Prices are fair. People have to make a living you know. The family that own it are just great people and with such kind hearts. I wish them well and just have positive thoughts for them. The music I have bought over the years from them has brought my family such joy. I grew up in record shops and music stores and I love bringing my family here. What a treasure this place is for Waco. If you are looking for deals on classic products of everything the offer this is a great spot. You can boost your library for a few bucks. The staff was friendly and working. It's pretty self explanatory how to browse and find things. I found this place great and even though it's a chain it has the feel and inventory of a local shop.

I've spent hundreds of dollars here but have never once been able to use my cards. 1) Card can't be used the same day you spend $100, have to come back 2) If you comeback and have an older card, they won't accept, 3) If you have more than one card you have to come back to use them individually, 4) Actual discount is only 15% off ONE item (under $100) while every other store gives a set dollar amount off from points earned, so cheap! Both employees got mad at me for trying to use my cards, owner refused to reply. No respect for regular customers.

Since then, Docs has been or first choice for vinyl purchases of all levels. We are not collectors, really. I'm fine with a $7 Led Zeppelin disc with some magic marker on it as long as the vinyl plays well. We try to keep it $15 or under per record, though we've broken this rule a few times. At that level, there are always fun finds here at Docs. The selection is large in all genres. We found all three Stealer's Wheel records in a single trip. My rare 70s rock like Be-Bop Deluxe, Crack The sky, and Sweet comes through regularly at reasonable prices. And don't forget to check the new arrivals bin. Highly recommended!

Their opinions and thoughts on music are bar-none some of the best. You can find just about anything you're looking for from vintage vinyl to super vintage vinyl, cassettes, 7" vinyl (aka 45s), and even 8-tracks. Bargain bins where you can grab music for just a buck! I like that you can listen to music before buying it as well. Like, don't try and sit there listening to an entire recording and then leave. Listen for a sample and make your decision. They also offer repair services (turntables, cassette players, etc.). Great local business. Support them.

According to staff, Breakaway Records opened in 2008, moved to its current North Loop location in 2010, and later expanded the space. The store is clean, well-organized, and with items strategically arranged with excellent signage. There was no piled-on dust that you tend to see in music stores housing old vinyl records. Breakaway's true highlight was the breadth and depth of its music items and accessories. The shop had an extensive collection of used vinyl and 45s, spanning genres as well as ages that primarily focused on soul, jazz, funk, hip hop, international sounds, punk, and rock. Flipping through their vinyl records was easy and enjoyable with some surprise finds. Listening stations let you preview records before you buy. The staff were knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about music. They'll either give you space to browse or gladly answer questions, depending on what you prefer. Breakaway also sells 45, CDs (small section) and record players. The store carries stereo gear and accessories at a range of prices including turntables, receivers, speakers, and small essentials. They did not have any small music tapes or 8-track tapes...probably my nieces and nephews have never heard of these. Smile. Great discovery...great visit...

Forever Young is as massive as you've seen (or hey, if you haven't seen photos, it's a huge store!)…read moreFor this reason alone, you're bound to walk out of the store happy, with at least a few records. When you walk in, you'll get that feeling of 'where do I start?' Don't worry, it will be ok. I took my first left, skipped the RSD section (pretty big, FYI) and went to the Xmas section. It too was also big, and where it was after the holiday, I thought maybe I might be able to find some cool titles. I walked away with one record I had been looking for and another I didn't know I was looking for but surely needed. After that, I continued onto a 90s/2000s section that, from what I could tell, was a mix of multiple mainstream genres like rock, pop, hip/hop, r&b, etc. Again, we're talking about a lot of records so I made the strategic choice to only look for items on my want list. I did this for the subsequent sections (a 80s/70s combo and 60s/50s combo) and still spent most of my 2 hours in the store in this manner. It was after going through these sections that I looked to the ground with more attention, where I suspected other genres laid their claim. I ended up finding way too many records to choose from for my partner, and some other sections that again were so big that I wasn't even prepared to dive in and dig. When I was finally ready to checkout, my sister (who was also shopping with me) mentioned she had got a punch card, which gives you some money off as you spend a certain amount on used records. She offered hers up to me for my purchase. I didn't pay much attention to the exact parameters, but I got $40 off which was much appreciated (especially considering pricing, which I will get to at the end.) As I was checking out, I noticed the collector's room and took a look at that before I left the store. While there was some interesting stuff in there, none of it was anything I was really looking for (especially not at the higher range.) Back on pricing, I did have a little bit of a shock when I saw that basically every record I picked up was $30 or $35. That's definitely what I'm used to paying back home for new records but not so much for regular used vinyl. This wasn't completely surprising, as I had bought some stuff from them online before, and was certainly softened by the discounts I got at the register but something to keep in mind before you go. Also, I think the pricing is also a function of the store being a bit of one-stop shop with its size. Finally, there is stuff other than vinyl (in fact, A LOT of CDs, as well as tapes, 8-track, etc.) but I wasn't looking for any of that so I didn't shop it. One of the best selling points and features of Piranha is that for every $20 spent, you get a $1 wooden coin back, so you get a 20:1 ratio of money back on all purchases. It may not mean much, but after stockpiling 15 wooden coins and blowing them on a record, the feeling is unbeaten. The staff is humorous and great. After Record Store Day last year, I pulled up after failing to grab a copy of the Blue Notes Alts n Ins record, and the owner gave me props for grabbing it because he personally thought it was one of the coolest releases in the collection. He asked if I had come there just to buy it or stumbled upon it. I told him I was seeking it out, and I got the nod of approval. Best day of my life. I do not think this record store has much of a purpose to visit if you are deep in Austin, since independent stores in Austin have pretty similar stock, but living in Hutto and for the people in Round Rock and Georgetown, this is a great spot and a place I love to support.
