On my first day switching gyms I was wandering around aimlessly trying to find the ladies changing area (while trying to look like I totally knew what I was doing). I was approached by a lovely guy who asked if I needed help and showed me to the changing area. So what I love about Pure Gym is that it's open 24 hours (not that I go at night or the morning..), it's just a gym - no pool, spa, cafe etc., loads of great classes and it's a huge space with plenty of equipment. The one thing I don't like? During busier times getting in an out can be tricky. There's 2 pods that can be used for entry and exit. Occasionally there are times were people are using both pods to come in and people can't get out! It sort of depends on the kindness of others to let others through. I think Pure Gym is great and I always recommend it to others looking for a gym!

However, if you too are a gym newbie, this is the review for you! Pure Gym is only the second gym chain I've ever been to. I previously had a membership with another chain that shall remain nameless, and was left with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth about what "non-contract" gyms could offer. Was I better spending a lot of money for a fancy gym with all the bells and whistles? No. Pure Gym fits all my need as a new gym goer! Signing up online was super quick and easy. On my first visit to the gym I found everything to be really well signposted and there was lots of clearly visible staff around. This gym is over three levels, but there are lifts for disabled customers. It's broken down as such - first level is what I like to call the hardcore weights section. In my old gym I found it quite frustrating as weights machines could be hogged by other users, however this layout separates the men from the boys, so to speak, and if you're serious about your weights, everything you need is here! If you are less serious about your weights, like I am, on the top level you will find all the cardio machines and some milder weight training equipment! No need to share! :) Sandwiched in between is the level with the changing rooms, the circuits area, and the "classroom". There is also a cycle studio down on the bottom floor. Now the classes. My main pet peeve with the other gym was the classes never seem to run, Sometimes groups of people would be collecting around the mats and now instructor would show. Not the case at Pure Gym. You can book yourself into classes using the website or the mobile app. Do not sleep on these classes, they book up so quickly, and Pure Gym know it! If you don't turn up to classes, you will get a week long ban from the gym for bad behavior! So far I've attended Spin and Circuits classes and I love them! 3 months ago I'd have balked at the idea of me saying I loved a Spin class, but I do now! You can also buy water, protein drinks, padlocks and towels from the vending machines on the ground floor. The vending machines take cash and card, and are enabled for contactless - cool! :) The only think I've found a bit annoying is the changing room is a bit small, but they have adequate space for toilets and showers, so that's good. Overall I would recommend this gym, especially now as the price is slightly lower for a limited time! :)

I like that they are almost all the same set up, so when you visit one it feels familiar. This particular gym is actually located within the shopping centre, located at the top entrance. The front of the gym has large windows, making the gym bright and airy however, I'm not sure I would feel comfortable exercising with shoppers walking by. Not everyone shared my concern as there were plenty of others doing just that. For me this wasn't a problem as there is also a large and well equipped area upstairs, not visible to passer bys. I use my phone app to help keep me right with the machines but there are staff around who will offer support.

Which is slightly disappointing if you're trying something out for the first time, and like me, you don't really know how to do all the moves. But I guess you just need to persevere. All in all, decent facilities. Showers are lovely and hot but no thermostat for these, so one temperature fits all. Nice space, but not so nice IMO since their rebranding and painting various walls black. But it's cheap and cheery. You want frills, then the cost reflects that. Happy gymming.

