The name caught my attention & the coffee caught my palate. I've been wanting to try this place for a while but it seems to close before time. Finally caught it and I was amazed by all of the different kinds of coffee beans all around the store. I just wanted a coffee and pastry and that's what I got. It was an iced coffee with mocha & a brownie. The iced mocha was very good, that's my face. The brownie was also good, moist on the inside and a light crunch on top, read more

This place smells amazing when you walk in. When you get there you pay at the counter then just grab a cup and pour it yourself from the drip machine which is interesting. Coffee itself was fine, nothing special. If you're just trying to grab a cup and go this is a solid spot. There's almost nowhere to sit so don't come here expecting to hang around. read more

My favorite spot in the neighborhood to grab a pound of coffee beans. They have so many blends and flavors. They have a wonderful selection of teas too. There isn't seating inside but there is a bench outside and honestly it's so lovely to just grab a cup there and enjoy it on a walk through Central Park. read more

What a quaint local coffee shop!!! It's easy to just walk past it, but if you go inside, they feature not only FREE coffee of their beans you can take with you and go, but also can purchase so many different kinds of roasts. It's really nice to see so many people come in. I will say the lady at the front seemed a bit agitated - but her other staff were lovely and helpful. You can purchase the beans by 1/4, 1/2, pound etc. Happy this small business is in the area! read more

Small coffee shop, but I think people come here to buy coffee beans. There's a limited coffee and pastry menu. No seating inside but it's nice that they put out some tables and chairs outside. Could get crowded due to limited space. read more

This is a neighborhood Icon! I love it. It is slightly off the beaten path and so welcoming. You can smell the coffee as you approach and see the happy and content coffee lovers seated in front of the window. The staff is always kind and accommodating and helpful with their expertise. read more

My daughter who lives in NY came to visit during Thanksgiving. She wanted me to try coffee from her favorite coffee shop. She brought home some almond joy flavored coffee, wow what a nice treat. It was good quality coffee with a hint of an almond joy candy bar. I'm not sure how they infuse these flavors but I am hooked. I checked their website and they deliver - I'm so excited to try their other flavors. I just wish we had a location in San Francisco. read more

I can confidently tell you this is a very loved coffee shop. I say so because, when I mentioned to the man helping me, that this was my first time here, several different people stopped me on my way out to stress how special this store is to them. I got a cup of hazelnut coffee and a canelé. It was a really nice hazelnut coffee, and the pastry blew my mind. I never had canelé before, but now I know! Great little shop, will definitely be back. read more

I had no idea this place existed. I was just on google maps looking for coffee shops in the area that were not a Starbucks or a place I have been before. When I stepped foot in here I was not expecting it to be crammed with barrels of coffee and teas. Not sure if they are always there or if it was just on that day and time I went. Seemed a bit chaotic in there. But was cool to see many different kinds of coffee and such. I got an iced latte decaf and it was ok ... Think there was a bit too much milk. But it was drinkable. They seemed to have many interesting flavors of coffee too that you could add in. I would possibly give this place another try and try out a flavor coffee. read more

I'm sorry this is THE PLACE! Unassuming & pour your own coffee? And FINALLY some decaf drip coffee?? If you find yourself on the upper west side- it is worth the stop! So many different roasts to choose from, cheap & incredibly flavorful coffee- would -100% go again- what a vibe read more

The Sensuous Bean - a person holding a cup of coffee - Coffee & Tea Near Me - New York, New York

I recently returned to The Sensuous Bean. A coffee roasting shop just off Columbus Avenue on West 70th Street. While there are many places you can buy coffee and tea, there is indeed something very sensuous about walking inside their very intimate coffee shop! When I strolled in I was intoxicated by the rich and powerful aromas of their fabulous coffees. I was waited on by Oli, I described the kj d of coffee I was looking to but snd Oli recommended that I try Tip of the Andes! The coffee was outstanding! The taste, yes, it was an enlightening and joyous to savor this rich and flavorful coffee! I read more

I love this place - everyone is so nice. I get the ground coffee for my French press at home. It's a real neighborhood gem. But - if you sell coffee, why do you not open until 9:30? I am not sure the owner is aware that their staff is opening WAY later than the advertised opening time of 9am (which is even kind of late for a place that sells coffee). I stopped outside at 9:05 am and an employee popped out to tell me that it would be a while before they opened... so I am now walking away without buying coffee or my beans ! read more

