Got the spaghetti and meatballs, looked good but once I got it home and opened it I noticed immediately that the pasta was undercooked! After warming it up and tasting it there was confirmation that the pasta was way under done, meatballs were dry and lacked seasoning! I enjoy going to this store. It's in a nice location with quality products. I admit that I haven't gone as much lately because in this economy, Sunterra just isn't for everyone, all the time. Today I was in the area and wanted to pop in. Grabbed a sandwich and a few other items. The chicken salad sandwich sounded tasty! Now. I understand 'shrinkflation', but this sandwich was crazy. The amount of chicken salad on this sandwich was negligible. There was two sandwiches packaged. I'm not sure why you wouldn't just pack one and double the amount of chicken. If I'm being honest - even doubling it would make it a tiny sandwich compared to any other one I've had in the city. Still love the store. The service is great. The store has a lovely set up. The pie shots at the bakery will always be a 10/10 - however - I don't think I will ever purchase or recommend a sandwich from here again. read more

I'm a picky eater. My mom's cinnamon buns were the best & my sister's are getting close. My sister lives in Calgary & I've never ventured into breadmaking. However I've sampled cinnamon buns from a LOT of Edmonton's bakeries & bistros. I've discovered a new favourite & one of the best characteristics is it's not priced @ $6/bun. Sunterra bakes a 9" diameter Pecan Cinnamon Ring which sells for $9,99. Examine it & you'll find it's made up of 6 or 7 cinnamon buns baked together. I carefully saw them apart with a bread knife & pop them in sandwich bags individually & freeze. Whether I'm brunching alone or with friends, I defrost overnight, pop them in a 350 degree oven until the butter/sugar/cinnamon filling is melting. Perhaps a light touch of butter? Close to what Mom made & less than $2 apiece! Bon appetit! read more

Sunterra is a small boutique grocery store that is close to home for me. It may be small but they have a great selection of most of the items you need or want. Some prices may be premium but usually the quality of the goods are worth it. They have a great selection of in-house made meals and individual items. They usually do special pre-made family meals for holidays but they also have these year-round. They have a small bakery and butchery in-house too. One of my favourite dessert there is the pumpkin pie with ginger whipped cream (you have to try it). They are doing online ordering, in-store and curbside pick-up for covid. If you go during the week, especially daytime it isn't too busy. I have seen line-ups on the weekends as they restrict shoppers for covid restrictions. They have sanitizer as you enter the store. Since this is in a little strip mall in Lendrum there is lots of parking and many other stores to check out! Looking forward to post-covid times when we can peruse these great shops more. read more

I've been to the downtown location of Sunterra a number of times, but I finally had the chance to check out the south side location in Lendrum. It is a grocery densely packed with many local and high end products. The selection of meat and produce is excellent, and there is a bistro where you can get a cup of coffee or something light to eat. Items here are pricier than in other groceries, but there are a lot of local and hard to find items. Good vibe here. read more

What an incredibly disappointing experience from this long-time Sunterra customer. Placed an order for over $250 that arrived damaged. One of two fresh mozzarella containers split open, and the milky liquid saturated the entire order of cheeses and Gravlax salmon. Dinner party ruined! Reached out to customer service immediately and even sent multiple pictures. Six messages and one week later, there has been no response! The entire Sunterra customer service team has gone AWOL. I am now forced to file a chargeback with Visa and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Really upsetting! read more

