We made an afternoon of it in Waco and this Goodwill store popped up on our radar while we were…read morenavigating the way to a late lunch. This place was big and I hadn't been to a Goodwill in years. I was looking specifically for a mini-microwave proof carafe or pitcher to make microwave coffee in. They've come a long way since Nescafe. Even Starbucks has a product for home use sold at Costco that's 100% Arabica. Yum! Much of the front half of the store was clothing and shoes for the entire family. A second section held everything for the home and you just had to wade through it. The store was clean and everything was labeled. Not everything appeared to be functional which was worrisome. There was a fair amount of new product, though, in the original packaging all over the store. I got lucky. Amongst the old Mr. Coffee carafes and hotel/motel mini pots, I spotted something I'd never seen - a 4 cup glass EVENFLO infant formula measuring pitcher. I had to Google it. Circa 1950's, the infant formula EVENFLO glass pitcher was a promotional giveaway for expectant moms and is attributed to the Pyrex company, although not marked as such! I paid $5.99 and I saw online prices starting at three times that and up to $60 for one like mine in perfect condition. It is terrific for microwaving a liquid. I love using vintage kitchen tools and dishes and this one is as old as I am!! We'll age together. It was a good shopping experience. The staff was friendly and checkout was not too much of a wait. I would go back. The facility is relatively new and well cared for.

Located across from the famous Magnolia restaurant, it's easy to get to on the free shuttle service, with a stop right outside of the shelter. I walked in and the employee at the front desk let me know where all the dogs were and if I had any questions to ask her. First thing's first - I was shocked by how many dogs were here. There were multiple rooms with dogs, ranging from puppies to seniors. Many of the dogs were just happy to see someone visit the area. In the center of the dog area is an outside space for the dogs, and during the time I was visiting, they were cleaning the floors. After I looked around I asked the employee at the front desk area about the adoption process, as I was curious to learn more about how this humane society differs from the one at home where I volunteer. She told me about the application process, which was very simple, straightforward and is processed quickly. And the fee to adopt a dog was only $50! I was shocked by the low adoption fee. If I lived in Texas I have no doubt I would've ended this visit with adopting a dog. I encourage all the locals to adopt a furbaby from here! There were a lot of dogs, waiting for homes and the adoption process is very easy.

As soon as we met him, we fell in LOVE. While I was filing out an application, his foster mom came and discussed his case with me to make sure we knew how best to care for him. That meant so much to me. The humane society was beautiful, clean, and the animals looked very well cared for. They clearly cared about his welfare! They described his temperament online, they discussed his care with me, sent me home with his medical records, and updated his microchip info in my name before we even left to take him home. We would definitely adopt from here again. :)