I live in the neighborhood and really have no idea why I keep trying to give this business my money. On multiple occasions, I've attempted to come in during normal business hours for an espresso drink and have been turned away because the machine is "not on." This has happened in the morning, in the afternoon, at all times really so it would appear the establishment isn't actually looking for customers. I've also been told they're out of ice and other silliness seemingly to avoid actually making drinks. Today at 3:15 (they close at 4:30,) I was told they could not make an iced chai because they've already turned the machine off and they need it to "steam the milk." For an iced chai. That you pour cold milk over ice for. (Confirmed this with the chain place down the street that I'll keep going to instead.) read more

I've been a daily customer for 30+ years. I get my beans for home as well as a daily visit or two! Friends from out of town always enjoy the charming shop when they visit and appreciate when I send them gifts of their coffees and teas. Also have a nice selection of cookies and pastries! read more

The Sensuous Bean is a shop near work that is perfect for exotic coffees and teas. I loved getting my chai fix from them daily. Their chai is one of the best I've had made at a shop. It is full of flavor and though it is sweet, it isn't too sweet. They have soy and oat milk for your plant based needs, which is also a plus. Some things to note... they do have a $10 credit card minimum which can be a bit annoying at a coffee shop when the most you would spend is $6-$7. Also they would sometimes sell out of chai and it would take 5 days for them to re-up. As someone who loved their chai so much, this was the worst for me. Lastly, if you're a chai lover great, but you should know it's not vegan. Their chai is made with milk. That wasn't a turn off for me, but I'm sure it matters to some. This is a great spot near Central Park to get your coffee/ tea fix read more

The Sensuous Bean is my new favorite coffee place. It's a combination of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory and TED Talk. You get the deep knowledge of coffee bean connoisseurs who obviously love their jobs along with the insane variety that comes from their densely packed store. The choice of coffees is staggering. Take one look at their menu replete with flavors and you'll get dizzy. That's even before you start monkeying around with blends... I had no idea what I wanted, but after talking with the guys, they properly gauged my tastes and pointed me toward the Italian-Venezuelan blend. Luckily, they already had some brewed for me to try and its robust flavor was exactly what I needed. I only got one bag, but I know for a fact I'll be coming back to this lovely place to sample some of their other incredible beans. read more

The Sensuous Bean is such a delightful little shop! It's a very small interior, even more so due to COVID and the need for distancing. The service is welcoming and friendly, and while waiting for my drink, I was able to glance around at their barrels of beautiful beans and tea. There are cookies here too for folks who want to nosh with their drink. I opted for the iced lavender latte, which ran for $6.75. The dried lavender on top was a lovely touch. I almost wish the lavender flavor was a little more bold, but overall, it hit the spot as a light and refreshing drink for a hot day in the city. There was a $10 credit card minimum, but it was convenient to pay via Venmo - they have a QR code right in front of the counter. read more

Quite possibly the best place in the city to pick up fresh coffee beans or get a selection of beans ground to your preference. The selection is absolutely mind-boggling and choosing any single one among the many is not a simple task. The smell is almost overwhelmingly comforting to anyone who is a coffee lover. I recently picked up a few bags of coffee and came back to bring a friend to get him some high quality grounds for his new chemex. I'm Cuban, we tend to drink mostly espresso, but I love to try and taste new flavors and all sorts of old blends. This place is basically like Disneyland for someone like me who loves extreme variety. What's more...they have a wonderful selection of fresh and organic teas from all over the world. So if coffee isn't necessarily your thing, but tea is? This is still the right place to come and check out. If you find yourself in the upper west side, stop in and grab yourself a bag. You will thank me for it. read more

Found this hidden gem on the way to bringing the dog to puppy play group. The Sensuous Bean - a hand holding a cup of iced coffee - Coffee & Tea Near Me - New York, New York

When you pass by this little coffee shop, you'll typically notice a few people sitting outside. You'll pick up on the scent of hazelnut coffee that fills the street. This is one of the oldest coffee shops in the city (I believe the oldest on UWS?), and walking in you will discover an array of teas, crumpets, and coffees to try. The staff is sweet, the shop is extremely small and quaint, and the coffees good. Highly recommend. read more

