Clearly there is a chef here who is intent on quality and consistency in the food. It is a beautiful space. Very open, we arrived early so we were able to enjoy the quiet of the restaurant. The butter board was worth the visit to this restaurant. I had the candied pork chop, it was good, a little overcooked, and I would have preferred it without the Parmesan as the roasting on the top gave it a bitter after taste. We had kind of a mixed experience here. The best part about it was our server, Jazzy, who was amazing and very fast. She took great care of us! We would come back just to experience her. Incredible disposition, and amazing attitude! The food wasn't the best. The onion soup had so many pieces of bread in it that it soaked up all the soup. My wife was disappointed. I had the shrimp cocktail, which was kind of bland and disappointing. The cocktail sauce was marginal and really didn't have enough horseradish. We shared the Cajun chicken pasta for dinner and I enjoyed it. The chicken was a little bit too burnt. But overall the dish and especially the sausage was too spicy for my wife. She was not able to enjoy it. We did enjoy the atmosphere and decor in this restaurant, as it was very classy. After we finished our dinner, Jazzy brought a piece of birthday cake for me. My wife and I Visited for dinner on the evening of Saturday, March 29th. This is a really nice restaurant on Kansas Blvd in Topeka. We were quickly seated by the host in a seat directly in front of the bar. We ordered drinks and an appetizer, crab cakes, to start. Unfortunately, both the drinks and the appetizer took a really long time to get to our table. Once we received our order, everything was great. We ordered dinner after finishing the apps and once again, it took forever to get our food. I had the half herb chicked and smashed potatoes and my wife had the coconut shrimp. Both entrees were okay but nothing to write home a out. Lastly,we had to wait for a long time to get our bill. We will NOT be returning to this restaurant. read more

After reading the reviews, I'm curious what a non-holiday evening might be like here. My friend was looking for a fancy place to go for Valentine's Day and we came here. They had a prix fixe menu (which apparently the exhausted waitress had to break down to other patrons before we got there, because she treated us like kindergartners who would never have heard of such a concept... imagine a tone dripping with condescension "you cannot just order the entree - it comes with a starter, soup, AND dessert." I did have to hold my tongue and not respond in kind. We started with drinks that were largely OK. I ordered their bread board to absorb the alcohol, and was disappointed. While the display was pretty, the homemade butter left a lot to be desired, and the bread was mediocre. I ordered the gnocchi, which was OK, but the sauce was basic. My friend ordered the duck as he had never had it before. He liked it, and said he would order it again. As we did order from the prix fixe menu, Panna cotta was the only dessert option - and considering I didn't feel like ordering and paying for a separate dessert obviously mine went to my friend. Anyone who knows what Panna cotta is would know that it is also not vegetarian. Obviously, our esteemed waitress did not know. When I brought it to her attention by asking if there was a vegetarian alternative (earning me the "what part of prix fixe didn't you understand" look), she was shocked and went to the kitchen to check to make sure I wasn't an err... she returned and confirmed that it was indeed made with gelatin. No offer to replace it or apology or anything... Which is fine, by that time I had kind of had enough of the restaurant. Needless to say, I was not impressed with the service or food. Visited the Weather Room for a family gathering. My husband ordered the steak tips over mashed potatoes. He received a large platter with mashed potatoes in the center and beef tenderloin tips, grilled onions and mushrooms in a dark gravy over the entire plate. All sides are extra as are dinner rolls and bread. The beef tips were good, cooked as he wanted them. Taste was OK. I ordered the candied pork chop described as a "marinated pork chop, with bacon, brown sugar, Parmesan cheese; served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes." The pork chop was far from marinated. It was very dry with a pile of chopped bacon, and maybe brown sugar on top. The pork chop had NO FLavor. The topping was good, but this is not what I know as marinated. The garlic mashed potatoes were good and there was a small amount of greens on the plate. My average rating is for my disappointment in the not so "candied pork chop." Side salad is large. Service is very good. Prices for cocktails is very high. read more

