First-Hand Experience: It's pretty amazing that they play at Hampden. I feel bad that they can't even fill up a tiny portion of it, but it's still so cool that the palace of Scottish football is their home. I've seen them play away from home twice, and they were a really fun team to watch with some great travelling support. Loud and intense. Plus they beat the team I was cheering for (with the home crowd) both times I've seen them. Late 90s, and 2011. Not to be confused with the Rangers of London, this is one of the oldest teams in the world. Formed in 1867, they play in a stadium with 52k capacity even though hardly anyone shows up to watch them. They've always played there, in fact this club helped to build HP. They play in horrible black and white hoops and are known as The Spiders (from mars?). (Ziggy?). They were pioneers of today's passing game, apparently. Amazingly, this old club won the Scottish Cup in 1874, 1875, 1876, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1884, 1886, 1890, 1893, which is 10 times in total, but never in the 20th or 21st centuries. They also managed to win the English FA Cup in 1884 and 1885 which really shows you how strong they once were. For this reason, the club scores 4.

As a supporter of this club, I am obviously biased but Queen's have given me some of the best times…read moreof my life - and I don't think I could have shared in those had I still been a fan of a bigger club in Glasgow. I started watching the Spiders in 2000 and since then we've been relegated twice, promoted once and had four managers. Players good and bad have been and gone. The best don't stay very long because of our amateur status. The loyal are adopted as cult heroes. There have been ups and downs. In 2002, we were at our lowest point, finishing bottom of the Third Division but in 2006, we defeated Aberdeen and were promoted the following year playing the best football I've seen from any team. Queen's are a club to get easily involved with too. If you want to lend a hand helping in any way, you won't be denied - regardless of your age or otherwise. There is a great community spirit and a bond between supporters and if you are a regular, you will enjoy the good feeling with the fans regardless of the team's performances. It is corny to describe Queen's are a family club they do everything they can to promote youth teams so young talent is nurtured into the first XI. There is a supporters bus to every away game and that is where the fans have the most fun with fierce backing of the team from first whistle to last. Home games are a bit surreal at Hampden, it has to be said, but it is a stadium to be proud of and the facilities are excellent. Queen's are the finest team in Glasgow, as the fans sing. Supporting Celtic and Rangers is unoriginal, dull and predictable and Partick Thistle? The less said the better!

As it goes from Busby to Clarkston, Netherlee, Linn Park, Cathcart, Langside, Pollokshaws, Pollok Country House Park, Crookston and finally joins the River Levern. Along the river, there's a nice, quiet and muddy pathway which goes from the more residential area of Langisde to the bustle of Shawlands. This makes for a lovely Sunday stroll, followed by a pub lunch in The Granary (see previous review). The Cart has lots of kernels of history attached to it, for instance it is mentioned in Robert Burns' poem The Gallant Weaver. However, not all the history surrounding the Cart is pleasant. As, Cathcart and other residential areas which sprang up around the Cart have had some flood damage at times. Which is why, there is now a major Glasgow City Council operation to build up flood defences along the length of the river.

One of a notable chain of gyms opened here on thursday the 22nd of october and i was the first…read morecustomer at the doors! As we all know pure gyms can vary from place to place. Some of them are fantastic with ample areas and plenty of time to do your workout without feeling as if you hogging a machine or that you need to hurry. Others not so much with not enough machines for demand and overworked staff trying to keep everyone happy. Thankfully this one falls into the former. As i said its just new opened and it is huge! Its opened on the site of what, at one time, used to be the old kwik save at the back of the shawlands arcade and it is absolutely huge. As you walk in its a very open space with plenty of room around the machines. Id estimate about 15 treadmills, 10 bikes and a variety of cross trainers steppers and the like greet you as you walk in the door. Next to this is a studio type area for classes but that you can use if you need to when its free as well. In the corner you have a cycle studio for spin classes and such which has about another 20 bikes. Next to this is the open area with the weight machines. All the usual suspects are here such as the leg press, ab crunch, bicep and tricep pulls and for the most part they are in duplicate which will help with the demand as well. A couple of interesting machines which i rarely see are the ski machine which, as you may have guessed, simulates the movements needed in skiing and they also have access to a vibroplate in the corner as well. They also have access to two steppers which rather than the up and down contrivences have actual steps moving down and folding in at the bottom and re-emerging at the top. At the back we have a very well stocked weights area with some assisted lift machines where you can change the angle of plates and such to tailor your workout to certain parts of your body. As for the facilities you have a free water fountain as you would expect, 3 or 4 machines selling a variety of padlocks, towels, protein bars, shakes and water and down the other side we have changing rooms and showers which are all secured with the keypads which is grat for the security of your stuff. Also notably they have women's only section of the gym, unfortunately i cant comment on what is contained therein but its a nice wee addition. All in all a big gym, well built with plenty of variety and availability. I cant wait to go back now that im a member!

Drop off your keys as deposit for a locker key then crack on with your routine. Big plus for me is the daily rate charge. No contract and no hassle and great value if you're only attending a gym once a week like me. There are contract options available as well as up front options that offer good value for heavier users. Varied community of customers from those doing their own workout, to folk working through a tough routine with a personal trainer, to the folk on the weights. Staff friendly and helpful with any questions. It's a great local facility conveniently placed in Shawlands. Nice to have a bit of a view over Kilmarnock road too. Some members would hog equipment and tell you that they where doing a circuit with 3 items of equipment. The changing rooms had a really bad smell as they had not been cleaned in some time with the toilets being a disgrace where l had to bring in scented toilet blocks to mask the stench. Some staff could be rude towards members, there was never politeness or any personal touch. When my membership ended l went elsewhere l would never recommend this gym. If there was a minus rating here i would kindly give them a minus 1 star.

Bikram Yoga Southside

My review is solely based on the studio, not the instructor…read more I signed up last week and only went for two classes. I've been taking bikram classes for nearly 6 years and this is the first studio that I've been to that has smelled so terrible. It hits you as soon as you walk in. I know it's difficult to keep a hot yoga studio always pleasant, but it most certainly can and has been done. And it's a real pity because the studio itself is done up very nicely. But Jesus, let the air circulate after class, spray some tea tree oil, anything. My second criticism is this: the class is not instructed to face the left side of the room for the second part of the standing series, resulting in many hands in faces and other peoples sweaty feet on your mat. I've never seen this not done before and I don't understand it. The two classes I attended were packed, so on top of the smell I was also very distracted by having to negotiate my tiny space. My third criticism: This is a big pet peeve when studios advertise themselves as something: please do not call yourselves a bikram studio when you only have *maybe* two actual 90 min classes a day. I signed up for a very specific studio and expect it to cater to that one speciality. By all means, have other classes but then change your studio name. It's false advertising. I'm very disappointed, because I really enjoyed the teaching style of the instructor (Ilaria ) but I simply cannot deal with the Smell, the overlapping space and the lack of a proper, full Bikram schedule. Hopefully at least the smell can be remedied.

The studio was cramped as there was a lot of people which involved a lot of manoeuvring whilst trying to remain involved in the practice which was off putting. Also felt like just another number, instructors showed no interest in newbies and the vibe despite the heat was very frosty. In the end, although great value felt like it was not the studio for me.
