First and for most it's worth the trip down to the shop just to meet and talk with Armando.

It's always good to come in every few weeks and take a spin through the bins. I have purchased so many things for my collection here, I've lost count. They have a Tuesday night used vinyl special too. Big selection of classic rock. But if you're into metal (yes), jazz (yes) or even Hip hop and punk (yes yes) they have alot for your perusal too. If they don't have it and they can get it, they'll order it for you. That is just one example of the great service you get here from all the guys. And the prices are good--better than many other shops I've been to. Official Record Store Day location every year also.

Both employees got mad at me for trying to use my cards, owner refused to reply. No respect for regular customers.

Since then, Docs has been or first choice for vinyl purchases of all levels. We are not collectors, really. I'm fine with a $7 Led Zeppelin disc with some magic marker on it as long as the vinyl plays well. We try to keep it $15 or under per record, though we've broken this rule a few times. At that level, there are always fun finds here at Docs. The selection is large in all genres. We found all three Stealer's Wheel records in a single trip. My rare 70s rock like Be-Bop Deluxe, Crack The sky, and Sweet comes through regularly at reasonable prices. And don't forget to check the new arrivals bin. Highly recommended!

There is so much to browse, go through, and check out as you walk around. Organization of their inventory and labeling is top notch for a record vinyl shopper myself. I appreciate the clear and beautifully written (easy to read too!) labels for every single artist in their respective genre sections. There is no guessing whether they have the artist you want or not. You can even see, across the aisle from you, what artists are on the opposite aisle from you at just a glance. Doc's labels their record tabs front AND back! Oh what a dream for me who usually has a list of records I am looking for. Each vintage vendor and nook is worth taking your time in exploring. We saw such a wide variety and range of vintage clothing, memorabilia, shoes, artwork, purses, glassware, and knick knacks. I also saw several sale items that were worth a look through if you don't get enticed to just take it home. I found some cool vintage purses and 90's band shirts I had to have. Even though I was here for the records and bought well over a half a dozen of a mix of single and albums on vinyl I was super pleased with the variety of vintage and new/artisan stuff they had for sale here. The decor and even the Doc's merch are pretty unique and worth taking pictures of for remembering you came to such a unique and fun place. I love the mural and logo outside before you walk in this modern giant warehouse. Parking was super easy and overflow free parking across the street is just steps away from the front door. Don't hassle with trying to find parking in front.

According to staff, Breakaway Records opened in 2008, moved to its current North Loop location in 2010, and later expanded the space. The store is clean, well-organized, and with items strategically arranged with excellent signage. There was no piled-on dust that you tend to see in music stores housing old vinyl records. Breakaway's true highlight was the breadth and depth of its music items and accessories. The shop had an extensive collection of used vinyl and 45s, spanning genres as well as ages that primarily focused on soul, jazz, funk, hip hop, international sounds, punk, and rock. Flipping through their vinyl records was easy and enjoyable with some surprise finds. Listening stations let you preview records before you buy. The staff were knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about music. They'll either give you space to browse or gladly answer questions, depending on what you prefer. Breakaway also sells 45, CDs (small section) and record players. The store carries stereo gear and accessories at a range of prices including turntables, receivers, speakers, and small essentials. They did not have any small music tapes or 8-track tapes...probably my nieces and nephews have never heard of these. Smile. Great discovery...great visit...

I got a copy of Slum Village's Fan-Tas-Tic, Vol. 2 here a while back and I hadn't seen that around. It's always a joy to come here and dig around. RIYL: A little more unique records than your typical spot in Austin
