Finally I made a return visit and I'm happy to say the frappe was of the correct consistency. The line moved fast. Excellent! There are plenty of picnic tables in the shade, and don't overlook the tortoises directly behind the building. There's also a small pond, fenced in, with several turtles in back. This location offers the family much beyond good ice cream to discover and it's only a short side trip from the main routes. I left feeling rescued and looking forward to my next time becoming shipwrecked. read more

I have been here a few times and their ice cream is amazing. The grounds to enjoy them on are wonderful too. They make it a very cutesy spot to get and savor ice cream on the cape! They have the best staff and that just adds to the experience. I love this spot. It is cute and the ice cream is brag worthy! read more

This place is really cool. The people who work there are so friendly and welcoming. A true Cape gem with plenty of history and room to relax. All that considered go for the ice cream. Sooo good and plenty of classic flavors mixed in with newer fun favorites. Try the Crunchy Frog. It's delicious. read more

Obsessed w/ their Death by Chocolate sundae. It's chocolate madness ice cream (chocolate w/ chocolate chunks and fudge swirl, they must make it themselves) with hot fudge, Oreos, whipped cream, and sprinkles. TBH the kicker for me was the Oreos were chocolate Oreos! Sooo yummy (but also quitteeee large! Only option was regular or bigger and it was huge) My gf got the moose tracks which she loved $15 total I believe - sundae was a little pricey (a sign said $1.25 for extra toppings!!!!) but it was great for a special treat! Place was huge with a ton of room and had great vibes :) would def come here again read more

The Shipwreck Ice Cream - Death by Chocolate Sundae (regular) - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Sandwich, Massachusetts

Fantastic ice cream and frozen yogurt so many choices. Nice outdoor seating in the shade.

There's nothing like ice cream on the Cape and this place does it right! I visited on a Saturday night and the place was busy, with a pretty long line, but it moved quickly. The line forms outside and there are plenty of picnic benches, but there didn't seem to be an indoor area. There's also plenty of parking available, so that wasn't an issue. This place had very nostalgic vibes, with a list of all the flavors on the exterior of the building. Lots of the flavors came in funky colors, which is always fun. My only critique would be that there weren't many chunks mixed into the ice cream for some of the cookie-based flavors, so it would have been nice to have more of that textual element. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for ice cream on a nice day! read more

Love the vibes of walking up to a wooden building with outdoor bench seating and a wall of flavors all written in colorful lettering on wood panels. Immaculate summer in New England aesthetic. Ice cream was just okay though - I got Sandbar Swirl (graham cracker) with hot fudge and overall thought the ice cream was a bit flavorless and the fudge was too sweet/not deep chocolate flavor. Overall, come here for the vibes but go elsewhere for more exceptional ice cream. read more

Great flavors, great taste, great service, easy in and out parking lot from the highway. Room to pull in a boat or RV. Gravel lot, brick and concrete patio. Shaded picnic table seating in the grass or partial shade under umbrella tables in gravel, a little difficult for a wheelchair or walker. read more

Thick, hearty, creamy, fatty, rich & delicious traditional ice cream. Mile long menu with tons of fun flavors, even something for your four legged friends. Personally I frequent the purple cow and the black raspberry chip, the heath bar is great too. Hit the spot. Great choices - had a chocolate raspberry and the coconut with almonds (Shipwreck). Good stuff. Great summer spot.

I love ice cream! So while in town, my family recommended I try Shipwreck. My husband ordered a watermelon and pineapple dolewhip twist, which was delicious. I ordered a scoop of banana and a scoop of chocolate chip...not delicious. Not sure what went wrong, but the banana ice cream didn't taste like anything. The chocolate chip was ok until I started tasting mint -- yuck. So I gave my cone to my husband to finish (he can't turn down ice cream) and after one taste he threw it away. He said he never met an ice cream he didn't like... until that. read more

It is so very good. I had the butter pecan, and it was very, very good and they put actual chunks. I would totally recommend it.

