Distinctly average but cheap and cheerful.
I was a member of pure gym on Bath Street but moved to the Shawlands one when it opened and I have to say, compared to Bath Street, I'm not all that impressed.
It feels more open than Bath Street but I feel like the layout should have been planned out better. The first few times I was in, I couldn't actually find the changing rooms as they're not sign posted and all staff were busy training people. Thankfully, there are lockers at the vending machines, but if I'd actually needed to change then this would have been awkward.
Weights wise, there is an ok selection, although the weights machines are at the opposite end of the gym from the free weights, so it's really awkward if you want to mix it up between things. I find myself doing one or the other, which isn't ideal.
Kettlebells - fairly limited weights available, but generally speaking, it's fairly easy to find two of the same weight!
Class-wise, I highly recommend Lee's spin classes! They're fun, he's got good chat and they flow really well. They book up super quick though, so get in fast. I like the abs classes too for a quick abs blast.
The women only area - avoid. There's not much in there and it's generally rammed with people.
All in, you get what you pay for, and at £10.99 a month, I'm pretty happy. read more