One of a notable chain of gyms opened here on thursday the 22nd of october and i was the first…read morecustomer at the doors! As we all know pure gyms can vary from place to place. Some of them are fantastic with ample areas and plenty of time to do your workout without feeling as if you hogging a machine or that you need to hurry. Others not so much with not enough machines for demand and overworked staff trying to keep everyone happy. Thankfully this one falls into the former. As i said its just new opened and it is huge! Its opened on the site of what, at one time, used to be the old kwik save at the back of the shawlands arcade and it is absolutely huge. As you walk in its a very open space with plenty of room around the machines. Id estimate about 15 treadmills, 10 bikes and a variety of cross trainers steppers and the like greet you as you walk in the door. Next to this is a studio type area for classes but that you can use if you need to when its free as well. In the corner you have a cycle studio for spin classes and such which has about another 20 bikes. Next to this is the open area with the weight machines. All the usual suspects are here such as the leg press, ab crunch, bicep and tricep pulls and for the most part they are in duplicate which will help with the demand as well. A couple of interesting machines which i rarely see are the ski machine which, as you may have guessed, simulates the movements needed in skiing and they also have access to a vibroplate in the corner as well. They also have access to two steppers which rather than the up and down contrivences have actual steps moving down and folding in at the bottom and re-emerging at the top. At the back we have a very well stocked weights area with some assisted lift machines where you can change the angle of plates and such to tailor your workout to certain parts of your body. As for the facilities you have a free water fountain as you would expect, 3 or 4 machines selling a variety of padlocks, towels, protein bars, shakes and water and down the other side we have changing rooms and showers which are all secured with the keypads which is grat for the security of your stuff. Also notably they have women's only section of the gym, unfortunately i cant comment on what is contained therein but its a nice wee addition. All in all a big gym, well built with plenty of variety and availability. I cant wait to go back now that im a member!

The leisure centre has fantastic facilities, with gym, kids classes, creche, beauty salon, brasserie, sauna, steam room, pool, and tennis courts (trademark of Esporta). I especially like the pool at Esporta because when it hits around 6 o'clock they turn the night lighting on in the pool which is ever so relaxing and calming to float round. The personal trainers/staff are always very helpful when you are interested in an exercise for this part of your back or something to do when your shins are sore, etc. I have always had sound advise from the staff at Esporta, they are great. Even the reception staff and the cleaners are always so friendly and remember your previous conversations which is nice.

The car park is large and easily accessible, and I've never had any trouble getting a space. This is great, because going to the gym is stressful enough without fighting in the carpark! As well as the sports facilities, Esporta Milngavie boasts a beauty salon, a sports equipment shop and a restaurant. The food is good, hot and filling - if not gourmet. There's also a cafe with a Costa coffee concession. I haven't been that impressed with the quality of the service in the cafe, if I'm completely honest, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with their coffee! Esporta Milngavie also has conference, meeting and function rooms for hire. (Most of which come complete with bar!) It is in this capacity that Esporta Milngavie plays host to Milngavie's 4Networking group every other week.

I used to be really self conscious when I was younger and went to the gym, I really didn't like carrying all that 'festive weights' and trying to get rid of it in front of people would clearly didn't need to. Now I don't care at all but Fitness First for women would have been great for me back then. The gym itself is so accessible being on Sauchiehall st so whether you are shopping, at uni or work, it is easy to get to, and even maybe for a pre-going out gym boost. I went to this gym on a free day trial, which you can get from the website. I liked my experience because no matter what, its nice to have a minute or two when you don't have to bother about your appearance. I didn't get a membership here because I would rather go to the gym with my boyfriend than by myself, and the membership fees are pretty steep for the facilities you get. But most in the city centre are, you are paying to save your time and be away from those terrible boys. :)

As soon as i entered i was by two smiley lovely girls who were chatty, i then asked were the changing rooms were as i hadn't been before and they were more than happy to give me a quick tour! The gym itself is a nice size not too big or intimidating, there is plenty of the usual equipment treadmills, cross trainers etc. There was also the usual weight machines but these were a bit dated and the resistance felt a bit weird to the more modern ones im used to, but nevertheless they did the job! I liked the fact the had punch bags and mitts etc meant i could take my frustration out!!! One more machine the had was the 'power plate' i had never been on one of these but had heard quite alot about them- like they give you a full body work out in 10 minutes. I saw a few women using it then fort i would have a go myself! There was a chart on the wall showing all the varying positions and techniques to make the most of the machine. I chose the positions and intensity then pressed start.... I have never experienced anything like it in my life i hated it!! the intensity was soo high i could feel my muscles rippling my eyesight was going funny n everything! I was supposed to hold it for 60 seconds but couldnt handle it haha! I take my hat off too anyone who can use it more than 1 minute!! :P