Loved the orange pineapple plus loved the Dutch apple. Real fruit pieces. Huge scoops. Yummy waffle cone with chocolate on bottom. Friendly patient service. Nice atmosphere. Definitely check it out. read more

Love the homemade flavors of ice cream and all the options. Great place to take the whole family, even our dog loves the pup cup! The service is always friendly and patient! The laid back Cape Cod atmosphere is perfect for the location. read more

This place is fantastic! The have like 30+ flavors of all sorts, including ones that seem specific to here. I got a regular size (read: huge by Cambridge/Boston standards) with a scoop of strawberry shortcake and a scoop of butter crunch (vanilla with butterscotch pieces). The TLDR is...delicious! Both were so refreshing and also pleasant flavors for a summer day. There is a nice picnic area with a bunch of tables, many of which have good shade from the sun, and a group of little kids was playing. A great place for a great day. read more

Fabulous ice cream in an awesome setting!!! Love the winter hours! Their peanut butter sauce is to "die for...."

Great treat in the heat! Ordered Butter Pecan with Malted milk balls as a topping. Not bad. read more

Ice cream was good and creamy. It melted sooo fast though and it was a pretty cold day. They homemake their ice cream and have a couple of original flavors. read more

Shipwreck icecream not only stays open year round, but has a huge selection of flavors and treats. Best icecream in town.

This is such a fun find. After dinner, we saw a long line and a sign that said ice cream, so we made a quick right and stood in line. They have so many flavors. I had the cherry chocolate truffles and the watermelon sherbert. The watermelon was creamy, soft, light, and refreshing. It was the perfect summer treat. The chocolate was good too but was completely outshown by the watermelon. The grounds is also pretty cool. Lots of picnic tables, large green yard, and a cornhole set. read more

Despite being cash only - it's worth the short drive to the ATM and back! The Shipwreck is a magical place that delves out some of the best ice cream in the region. People will try to find minute things to complain about such as: the wait time, or that it is cash-only, or try a super experimental flavor to give a bad rating to this regional gem. I say let them try to drive anyone away with these fallacies because this is the only place I'll get ice cream from in the area despite the wait times and cash-only policy. You have plenty of time to browse the massive choices that change continually throughout the weeks, months, and year. While there are staples to the menu there are also some experimental flavors that sound "interesting" to be kind... but I'm more of a traditional, purist when it comes to the world of ice cream. That said, there are also opportunities to taste up to 2 flavors before making a decision which is nice because it can get overwhelming quickly as you approach the window. The choices are pretty standard - the variety of cones, cups, and sundae/special treats all fueled by the creamy dreams that the owners churn for their loyal fans. This is not your light/diet, soft serve, sugar-free ice cream (well, they do offer lower sugar versions of 2ish flavors). This is racing fuel, full-throttle, flavor-town-bomb that hits all the right notes without being overpowering in the richness and leaving you gasping for water when you are done. The flavors and textures push the envelope or toe the line to the point of being too much without actually crossing over into the realm of excessive. Too much coffee added? Nope. Too little oreo or cookie dough? Nah. Too strong of a salty or caramel base? Negative. The deft hand used to balance the added flavors to the base is something that most people overlook in ice cream, where the current trends of "more is better" instead of realizing "more is just... more." If there is too much added to the mixture it drowns or mutes the high quality base that is being used which at this establishment would be a disservice to the end product. I don't think you can particularly go wrong with anything you would order here, but let me give some advice when picking: 1 - If you don't like licorice (or a certain flavor), don't order it and then say you don't like it 2 - Go basic the first time around; 1 or 2 scoops in a cup (if you're low-er carb...) or in a cone of your choice 3 - If you do 2 different flavors try to choose complimentary flavors. On the warm evening we visited the intersection of the two flavors became a salty-caramel-coffee dream that I have no regrets about. However, if you are doing mint-cookie (oreo) and purple monster (no idea what that actually is) you may have a less than ideal experience through those transition bites. Now let's talk about the seating space... which is all outside :P The area is rustic and feels a bit divey, but that's part of the allure. People seem to really enjoy the fact that you can sit around a bunch of makeshift tables and visit with the rabbits or turtles that are kept in the surrounding cages. There is also a lot of green space to spread out on while you and your group gorge yourself on the more than reasonably priced frozen treats that were just procured. At the end of the day, I speak with two voices: 1 - My money 2 - My reviews The Shipwreck gets both of them and will continue as we vacation out toward the cape throughout the year. It's worth the drive, the "hassle" of waiting or needing cash, and perhaps not eating your treat in air conditioning like I used to growing up. I'm not sure how it has less than 5 stars across the board, but it's okay if it stays a little under the radar in my opinion ;) read more

