Locals were strolling in for sandwiches and salads. Highly recommend going with the delicious Portuguese styled bread either on the side or sandwiches. Below are some of the Smartwich team which includes also includes a nephew and and uncle / founder.. This is a family business with the founder is a brother of one of the top local Italian bakeries in Nassau. The bakery also provided the start up space originally in Hicksville during the incubator phase. It makes perfect sense when you have a delicious warm crispy Portuguese roll for the sandwiches. This talented brother had many years in the food industry in Portugal and is a fan of their crispy styled bread/rolls. They are now made right here. Sandwiches are nicely made, fresh, flavorful and a step above the generic sandwich places. Elevated flavors and dressed with a nice vinaigrette. Lots of choices. We started with the popular and will venture out to the more creative. Sardines and octopus looked good but can wait until another day.

The inside is very millennial style with the grey and black ambiance. It's pretty open spatially and there's a menu on the wall. They make their own brewed iced tea. Their sandwiches are pretty clear in description. I dislike that the chicken sandwich pastrami sauce has pork in it, so anyone who avoids pig products like the plague needs to inform them when making the order. The sandwich itself was pretty good. The bread didn't cause my lips to flare up like other yeasts do. They didn't go heavy on the balsamic vinaigrette. The workers came out to greet me and give me a tour even though it's pretty self explanatory. After the drinks refrigerator and sandwiches menu, there are three additional menus for sides, fruit/veggie smoothies and protein smoothies. I ordered a chocolate protein smoothie and the cups they have are larger than the portions they serve. They apologized like it was an inconvenience to me, but actually I was happy that I didn't have to worry about any overflow or spillage. I think it's great that it's a tad bigger. I also bought a pan de nata to try. They forgot to add the cinnamon, but it didn't need it. It was done to perfection. Bakers of All Nations in Mineola now has some good competition. On the walls surrounding the smoothie bar and dining area there's a mural that explains the type of cuisine you're getting and about the chef's travels. It's kind of neat. Happy eats!

I note that multiple other people walked into the restaurant and left immediately, apparently due to not being greeted. It was a very small operation, and a smoke detector went off in the kitchen while I was there, which seems like something that should not happen in a dedicated food service space. However, I hung on, figuring that the small and slightly sketchy suburban spot was likely to deliver delicious food, and to be fair to them, they did. Spoiled for choice, I kept it classic and got a choley bhature, a chickpea curry with two fried breads and some accompaniments. The breads came out very nicely; they are fried but weren't drowning in oil like some places. The chickpea curry had strong cinnamon notes, and combined well with onions and a hot pepper. The amount of bread was just about right. They were out of dumplings, so I got a soup, and their manchow soup had abundant freshly diced vegetables. A chai was small but did the job. I could easily have ordered any number of other things, and my conclusion was that this probably is not the place to take someone out for a nice atmospheric dinner, but if you want some satisfying comfort food, you can get it here.

**FANTASTIC PERI PERI CHICKEN** **EFFICIENT & FRIENDLY…read moreSERVICE** PERI-PERI? In the fifteenth century, Portuguese settlers in south Africa cultivated spicy red chili peppers called Peri Peri. Shortly after, widespread use of these flavorful peppers led to the creation of what is known today as South African Peri-Peri Sauce. And this sauce, which combines sweet, garlicky, spicy, salty, and tangy flavors was found - by chefs - to be a fantastic marinade and/or accompaniment when grilling poultry. And because of this - today - we have the famous and delicious South African Peri-peri Chicken. PERI-PERI CHICKEN AVAILABLE IN BETHPAGE ! At Peri-Peri Grill House in Bethpage, it's obvious the founders worked tirelessly to perfect the recipe for each of the seven variations of Peri-Peri Sauce - all with different flavors, and spice levels. And it's also obvious that the results of this labor of love have paid off with some of the tastiest chicken available on Long Island. THAT SPECIAL GRILL All the best sauces and preparation would be useless if the chicken was not properly cooked. And so, It's a pleasure to report, that the special grill they use here, results in juicy, perfectly cooked chicken - tattooed with beautiful grill marks. And this is readily apparent when ordering the half or quarter chicken options, especially if you request the chicken to be well-done THOSE WINGS! As good as the half chicken is, the wings are on a different level of deliciousness, and are probably, the best item on the menu. They're large, meaty, and juicy, while the flavors really pop on these smaller pieces of chicken. All this, along with those wonderful grill marks, leads to some of the tastiest wings I've ever eaten, and let me tell you, I've eaten A LOT of wings! WHAT ELSE If chicken on the bone isn't what you're feeling today, this restaurant offers a grilled chicken sandwich that's deliciously enhanced with your choice of Peri-Peri sauce. And there's also a very respectable fried chicken sandwich served with Peri-Peri mayo, hot sauce, and lettuce. In addition, there's cheese burgers, a tasty falafel burger, wraps, salads, and chicken tenders rounding out the menu. And one cannot live on main dishes alone, Luckily, the sides here help complete the meal in a tasty fashion. The Peri-Peri fries are crispy, corn on the cob sweet and buttery, coleslaw creamy and fresh and the Peri-Peri rice nicely spiced. SOMETHING DIFFERENT If your similar to me, and feel a bit fatigued by the played-out chicken offerings at KFC and Popeyes, Peri-Peri Grill House is a fantastic flavorful alternative. And for some fun, you can figuratively roll-the-dice, and try different sauces each time you visit - until you settle on your favorites. Mine by the way, are Extra Hot, Hot, Jerk BBQ, and lemon & Herb. SOME PARTING THOUGHTS : The Extra Hot Peri-Peri sauce here, is not that spicy, so don't be afraid to order it - unless you're a spice wimp baby. The people behind the counter are really friendly, helpful, and nice. And although every order is prepared fresh, the kitchen is efficient, so food comes out relatively quickly. By all means, definitely try to give this restaurant a visit when you're in the area, if you haven't already. It's a great go-to when you can't decide what to eat. And I enjoy it for that reason, and many of the other reasons listed above. And because of this, without a doubt, I would place a bet on Kalshi that you will enjoy it too.