I feel like this place is the little coffee secret of everyone who lives around here, and while I'm not jealous per se (I do have my Empire after all - http://www.yelp.com/biz/pottIrE6qxmRRBoVwkXWHw), I know that when my husband and I (you know, the billionaire who looks like a cross between Brad Pitt and Jude Law) buy our brownstone on 74th between Columbus & Central Park West, we'll come here to get the best French Roast for our Bodum French Press. That's for when we sip coffee on Sunday morning at the marbletop breakfast bar in our glorious kitchen while doing the crossword as the sun streams in through the bay windows...woah...sorry about that, got carried away. I love little neighborhood coffee places like this - good selection of roasts and loose teas and a friendly, chatty staff. They always have four roasts available for the on-the-go pick-me-up, not to mention a nice little selection of chocolates at the register. Minus a star for being a little bit cramped and a little bit frenzied, but that's what gives places local New York charm. I'm a fan. read more

The Sensuous Bean - Baby friendly - Coffee & Tea Near Me - New York, New York

So tiny! Just a little shop selling coffee beans, who additionally have about 5 carafes of pre-brewed coffee (1 decaf, 4 not). I wandered in for a cup of coffee this morning after browsing reviews. It's self serve and a good cup of coffee for $1.75. No seating at all, just a place to purchase your own beans or to take out a cup to go. Note: they only accept credit card for purchases over $7. read more

Best Soy Chai in the Upper West Side. I think there was only one time where it wasn't yummy but one time out of the 30 times I've been here isn't too bad at all. Iced or hot, it's amazing. My husband is a fan of Starbucks Coffee and sometimes tries to get me to get their Soy Chai instead of strolling over to The Sensuous Bean but I always refuse it. The Soy Chai at The Sensuous Bean shits on the one at Starbucks in my opinion. The staff is always very friendly and mellow which is my kind of crowd. Even the customers are friendly. Sometimes there's a little bit of a wait but I'm cool with that because the Soy Chai is well worth it. Plus it smells so delicious inside. read more

Love this place! Small local spot that smells amazing as soon as you get close. The people are so nice. But of course it's all about the coffee right? Well my husband is a coffee pro and this place is top notch in his eyes. He gets there more serious blends. Meanwhile, I, someone who could never drink anything other than a latte, now finally love black coffee - no milk! - thanks to Sensuous Bean's flavored beans. The smells and tastes are incredible. My personal favorite is Hazelnut. Apple crumb is fun too. You can get any of the beans by weight, and in addition, every day, there are a few different flavors of hot and iced coffees brewed on tap. Super reasonable prices. They also do lattes and have cute merch and little cookies. So happy to live down the block from this neighborhood gem! read more

I lived 4 blocks away from Sensuous Bean for 4 years and got coffee here any morning I felt like I needed a pick me up. The service is always friendly and the coffee selection is unbeatable. This is so good!!! I tried the chocolate pecan coffee, just black. Full of flavor, not overly sweet. All the flavor from the bean, not a syrup, and so fresh! I'm gonna need to make some trips to the Uws for some beans to bring back to Brooklyn! Hooray for mom and pop shops! read more

This place feels like a truly hidden gem on the UWS amidst the multitude of chain coffee shops. Upon opening the door the rich coffee smell engulfs you and at least for me drew me inside. It is tiny - everywhere you look are barrels are coffee beans. I had wanted to try one of their roasts there instead of at home and discovered you can get a self serve cup of drip coffee - they brew 3-4 varieties each day. I had the hazelnut which was lovely, rich coffee notes with a sweet hazelnut flavor and an overall buttery quality. I also tried the amaretto which was surprisingly very almondy. I didn't get beans that day but plan to come back and buy some. I really like that you can smell each of the options and how knowledgable the staff is. Only downside is that it is very, very small and there's sadly no room, except two small stools, to enjoy the coffee inside, so it's really only a to go option. read more

Mmmmmm morning coffee. Their mainstay is selling whole beans, but they brew up three blends every morning. They make small pots so your coffee is always fresh and delicious. There is never a line. I'm in and out in under two minutes most days. There is no seating so no one is hanging out and writing their novel. It's small and can only hold a few customers at a time. There are only minimal amount of sweet snacks, that in truth, aren't that good. Sensuous Bean is just there to sell coffee and it does a perfect job at that. read more

This tiny shop on the upper west side can make a proper espresso or latte, serves coffee, lets you indulge in some tasty cookies, or buy any one of a zillion flavors of tea or coffee in bulk. Sitting here to hang out is not the idea though. While there are three stools and a tiny bench, you are in the way of the next customer to drop by. So, get your coffee and go!
