What a treat to now have our very own Silk Road Spice Merchant in Edmonton in Old Strathcona located on Whyte Avenue! Previously, one would have to travel to Calgary to be spoiled by all of their amazing spices! Today, I sampled their fabulous mulled apple cider! Mmm... You just cannot beat that smell! It is the absolute perfect blend of spices to have simmering on your stove with apple juice as your guests arrive for Christmas supper! The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable! And did I mention the cuteness factor? I just loved the old world feel and layout of the store! I foresee many, many more trips here in the near future!

This is my favorite and only place to get spices!!! They have so many variety from all over the world!!! And they are fresh, prices are the same as the other stores and I think this is best price for the quality of the product you are getting!!!! I enjoy going there all the time I need to fill up my spice pantry!!!! My kids love it too, they have a little place for them to play!!! What a good place to enjoy the smells, flavor, and kid friendly!!!! If you haven't try the spices from this place, you have to do it!!! You won't go back to store products again!!!!

I finally made it into The Silk Road Spice Merchant! I am a fan of their Maple Smoked Salmon Rub, which I've purchased from Evoolution many, many times, so I've been wanting to come here pretty much since it opened. When I went inside, I became a kid in a candy store. No joke. They have testers for everything, so you can smell the deliciousness. I picked the Cajun Blackening Spice, Sharpless Ranch Smoky Barbecue Rub (seriously it smells like a smokehouse in a jar), Saltwater Chili-Lime Seasoning (the lady working here said she loves this on popcorn), and the Spanish Sweet Smoked Paprika (which will also be delicious on popcorn). Some items that stood out... I heard the lady mention they have ghost peppers here. You'll never catch me buying them, but it that's your thing, you just have to ask for them as they keep them hidden. They have a selection of asian spices, lots of different cinnamon mixes, several kinds of paprika (I like paprika), and they even have bitters! And I think it's a very large collection of bitters for cocktails. When the holiday season comes around, I might have to come back so I can make some festive beverages. They also have a selection of cookbooks, and kitchen tools. I bought a citrus zester. The staff are seriously wonderful. I was greeted and asked if I had any questions, and the girl working there spent time pointing out some of the popular selections, and answered any questions I had. All in all, what a great store... I highly recommend going here for any of your Spice needs!

Spice heaven!!

Spice heaven if it exists has a location here in Edmonton! I am a spice junkie, I love variety in my pantry and since moving here have not found many stores selling the unique varieties I used to be able to pick up. Then this lovely 'Yelp shops local' event happened and well... Wow! This will be my go to place for flavours!! They have a rainbow of bitters (an acquired taste I'm told) on top of huge options of herbs, spices and blends. PLUS they have gift packs pre-made or custom options to suit any foodie's tastes in your life. The staff are so helpful, and they have sample jars of most everything available and well the cool factor of the decor adds to the roll back in time feel that fits perfectly in old Strathcona. This is a must stop store for anyone who cooks. I mean I kinda want.. No, NEED to buy one of everything in this shop!!

The selection is amazing. Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Prices are fairly reasonable considering you are getting high quality spices from the other side of the planet. They even had the ghost peppers I have e been searching for. I went on a shopping spree for my birthday, and it was one of the best birthdays ever.

Prettiest Present - Moon jewellery! Love it! You look up the moon phase on a special date and buy the jewellery to commemorate that date.

The store doesn't have an exact closing date but it won't be very long. Currently seasonal items are 60-70% off (some seriously cute Xmas décor and ornaments) and the remainder of the store is 20-30% off. They have really cute jewellery and unique items for special gifts. I really like their line of moon necklaces/bracelets where you pick the phase of the moon on a special date (birth, death, wedding, etc.) and can wear it as jewellery. I also like their sparkly Swarovski crystal bracelets, earrings, and necklaces. Some stuff here for sure can be found elsewhere or online for less but that's not the point of a boutique store. It's getting to go somewhere and browse through various collections to find the perfect gift for someone special. If you're a fan of s'well bottles, they still have a fairly good collection of unique ones and at 20% off you're paying a fair price for the designer s'wells. (Note you can get plain jane ones at Costco for $30) but the ones here are GORGEOUS and make me smile. They're collection of wrapping papers and tissues is extensive and are sure to be able to wrap your gift to fit any occasion or theme. Seriously gonna miss the Prettiest Present!

Well I just adore this store!…read more Often you walk into gift shops, and yes, everything is lovely but you just don't really see anything practical; or everything is really expensive, or really niche. But at the Prettiest Present they really have a great variety of really useful gifts! From presents for those pooch peeps, to culinary and kitchen gadgets - as well as neat necessities. Then there are the baby gifts, the seasonal decor for your own abode, a wall of tempting teas and some really unique jewelry. And then the pies de resistance... they have the most fabulous collection of gift bags, gift boxes and paper so that when you find that perfect present you can also wrap it up without having to go to another store! Love it!! Although, I do not remember seeing ribbon or cards, I could be wrong, or maybe that's just asking for the moon. Pro Tip: Make sure to go into the basement! Often you go into a store like this and assume that down the steps is just a small smattering of a few other things. But in this case the basement is the majority of the shop. It is at least 3x larger then the upstairs portion. Happy shopping!

I love this store, it's just so much fun being here! You can find great gifts here at the Plaid…read moreGiraffe. Some people might find the items generic, but I argue they are anything but. There are many items that your family and friends will most likely get a kick out of. Most of it is for the female population though (as like most stores). The Plaid Giraffe carries Nine & Co. bags from Nine West, unique scarves, jewelry (wow, do they have jewelry), and other neat gift items. As I made my way through the store recently, one guy was browsing as well and, while his girlfriend paid for her brand new bag at the counter, he was picking up one item after another and saying "How sweet is this?!?" again and again. I have to admit, it was pretty amusing. But then, so is their selection. Among their items that will make you laugh and gasp are barbed wire toilet paper (TP with a barbed wire design on it) and -- get this -- a hair-coloring kit specifically for your "hair down there". I'm dead serious! I had never seen anything like it before. I mean, who does that? Not that I'm judging or anything ... hey, it's something new! But the colors available were electric blue, pink, and orange. Whoa, now there's somethin' freaky going on there! My favorite thing about the Plaid Giraffe though, is their jewelry, which is pretty much the inner half of the shop. They have it all color-coded, so there are your blues, then purples, and black and whites, and so on. Some of it is a little pricey, but it depends on what materials it has, right? I find that most of their earrings start at $9.99 and go up from there. They've also got a wide selection of those neat purse-hanger things that have been popping up everywhere. The idea is that you basically hang part of it on the edge of a table, and it has a hook that your bag can hang from. Your bag won't be on the floor and get dirty, and has its own place. The Plaid Giraffe also carries items that make great traveler gifts, if you are shopping for a globe-trotter. They have typical items like travel pillows, but with and fun designs, so they're not as boring. Anyway, that's just a peek at what they have in store. I'm already looking forward to my next trip here!

It's a really nice bag but it's a couple of years old now and the store no longer carries one like it. They have some really nice other bags though but not like my friends so I, personally, wasn't really interested. I did like their cute wallets made from different colored leather with fun designs or patterns on them. They have a lot of accessories. Their whole back half of the store is devoted to accessories. I found some great earrings that I've been looking for at some good prices; one pair was $9.99 and the other pair (a pair of square ones; I actually don't own square shaped earrings!) for $11.99. They have a lot of really nice but not too expensive looking jewelry. Their store is really nice and net with lots of open areas so you can actually breath. The two girls that were working were really nice and super friendly. They let me look around in peace without bugging me or pressuring me to buy something; it was really nice to just to my thing.