Spent the day exploring Cape Cod and decided to find some ice cream on the way home. This was conveniently located on our way home. The ice cream is creamy and delicious. Hubby got the vanilla with their homemade hot fudge, and he liked it. I def enjoyed the chocolate raspberry truffle. The salty caramel was just ok, and the chocolate pretzel that was in it was stale tasting. I would come back, as they offer unusual flavors like pumpkin and ginger, so there's lots left for the taste buds to explore. Oh, and it's cash only! Joy! read more

My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just enjoy your ice cream while it's on your plate. Thornton Wilder But since you're inquiring, this place is great. The star of the show, the ice cream is top notch. Lots of flavors and toppings. I had a peanut butter sundae. I usually get bored after a while eating sundaes, but this had really good ingredients and the portion was perfect. Enjoy it while its on your plate...er bowl. read more

Great ice cream shop nearby a lot of restaurants. Be sure to grab cash and be ready to enjoy delicious ice cream on their nice property. Lots of seating available along with some bunnies to look at on the property. Ice cream was generous portions, and super tasty!!! My only recommendation would be for them to have some of the off name ice creams to have descriptions somewhere. I checked around before asking but the girl working the counter nicely described flavors for me and for my father in law. I just feel bad for them I'm sure they say the same things over and over all day! read more

Great ice cream near the canal. Kiddie cone more than enough! Be warned, like so many other places today on the Cape CASH ONLY.

If you want to give your tastebuds the best experience you *must* try the salted caramel truffle ice cream. You will not be disappointed!

Sooooo I've been a huge Icecream Sandwich patron but after the new ownership and it being closed on a Tuesday in August ‍ we headed over to Shipwreck! It did not disappoint! We ordered the Boardwalk Mud/Cookies and Cream with hot fudge and whipped cream, a small Raspberry Sorbet and a Lemon Sorbet. All were amazing!! We also loved that they have bunnies and a koi pond... with turtles!! We will definitely be back! read more

11am July 4th. I assume they just opened no line no waiting, 2 reg (medium) sundays and a small chocolate cone $16.55. The young lady says "can i put the cone in a cup, it's realy soft" hmmm if they just opened how can the icecream be soft? The hot fudge had hard clumps in it, the whipped cream was runny, we still enjoyed i but what was bothersome was all the trash around the outdoor tables, you'd that after they close or before they open they'd pick the trash up. read more

I hope people read this review and it becomes a rallying cry for people with families like myself. The Shipwreck Ice Cream does NOT accept credit cards. Gimmie a f**king break!!!! There are signs all over the place stating "CASH ONLY". The stupidity here is MIND-BLOWING. EVERY study of its kind emphatically proves that accepting credit cards INCREASES profits. The fact that the owner of Shipwreck does not understand this is frustrating to say the least. Maybe if he spent less time with his stupid turtles and more time reading a business book he might realize he's LOSING MONEY!!!! I was ready to spend my money there yesterday and had to leave with my kids disappointed because I use debit cards, because, it's like... 2018!!!! To me-this is discrimination plain and simple. Also, why else would a business do cash-only in 2018 except that they are not reporting their profits to the IRS? (I am not claiming that the shipwreck does this, I am only asking the question). I don't care about the f**king turtles. Boycott this business! walk in with your credit card and tell them they are not getting YOUR business! This is the only way to make progress in society! I bet the owner uses a f**king debit card to buy his turtle food! read more
