This place has one of the best 2 cheeseburgers in town. It's called the Shack for a reason. That is what it is. Good food and cold beer is what this is known for.

Great Cheeseburgers and Fries! Kinda busy, took a little bit to get waited on but after that service and food was great! *Added my pics a few days after eating there. Cell Service is not great inside the shack.

Stop by here to pick up a burger to go. It was listed as one of the top three in Topeka Kansas been here for awhile, good atmosphere friendly people. The burger was great would recommend.

Burgers were fantastic and staff was super friendly. Awesome family atmosphere and will for sure come back. Highly recommend!!

Had the double with cheese and bacon. Mmmm. Wife had a "porky". She said it was really good as well. Really good for '"bar food".

My wife grew up going there. The god is good and the service is great. You'll want cash as there's a fee if you use plastic.

Food is good a lot bigger portions when you eat there than take out for some reason. They are a good little hideaway place to eat

Yolk House - Crispy chicken burrito

Juanita's Favorite was listed online at $10.99, but when I picked it up, we were charged $13.99. If you order over the phone, make sure to confirm the price beforehand. My husband and I decided to try Yolk House today, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. My husband ordered Juanita's Favorite, which is described as a keto-friendly omelet with ground beef, grilled onions, Monterey Jack cheese, topped with guacamole, and served with apple chicken sausage. The sausage was undercooked, the omelet appeared overcooked, and instead of guacamole, it came with just a plain slice of avocado. That substitution alone was frustrating, but paired with the quality issues, it really missed the mark. I ordered the crispy chicken burrito, described as scrambled eggs, crispy chicken, shredded cheese, and pico de gallo on a 10-inch tortilla. The burrito was poorly assembled, with large, dry chunks of chicken nuggets, overcooked eggs, and no pico de gallo at all. Instead, it had cheese sauce poured on top. The presentation was honestly unappetizing--it looked rushed and thrown together, as if a small child had made it. The aesthetics of both dishes were not appealing, which made the food even harder to enjoy. That said, the inside of the restaurant is nice, clean, and spacious, and I appreciated that they offer outdoor seating. It's the kind of place we would have enjoyed returning to once the weather warms up--if the food had matched the atmosphere. Unfortunately, due to the food quality and pricing discrepancies, we will not be returning.

The kids got the non alcoholic drinks and felt super fancy with how they were served. We ordered the crispy chicken breakfast burrito, veggie breakfast burrito, kids breakfast burrito, yogurt cup, and sweet potato puffs. Everything was so so good. The sweet potato puffs tasted homemade.

Service was a bit slow, and we were disappointed to find they were out of barbecue for the day. However, the food overall was good (albeit pricey), and the beer was excellent. I had the fish and chips with a side of creamed spinach and it was flavorful. Others at my table enjoyed the fettuccine Alfredo, wings, and burgers. I appreciate that the server provided a free dessert after spilling a water on one of our diners. Overall, I would return, though I have some qualms after reading some other reviews, particularly relating to hygiene.

There were zero people there. The menu hasn't changed over the years but the food just wasn't the same. It wasn't bad but wasn't good either. The service was great and everyone was friendly, and it's still a cool space, but the reviews I read were right it's just not the same place. The wings were smoked but didn't really have any flavor. The chicken sandwich was 75% bun, the Cesar salad was good portioned but dressing just tasted bitter and wet.

My husband asked about a chicken friend steak, so I Yelp'd and low-and-behold, Cook's is really close to where we were. I was raised in a small midwestern town, and this, folks, is a quintessential midwestern diner! I didn't snap a pic of the menu, but ordering is done at the register and all the prices are very reasonable. I ordered a coffee & western omelette, which came with a side of hash-browns and biscuit. The coffee, very standard diner percolator brewed stuff, was fresh and the perfect consistency. The food was served quickly by a cheerful waitress who came by a few times to continue to check on us. My husband was very pleased with his chicken fried steak, hash-browns, eggs and toast. My breakfast was well-portioned; not a huge plate but definitely ample, fresh and tasty! The best part of the experience for me what the cleanliness of the dining room. Not fancy- utilitarian carpet, linoleum table tops- but so clean, fresh and well-tended. It seemed busy for a Thursday morning; more than half the dining room was occupied, and the low storefront of the building is easy to miss, but I was confident these customers were regulars. We don't live in Topeka, but this is now my fav restaurant there, so I plan to return!

So a couple Friday nights ago our large party of family and friends visited the reincarnated old school steakhouse (former speakeasy) to celebrate my wife's birthday. We could not have been more satisfied with the level of personal attention and service from both our hard worker server and Amy one of the new owners herself. They truly made us feel like welcomed and like long time regulars. I highly recommend reservations using their website system during daytime non-business hours. They were able to add a late addition of 4 extra guests to our party due to another cancellation, but trust me and get a reservation particularly on weekends. On to the table. Their fresh dinner rolls were to die for. Soft and deliciously doughy. We loved the family style french fries and hash browns served with wonderful bowls of brown country gravy on the side for dipping or smothering. The bacon wrapped filets were perfectly prepared and had that classic steakhouse smoked flavor from the bacon. And lastly, the North Star bread pudding was world class if you're an aficionado of the homestyle treat. We can't wait for our soon to come next visit!
