yeah, perks of us just renting. :)) Never had the chance to eat their pizza nor sundae, so I cannot say anything about that. Nice that they have machines there, food stations and the like. It was nice they had house games. I like songs/sounds choices. Rink and tables got to the time it was too crowded. Many event simultaneously done, which tells me, this establishment is somehow a hit. They have private room, restrooms, vendo machine, and other stuffs. Will give this another visit perhaps. read more

I came here on a field trip with our first grade classes, parents, and teachers. It's been over a decade since I've been here and not much has changed. My kids have have come here on field trips and had their birthday parties here. With so many new places for kids to go to these days, roller skating hasn't been on top of the list. Which is sad because roller skating is so much fun! Prior to skating, we had an educational lesson on light. After that, the kids had their lunch which was included in the price of the skate rental, specifically for the field trip. With so many kids, you'd think the line took an eternity, but not here. The staff behind the counter were quick and efficient. Now onto the skating. You have your choice of regular and in-line skates. I chose traditional and so did most kids. Since my students had never skated, I had the staff tighten their wheels so the kids had some stability. I also had the kids use walkers. They walkers are made out of PVC pipes on wheels. Parents....GET THIS! This was a blessing. We skated for a couple of hours and they played current hits appropriate for our young listeners. We all had a great time and we all walked out unscathed! I highly recommend Roller King if you want to do something fun. Oh, and it's not just for kids, look on their website and they have skating during the evening for adults. Check them out! read more

Booked a semi private party for my daughter last month on Saturday evening. All the kids had a good time--hence the 3 stars. However, it was not streamlined like I'm accustomed to with kids party venues. It was hectic from check in to signing out with the party hostess. The biggest offense: The pizza was supposed to be from pizza stone but the pizza boxes (brown cardboard with a different name) weren't from there and they weren't pizza stone quality. Not sure what happened with that--nothing was explained to me in advance or even at the time of the party. Also, the party hostess took the leftover pizzas away (there were at least 3-4 untouched boxes) without consulting with me. I was very disappointed because I had wanted to give them to one of my friends at the party but we were told the pizzas were gone even though I had organized the pizzas and stacked the full boxes together after everyone ate. Additionally, I brought 2 birthday cakes. We didn't even eat half of each one, and again--they were taken away without asking me if we wanted to take them home. I gave the party hostess a large tip but in hindsight I wouldn't have given the poor communication and the fact that the untouched food was taken away without consulting with me. That is not standard practice at any other children's birthday party I've hosted or been to. I had really wanted to have my daughters party at The Rink since they have a completely private party option for essentially the same price as the semi private party at Roller King, but unfortunately they were booked out. Unless you live in Roseville and are unwilling to drive to Rancho Cordova, I would recommend the Rink for parties. They allow you to bring your own food and drinks and the party time is much better for children (Sunday morning vs. Saturday night at roller king) read more

Good skating rink. It's showing it's age, but not necessarily a bad thing. Nice light and sound system to set the feels. Plenty of seating. Good for birthdays and events. They have private rooms but they are too small for anything more than 10 total it feels like unless something has changed. A few arcade games scattered but nothing recent or enough to keep kids busy for too long. But you go here to skate! The rink has no issues. Rental skates are what you expect--they work. You can even rent inline skates (rollerblades). You can request to tighten the rollerskates to help beginners. They offer the training beginner walker helper things for an additional cost--but they dont have a lot and easily run out so get it ASAP if you need one. Minus 1 star because the pizza is meh. Unless you order out, whatever pizza they are making in house is meh. Kids may not care but adults will notice. Other than that, need something to do, this is a nice option. read more

Celebrated my daughters 5th birthday party here and it was an ABSOLUTE BLAST! The workers were amazing! The place was spotless and we had the entire skate rink to ourselves! We had a personal DJ (played our choice of music), their snack bar was open (for any extras we could want) and they had games we could play too! They had a fridge for our cake too! we even got to choose the games we wanted to play while on the rink! We had unlimited skating helpers (the little things the kids push lol) and we're able to basically skate freely as we wanted to! The indoor space is perfect! It's so open and there's tons of space to move around! They have special skates for the tiny ones and are able to give change so the kids can play the games! Our host was so attentive and personable. Super friendly and helped us out with whatever we needed! I would HIGHLY recommend having a birthday party here! Everyone commented on how nice it was and it is very reasonably priced! Free ice water cups! 50 cent wheel cleaning machine, great crowd on adult night Cons- you can't exit with your own skates on to go outside, it has a ledge you have to step up on to to exit the floor so you can't just roll out and exit which is something I had to get used to. Everyone who's slow is skating everywhere not just the middle so there's really no room for people who aren't beginners when it's not adult night. read more

Went here for a birthday party today and had a blast! I haven't put on a pair of roller skates in 30 years, and planned to observe while my son enjoyed the party. But upon seeing how many people of all ages were skating, I went for it and am so glad I did! We're definitely going back next weekend for some more fun! read more