Reasonable prices, good service, undistinguished ambience but truly mediocre cuisine. My wife and I chose The Weather Room because of good reviews. We were completely disappointed. Some details: We both ordered steaks. She chose the rib eye, and I, in the spirit of Topeka, chose the strip. The rib eye was the thinnest we've ever seen. Both steaks were extremely over-salted (mine was barely edible), and both were quite overcooked. In my case, I asked for "rare" and it was cooked beyond medium. My wife had risotto as a side. It was also barely edible, largely because the ratio of cheese to rice was so far off. It was basically a cheesy goo with some rice added. I had brussel sprouts. They, too, were terribly prepared. The tough stems had not been removed, and they were charred on the outside (that's good), but my guess is that they'd not been parboiled, so there were tough as leather. My wife asked for condiments for her steak - either bearnaise sauce or horseradish. Neither was available. Our server was excellent, and, as I mentioned before, the prices were not outlandish. The atmosphere in the restaurant was what I might expect in any average place - it could have been in a mall. Bottom line - it was pretty awful. read more

The drinks were out of this world amazing! Love the pumpkin tini and the banana bread cocktails!!! The salmon was cooked perfectly and went so well with the brussel sprouts side and risotto. Four ladies having dinner for a birthday celebration. For dinner we had the smothered pork chop with mushroom risotto, the garlic & herb chicken (x's 2), and the autumn harvest salad with grilled chicken. Dessert was creme brulee, and the mini brownie sundae. For drinks it was a bottle of prosecco and the Fleur 75. Everyone was very pleased with their food, dessert, and drinks! Not a complaint to be had. Our salad lover said it was one of the best salads she's ever had. The mushroom risotto was excellent. The pork chop was bone-in and not dry. Avoid The Weather Room, there are much better places to dine in Topeka. The experience with the staff was very disappointing and set the tone for a very poor experience, and the food is not worth the price, it's average at best - very reminiscent of Denny's or Blue Moose, but double the price. Keep reading for all the details. Today, we took my parents to Easter brunch and thought this place would be more upscale than the average restaurant, considering it was $45 a plate for brunch. We had 11:30am reservations and the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived since they had only been open for 30 minutes. We were seated in a dark windowless room, in the very back, while there was plenty of open seating available in the bar area and main rooms. I asked to move to a booth or table in the main room and we were told "no" those are reserved. I also had a reservation, so it made no sense that we were not able to have a better table. We had to speak with 3 different people before it was approved to move to a table in the main room. I want to specifically mention the guy with red hair in charge of hostess seating, he was very condescending and dismissive when we asked for a new seating arrangement. He seems better suited for a back of house position that isn't customer facing. He said he needed to verify if any other table was going to cancel and it would take 20-30 minutes! If the restaurant had been full, I can understand the hesitation or confusion, but it was almost empty, being it had just opened and we were among the first to arrive. It's easy to move a party from one 4 top table to another, then seat the next party with the later reservation at the other table. That is not what happened until we spoke with 3 different people. Not the Easter experience I had hoped for! The buffet itself had a decent presentation, but each item was flavorless. The Cesar salad had pre shredded cheese in it, and food service croutons. What type of restaurant puts preshredded cheddar in a Cesar salad?! And making croutons is one of the most basic items to elevate a salad. If you're going to put cheddar shred in Cesar, at least make it freshly grated. The orzo salad was bland, fingering potatoes were well done but nothing special, ratatouille was super dry and bland (the eggplant slices were like leather and to tough to eat), the wild rice was good and nicely seasoned, and the rolls were extremely dry. I'm a vegetarian so I did not try the meat or fish, but no one was raving about it. The dessert bar was decent for a small buffet, and the apple pie I had was good. My family does not drink, so I can't speak to the mimosas though I'm not sure if that was part of the buffet price or not. Also, the place setting did not include a spoon, so there was nothing to stir our coffees with, and when we asked for more water abd a spoon, service was very slow. Overall, we dined for about 2 hours, and never once were all tables full, if anything the restaurant only ever reached half capacity. And due to the very poor experience and the incapability of red haired guy to tactfully assist with our request, it set the tone for a poor Easter brunch and we will not be back or recommending this place to anyone. Dine on over priced mediocre food at your own risk. This place has potential, very cute decor, unfortunately the poor service and average food overshadow the atmosphere. read more