I have been ordering their food and deserts for various office occasions for years- always fresh, with quality ingredients, delicious and with great presentation. The last order was two slab cakes for an office gathering- carrot cake and chocolate cake- wow, they were to die for. The carrot cake is by far the best in town with the cream cheese icing, not too sweet, not dry and packed with goodness. The chocolate cake was out of this world- not too heavy, not too rich and not too sweet. I did not think this was even possible. I also asked for some writing and their pastry chefs were able to write on both the carrot, and the chocolate cakes. They always make their soups, and salads fresh daily and they also have sandwich and panini options too. It's mainly a grocery store, but there is a little section off to the side with tables to sit and eat. Sunterra is a true gem of a grocery store. I wish I was shopping here more often. Firstly, it's a co-op grocery store in that it is made up of the owners of Sunterra farms, a group of individually run farms around parts of Alberta. While they offer high quality meat and foul that are locally grown and humanely treated, they also have a pretty decent spread of vegetables and dairy that are invariably of local origins. When it comes to their meat it really does something to my taste buds. You can feel like you're eating healthier food - trust me! They are a complete grocery store. I believe you could find almost anything that you might need from a grocery store (and yes, I don't consider tylenol pills to be part of that list). A weird and different selection of jams and jellies. Very European in feel, when it comes to cookies, crackers etc. Certainly has that speciality store feel to it, yet maintaining affordable prices that get people to come here again and again. Their cheese choices and fresh/baked foods is also quite inviting. I've in fact got bread, cheese, deli meats and even packed lasagna once and have enjoyed all of them. Often times I'd pick up a coffee at their coffee bar before setting out on my aisling escapade. I agree with other reviews that Sunterra is a little more expensive, but to consider that they're sort of half-way between a Save On and a Planet Organic, and carry that fresh Californian feel to their store - I think it's totally worth the price. But then again, I am someone who would spend the extra bucks for better quality food and to support localness. read more

Ok, ok, it's a little pricey but some how, worth it. I find that the quality of the produce, deli and meat department are really excellent. I love that in the deli department there are so many delicious, unique and varied options of pre-made salads, etc. The cheese selection is excellent. I love all the super yummy gourmet sauces, crackers, oils, vinegars and other culinary treats that are found up and down the isles. And unlike large grocery stores you can can find everything you are looking for (and more) very quickly and easily because the store is small, filled only with quality foods, no processed, sugar filled U.S. boxed items that are chemically engineered and utterly lacking in nutrients. Sunterra is easily accessible from the Whytmud, with lots of parking and going "green" seems to be quite important to them. They also source quite a lot from local farms and ranchers. There is a little cafe in the market so you can pop in and buy something from the deli and have lunch or dinner. The only thing that I find can be somewhat of a problem is that sometimes they have inexperienced people working in the deli. So, you have to be patient and wait. read more

I recently stopped at Sunterra at Lendrum, I was truly disappointed. I had heard such great things and was looking forward to trying some of their products. I bought some raisin bread a premade spaghetti and meat balls and a Nanaimo bar. The bread had barely any rainins, the spaghetti lacked sauce and the meatballs tasted only of bread. As for the Nanaimo bar, I don't know what it was but it certainly wasn't a Nanaimo bar, the middle was like a tasteless pudding. I will never go there again. read more

I've only ever had Sunterra when a coworker has brought something to share at work, but I got a chance to try the south end location yesterday. I was never really sure what it was all about, if it was a health and organic market like Planet Organic or what. Browsing through the store yesterday, I saw it was more like Sobey's, a high-end grocery store where everything is fresh and top quality. They have a bakery and fresh deli, and an eating area where you can sit and relax, take a break from your grocery shopping, and enjoy some pasta salad or a slice of pie. I sat and savoured my raspberry chocolate brownie; the texture felt a bit hard for a brownie, and it was cold, as if it had been out for awhile. But it was still good, and I'll be back for another soon. The racks of bbq ribs at the deli looked really good too, as did their many pasta salads. It looks like they make their own dips as well, like guacamole, hummus, tzaziki. I like Sunterra, but I find it expensive. Sure, everything's fresh, but the stuff at Superstore is usually just as good. Plus, I wasn't sure about the half-cut grapefruits wrapped in saran wrap in their produce section. Are they allowed to do that? I don't think I'll be switching grocery stores anytime soon. But if I'm ever in the area and the mood for indulging in some quality foods, I'll probably stop by Sunterra again. read more