I attended one of Stella's classes last night and I'm not going to lie it was tough. It was a group training session which seams to make training that little bit easier. We did a mixture of circuits which included Box jumps, kettle bells, time trials of different exercises. I used to love just running on the treadmill for ages but this way of training is just out of this world! The Gym it's self is fab! Bright, spacious and very clean. There is also facilities to shower, change and do your makeup! Stella the owner is always on hand to give advice if needed!

Bikram sessions consist of a sequence of set yoga poses and last 90 minutes, in a studio heated at about 40 degrees C° (please don't rely on me for precise measures :-)) I love going there anytime I need to be energised and revitalised. I get truly relaxed after a session, and at the same time full of energy. I should go more often than I do, but I find it hard to keep a routine. After taking their £20 for 20 session offer though, I could really see a difference. Spaced one-off sessions work as well! Make sure that you drink a lot before going and avoid eating for 3 hours prior (also avoid drinking the day before, or over-eating...unless you don't mind getting a bit sick). I've done both early morning and evening sessions. The advantage of the early morning (8.15 in particular) is that you have plenty of space because there is way fewer people attending. The advantage of the evening is that you don't need to go without having had breakfast :-) Staff if really nice too. Don't forget to bring a mat, towel and bottle of water, although you can rent them out as well. Enjoy!

In a world where judgement is a constant, it's nice to walk in the Bikram Yoga West End doors and know that not a single person is there to judge you, rather, are there to focus on taking care of themselves. It's a wonderful thing. Unassuming, down an alley off Byres road, this place is a gem. I have been practicing here for roughly 3 months (with a few weeks here and there taken off due to visitors to Glasgow and other things happening), but I'm back and I'm well and truly on my way back to the level of fitness I was prior to taking a break. I never practiced with Stephen and the gang before they opened this Byres Road location, but they have loads of regulars who have been with them from the beginning. I've practiced Bikram yoga in the states, so I get the idea of it, but for those of you who have never been, or who are new to start, it's basically a series of 26 postures done one right after each other in a hot and humid room. It's 90 minutes of a cardiovascular (no, not running about) yoga workout, all while centering yourself and clearing your head preparing you for your day/night. It really is the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I really start feeling the benefits after day 1. Don't be scared to come in and say hello (make sure to take your shoes off at the top of the stairs), the staff and all the teachers are warm and welcoming, as a Yoga studio should be. They have crackin' deals if you're a student, and if you're a student or non-student, it's totally worth trying out Bikram Yoga West End as they do a 30 days for £30 deal, with a huge discount on top of the membership prices if you join before the 30 days is over. Aside from all that loveliness, they have towel and mat rental, and locks for lockers to borrow on the day. They have bottles of plain water and coconut water for sale, and various other snacks and clothing to buy. What's best is there is a rest and relaxation area where you can gather your thoughts before and/or after class, have a cup of (free) tea (they usually have 2 flavours going at any moment) and chat with the friends you'll make. There are also changing areas and showers for those of you on the move and needing to be cleaned up after sweating like crazy! I'm almost certain I've practiced with every teacher here so far, and can assure you that each and every one of them are amazing and teach a little different than the next. All with the same script and postures, but some will correct you if you're not in the proper posture, and some will just let you on your way and figure it out with your class mates. Personally, I enjoy Sherands classes the best, but maybe that's just because we're both American. Hehe, I kid, but she's really great and is one of the teachers who help you correct your postures to get the maximum benefit from your practice. All in all, this place is great. Do yourself a favour and check it out. You'll thank yourself for it!!