I remember going to Sunterra market downtown at Manulife place for lunch back in highschool, buying their freshly baked cookies, or pizza's or even their sandwiches or wraps that they make there. What i always would get is a box of salad at the salad bar were you can make it by yourself and have what ever you desire. This was also the place where i discovered vitamin water, cause it was the first store ive seen that carried it, even gas stations or convieniece stores didnt have them at the time. But my recent visit at this location i grabbed a bbq chicken wrap which cost about $5, it was fairly big, i got pretty full off of it. and i also got their freshly made juice for 2. i wanted a smoothie that i gotten before but i guess they didnt have any. More about this store is that its very unique. i havent been here during lunch hours where they serve food from the kitchen. I've decided that excellent food is something worth spending my hard-earned money on, and Sunterra has everything that I'm looking for, even though it's not always cheap. Although this little grocery isn't as large as the nearest Safeway or Save-On, it has everything I'm looking for. It even carries a lot of brands and products that other groceries don't, because the companies are smaller. I try not to eat meat too frequently, but I feel better knowing that the meat carried here is locally raised and transported. This is not factory farm style eats. I love the deli here, too. Last time, I picked up a maple yam salad. It was so delicious! Fiance picked up a sandwich that he enjoyed too. I'm always coming out of Sunterra Market buying more than what I came there for. Although the food there is a bit pricier than the average market, I don't mind spending that extra little bit. . There are so many specialty items that can only be found at Sunterra. Their fresh made meals are delicious as always. Their deli is exceptional. The meats are always fresh. They last in my fridge a week longer and taste far better than the deli meats I buy from Safeway, Save-on Foods, Sobey's, etc. The produce section is always fully stoked with rare items. Almost every time I visit the Italian market, Safeway, and the larger stores they are out of fresh herbs; but, not at Sunterra. I can always find fresh basil, cilantro, sage...the list goes on. I am in love with the aged-white cheddar and black olive sourdough bread and suggest that everyone try it. Their fresh bread makes great sandwiches and croutons. However, out of the six times I've visited, I've only been able to find this bread once. My only suggestion is to make more of this bread and more often. The workers at Sunterra are usually quite friendly. I suggest everyone check out Sunterra at least once. Sure you'll be spending more money, but it'll be worth every penny you spend. It's also a plus that it is a locally owned business. It makes me feel good that I'm supporting our economy rather than the large, private corporations. read more

There's some pro's and con's to Sunterra. I've been shopping there off and on for years and am afraid to say it's probably done. Positives! The bakery stuff we've tried is really good. Try the orange cranberry bread! So good! Their aisles have a good mix of food. Cashiers are always really friendly. Produce although slightly overpriced is good too! Negative. My main purpose of Sunterra has been lunch with my kids. Grab a sandwich, some veggies, a salad, and some other delicious goodies. The past few times our food has been hit and miss. This last time was really bad. My daughter who has never met a sandwich she didn't like wasn't eating. After checked out why the lettuce was slimy, and the bread was insanely dry. It was really bad. We moved on to the veggies. They were dry and old. I never thought to check before I bought because it's never been that bad. It was awful. The only thing my girls could eat in their veggie cup were the tomatoes. We had also got one of those chia cups. Never a miss with my youngest.... except for this time. There was a mouldy strawberry in it. Don't know if we'll be getting lunch anymore, but maybe we'd stop by for some aisle shopping. This was my second time stopping at this particular location. The first time I came here it was a little rushed as I was in a lunch break so I decided to take my time this time around and walk around a bit to see everything that they offer. I picked up one of their Friday feast dinners, a ready made beef stroganoff plus some odds and ends. I tried the feast dinner that night and I gotta say, I've had better meals for less. The dinner was pumpkin soup, tandoori chicken, turmeric rice and steamed cauliflower with a mango chutney and then a strawberry shortcake type dessert. Other than the tasty chutney and the dessert, everything else was pretty bland. Don't think I'll be buying another one of those. My boyfriend tried the stroganoff and there were maybe 4 pieces of beef and then the rest of it was huge chunks of celery (in stroganoff?), mushrooms and onion. The sauce was flavourless. Like a can of mushroom soup or something. I've definitely made better. All in all, I enjoy their selection in produce, pantry, deli and bakery goods but I won't purchase any more of their pre-made meals. read more

I had lunch at their Bistro as my better half did her grocery shopping. An excellent brie and ham panini with a side of delicious black bean soup. The food was exceptionally tasty and surprisingly good value for $8-ish. I found they had an excellent selection of other treats to nibble in the cafe area. Can't say I tried the coffee or anything else. As far as a supermarket goes, there are many neat little treats and exotic delicacies. I wish I had taken a photo. Their desert selection was wonderful and enough to give Mr. Atkins a cardiac arrest or inspire those on diets to consider capital crimes. Definitely will stop by again on my way south on 111th! This has got to be my favorite grocery store in the city. The produce is always amazing and Sunterra definitely has the best meat counter! The cuts always look fresh plus they will give you ideas to enhance the product (for example wrap bacon around the Santa Fe chicken breast to add another dimension of flavor - awesome and I would never thought of that!). Also, if you ask they'll tell you the best way to cook the meat and how long, always great to know especially if you're like me and do not enjoy anything overcooked! Loving a good market and fresh eats, my husband and I just landed on Sunterra two weeks ago. There are so many fresh options and dishes made from scratch. We love that the meat comes from their own farm, and last nights steaks were great. There is a great selection of condiments and side dishes, fruits and veggies, home style cooking, eat in or take home. Last nights blueberry pie was perfect (just like gram makes back east). Last weeks brownie and chocolate moose were delicious! Servers have been friendly and attentive on each visit. I'm sure we will find ourselves back here again soon. Slightly pricey, but their deli with an assortment of prepared foods (prepared fresh in store) is super convenient. Their Friday Night feasts are also a great idea, a different 3 course meal each week, packaged up and just needs to be reheated. I find the high prices can be offset with the Sunterra card points, which I actually redeem at their commerce place location for lunch. Excellent quality, but mostly is not organic, I would hold a health food store above conventional food. However they do have some very unique good products. The prepared foods are reasonably priced for what they are, you know they are doing to be fresh and taste good. The deli area has good prepared food that is fresh and tasty. Prices are high and you could by organic elsewhere for the premium prices they charge for conventionals. Many gourmet products are there to choose from. I bought some Bison prosciutto that was amazing and the pies were reasonably priced. It would be good to pay attention to what you are buying to make sure you are getting good value as some items are less competitive than others. If you don't care about organics and price isn't a concern and like prepared and gourmet foods than this is a a good fit for those customers. read more

I found Sunterra Market last summer and have since had a smile plastered across my face just thinking about it. It's a touch pricey, but I wouldn't have it any other way! I'm a big believer in supporting anything that is unique or local. Sunterra is both! They have a wide selection of ready made foods, everything from chicken breast, quinoa salad and green onion cakes to fresh salads, fruit cups and a daily menu of interesting foods to sit down with! Some of the menu items are a total bust, I'm not interested in sugar coating it, but others are an amazing find. The soups are crazy delicious, and breakfast is always my favourite. They deliver a small town feel, tucked away in a nowhere strip mall, standing their own against the big chains and franchises. The summer-time is a great selection of fresh veg and fruit, amazing meat selection, bread selection and a dessert section you'll be hard pressed to walk by without buying a treat or two... Nobody said anything about sharing right? Oh! And don't pass up the weird stuff... The bottled drinks are amazing. Dandelion or burdock tea? Go for it! So we came here last night in the hopes to pick up a quick dinner to eat before seeing a show at the Freewill Shakespeare Festival. The deli here has a lot of great options and there's an industrial microwave that you can use to heat up cold deli options on a plate. Of course the microwave settings aren't terribly clear so I'm not terribly fond of that problem, we used the microwave with a more trial and error philosophy than anything else. I like how the deli staff can provide you a to-go container to put it in after you warm it up if you're going to eat it on the go. The grocery store itself carries a lot of fancy boutique items and has a pretty old fashioned check out but with some of the more recent technology so that's neat. The store itself seems very functional but somehow a bit old fashioned as well. They have amazing lasagnas, quiches, pot pies, and so many other amazing things that you can just pop in the oven and they're ready to go! And no one even has to know! Sunterra has a lot of local produce (always fresh). It's a great place for groceries if you're willing to spend a little more for the freshness and quality. I bought some pink coated strawberries to support breast cancer research and, let me tell you, they were beyond delicious. In fact, they were finger-licking good! And I don't lick my fingers often! If you need a break from shopping, they have a little area where you can eat or drink a coffee to recharge before finishing your shopping. It's also a good place to people watch. I like it here. Inside you'll find a pretty sound grocery store. However, I tend to come here once a week for lunch. Unfortunately, there a number of things on the menu that seem too salty. This includes things like the Big Pans and Paninis. However, there are things I love in the store. This includes the deserts and the cut fruit. My favourite has to be the quinoa salad. It's a little on the sweeter side, but really appeals to me. The prices reasonable here, which is why I am a weekly visitor. I am a huge fan of Sunterra Market. It's a brightly lit, clean store with big windows facing the street. I always feel relaxed and happy when I shop there, there's something about the ambiance that makes me just feel content to linger in the aisles. Their motto, "Real Food from Real Farmers", is reflected in their produce section, deli and meat counters. Their produce section is full of fruit & veggies, many of which are grown in Alberta. It's particularly fun in the summer to buy AB-grown fruit and veggies, load them up in my bicycle panniers and ride home with a colourful array of produced peeking out of my bags! There's a small frozen section next to the fresh meat station. Confession: I have a weakness for MacKay Ice Cream, made in Cochrane, AB. The cookies & cream and Columbian Coffee flavours are delicious and addictive. I usually buy a small bucket when I'm at Sunterra :) The fresh meat section has Alberta beef, turkey,chicken, pork,etc. Surprisingly, I find their prices are very comparable to grocery store chains. The deli/BBQ counters are my favourite areas. Such a tantalizing array of prepared salads like quinoa apple, Greek and broccoli/bacon/grape. Their green onion cakes are so good; I heat them up at home in a frying pan until they get super crispy. They also offer ready-to-eat stuff like teriyaki chicken breasts &cajun salmon steaks which are cooked in-store and ready to grab for a quick lunch at one of the tables or to take home for a quick supper. There's also a baked goods section, featuring freshly made bread and desserts. The pies are tasty! I tend to avoid the aisles, as the products in the centre of the store are sometimes quite pricey compared to other stores. Mostly I just stick to the fresh sections surrounding the store. I was tempted to buy The Barefoot Contessa's coconut cupcake mix, but it was over $10. Too pricey for me! Definitely worth a visit! Overall a good experience. I just went in to check the place out after driving by it for years. Its a small grocery store. They have lots of premade meals which is handy. It seemed very crowded. (Meaning aisles close together, bakery racks in the way) Things seemed a bit pricier that at your average store, but they also had a lot of different stuff you wouldn't find at an average store which I liked. The staff seemed to be preoccupied chatting and there was a manager (I'm assuming) walking around sort of yelling at employees which put me off. But the staff I actually interacted with were quite friendly and helpful. I definitely will go back, just to see if they can get the other couple stars. read more

I like the pre-made food here. They serve food that tastes healthy and fresh, although it is on the salty side. Also, I like that their daily specials are different every day which indicates that it's being made fresh daily. I've never felt sick after eating their food, nor do I feel dizzy (a sign of food additives), it's just a bit too salty (if any employees from Sunterra reads this please pass on this feedback) and therefore lethal to people with high blood pressure. If they adjusted the salt levels, I would give five stars. I feel that I'm eating real food and not processed crap that most franchised eateries serve. read more

This place is great! To be honest, I've been here dozens of times but usually to frequent the little cafe for a quick sit-down lunch. I've yet to do some serious shopping here but, trust me, I will. From my experience though, the food is always fantastic, made out of quality ingredients.
